Chapter 422 Can You Stop Looking at Me So Disgustingly?
Sharon was right; the big deal now was that Sophie was with Randy.
Randy wasn't about to let go, and he sure wasn't giving Daniel a shot at taking Sophie away.
Sophie woke up the next day around noon with a killer headache. She looked around her bedroom, trying to piece together how she got back. All she remembered from last night's dinner was getting wasted, Randy showing up to get her, and then... nothing.
So, it must have been Randy who brought her back.
Rubbing her aching temples, Sophie got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. While washing up, she noticed her lip was busted and leaned in closer to the mirror, totally confused.
What the heck happened? Did she fall because she was too drunk? But aside from her lip, she seemed fine.
Still puzzled, Sophie walked out of the bathroom, ready to call Randy and ask about her lip.
As soon as she turned on her phone, she was hit with dozens of calls and messages. She opened Facebook first and saw that not only her classmates from last night's dinner but a bunch of other classmates had messaged and called, asking where she was.
Feeling even more confused, Sophie opened the class group chat, which had hundreds of messages, and started reading from the beginning. Finally, she got the full story.
Turned out, she got into the wrong car last night. It wasn't Randy who picked her up, it was Daniel!
And from what everyone was saying, Daniel didn't take her back to The Lee Villa right away. He brought her to The Thomas Villa first. Later, Randy had to go there to get her.
Guilt washed over Sophie. She couldn't imagine how Randy felt having to go to The Thomas Villa to pick her up.
What would Randy think? Would he think she still had feelings for Daniel? Then she remembered her busted lip and her face went pale. Could Daniel have done that?
She didn't want to think about it. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she called Randy.
The phone rang twice before he picked up.
"Awake?" Randy's voice was low and unreadable.
She spoke carefully, "Randy, I'm sorry. I drank too much last night and got into the wrong car."
Silence on the other end.
After a few seconds with no response, Sophie forced a laugh, "Randy, nothing happened when you came to get me last night, right?"
"No," Randy replied.
"That's good. Want to grab lunch together?" Sophie asked.
"I've already eaten," Randy said.
Sophie checked the time; it was almost one o'clock. "Never mind then. How about we go to the Thomas family's party tonight?"
"I have to work late. You go ahead," Randy replied.
If Sophie couldn't tell Randy was mad by now, she'd be an idiot. She bit her lip, "Randy, I really was drunk last night."
Randy's tone was calm, "Sophie, even if I were drunk, I wouldn't mistake another woman for you, let alone get into another woman's car."
Sophie looked down, speechless. It was definitely her fault this time.
After a moment of silence, Randy's cold voice came through again, "I have a meeting. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up."
"Okay," Sophie replied.
Listening to the busy tone, Sophie threw her phone on the bed, feeling frustrated. If she had known this would happen, she would've never drunk so much. The more Sophie thought about it, the more pissed off she got, and her annoyance with Daniel just kept growing.
Five years ago, when she was with Daniel, he betrayed her and got together with his lover. Now that she was in a new relationship, Daniel was back to mess with her again. It really ticked her off.
After stewing for a bit, Sophie picked up her phone and called Sharon.
"Sharon, are you going to the Thomas family's welcome-back party for Daniel tonight?" Sophie asked.
"I wasn't planning to. Why?" Sharon replied.
"You probably heard I mistook Daniel for Randy last night because I was drunk. I just explained everything to Randy, and he was super cold. He's definitely mad. I want to go find Daniel tonight and tell him to back off. Can you come with me?" Sophie said.
If she went to see Daniel alone, Randy would probably be even more pissed if he found out.
Sharon was surprised, "Why don't you ask Randy to go with you? Wouldn't that make more sense?"
"Don't even mention it. I just asked him to go to the party with me, and he said he had to work late. It's obviously an excuse." Sophie sounded a bit defeated.
Sharon couldn't help but laugh, "Sophie, if he's making excuses, just go to the Smith Group Building and find him."
Sophie sounded conflicted, "But he probably doesn't want to see me right now."
"Come on, have you been out of the dating game for too long? Not only do women need to be coaxed, but men do too. And this time, it was your fault. You should take the initiative to find him." Sharon said.
Under Sharon's persuasion, Sophie finally decided to go to the Smith Group Building to find Randy first. "Okay, then remember to go to the party tonight. I need to take this chance to set things straight with Daniel."
Sharon sighed, "Alright, I'll go with you."
In the evening, Sharon and Seb went downstairs together and saw that today's car was a seven-seater business car, which surprised her.
"Why the change of car?" Sharon asked.
"You don't have time to get styled and change clothes, so I had the stylist and makeup artist come over. They'll get you ready on the way to the party, and you can change clothes in the car." Seb said.
As he spoke, the driver had already opened the door for them.
As soon as Sharon got in the car, the makeup artist and stylist sat beside and behind her, starting to work methodically. "Ms. Roach, if you're tired, you can close your eyes and rest. We'll wake you when we're done."
After working all day, Sharon was indeed a bit tired. She nodded and closed her eyes.
Sharon had only planned to rest for a while but ended up falling asleep.
When Sharon woke up again, she found the car had already stopped at the entrance of The Thomas Villa.
It had turned from day to night outside, and the car was dimly lit, with the stylist and makeup artist gone.
"Awake? If you're still tired, you can nap a bit longer." Seb's low voice suddenly sounded in her ear, startling Sharon.
She sat up straight, took off the formal wear covering her, and handed it to Seb. "Why didn't you wake me?"
Seb turned on the car's light, "It's not an important party."
In other words, Seb thought her sleep was more important.
Sharon checked the time; it was seven-thirty, and the party had already started half an hour ago.
"Let's go in," Sharon said.
"Wait," Seb said, handing her two bags, "Here are your clothes and shoes. I'll wait outside. The car windows are tinted, so no one can see inside. Don't worry."
After Sharon took the bags, Seb opened the door and stepped out. Once the door was closed, Sharon took the clothes out of the bag.
Seb had picked out a pure white strapless gown for her. The dress had a cinched waist design, and the skirt was layered, with the bottom layer made of white silk and the top layer adorned with sequined tulle, sparkling under the lights.
The dress was simple yet elegant, and Sharon fell in love with it at first sight. The shoes were a pair of crystal heels, with a crystal flower embedded at the toe, clear and dazzling.
After changing into the dress and shoes, Sharon opened the door and got out of the car. A cold wind blew, making her shiver involuntarily. The next second, a jacket, still warm from body heat, was draped over her shoulders.
"Let's go," Seb said, taking her hand and leading her inside.
He walked half a step ahead of her, and when Sharon looked up, she could see his tall and handsome back, which made her eyes curve with a smile and filled her heart with warmth.
The two walked into the brightly lit and bustling hall of The Thomas Villa.
Sophie saw Sharon and, after saying something to the person next to her, ran over to Sharon. "Sharon, you finally made it! I've been waiting for you forever!"
"We got held up on the way," Sharon said.
Seb looked at Sharon and said in a low voice, "I'll be over there. If you need anything, just call me."
Sharon nodded and handed him the jacket she was wearing. Seb took the jacket, nodded at Sophie, and then left.
As soon as he left, Sophie immediately grabbed Sharon's hand and said, "Sharon, your advice really worked. I spent the whole afternoon at the Smith Group pestering Randy. Although he's still mad, his attitude towards me is much better than before."
"Keep it up, and you might reconcile tonight," Sharon said.
Sophie nodded in agreement, "Later, come with me to find Daniel. I plan to have a good talk with him."
Sharon looked at her, "Sophie, do you want to hold off on this? Right now, you and Randy are arguing because of Daniel. If Randy finds out you're meeting Daniel privately, all your efforts this afternoon will be in vain."
Hearing this, Sophie hesitated, her brows furrowing.
Seeing her conflicted expression, Sharon said in a low voice, "I think there's no rush with Daniel. Since you don't like him anymore, just avoid too much contact with him in the future."
Sophie was about to speak when a delighted voice suddenly came from beside them. "Ms. Roach, I didn't expect to see you here!"
Sharon and Sophie turned their heads simultaneously to see a woman in a light blue spaghetti strap gown walking towards them.
As the woman got closer, Sharon finally recognized her, Seb's niece, Bernice.
Sharon wasn't familiar with Bernice and didn't expect her to be so enthusiastic.
Sophie looked at Sharon, her eyes asking, "Who is this?"
Sharon said in a low voice, "Seb's niece, Bernice Smith."
While they were talking, Bernice had already walked up to Sharon. "Ms. Roach, I've asked Uncle Seb several times to bring you to have a meal with us, but he always refused. I've been wanting to formally meet you."
Sharon smiled and greeted her, "Seb is over there discussing business."
"I just greeted him. Ms. Roach, I actually have another matter to discuss with you today," Bernice said.
Sharon's eyes flashed with surprise, "What is it?"
Bernice glanced at Sophie, hesitating to speak.
Sophie, being perceptive, knew they wanted to talk privately and let go of Sharon's hand, "Sharon, I'll go chat with some friends over there. I'll come find you later."
"Okay," Sharon said.
After Sophie left, Bernice finally stated her purpose, "Ms. Roach, does your father have a house in Sunnyvale Community?"
"Yes, why do you ask?" Sharon replied.
Sunnyvale Community was where her family's old house was, and her father had moved there after being discharged from the hospital.
"That community is going to be demolished soon. Someone will probably come to discuss compensation with your father," Bernice said.
"How do you know about this? And why are you telling me?" Sharon looked at her, her eyes cold.
Bernice sighed, "My company is planning to develop that land in collaboration with the Bridges Group, but the residents are reluctant to move."
Seeing that Sharon didn't respond, she continued, "I came here today to ask if you could talk to Mr. Wright. If you agree to be the first to move, I can arrange for you to get an extra house."
"Ms. Smith, I might not be able to help you with this. My father may not want to move," Sharon replied.
Robert had kept that house for so many years because it held memories of their family.
Moreover, when Sharon had taken Robert there last time, she noticed that most of the residents were elderly people who had lived there for decades and were emotionally attached to the place.
"Ms. Roach, the compensation is over a million dollars, and each family will get two houses. I think you should discuss it with your father," Bernice said.
Bernice believed the offer was generous. If the community weren't located in Metropolis, the compensation would be at most two hundred thousand dollars.
Sharon shook her head, "I can't decide this, but I'll relay your message to my father."
Hearing this, Bernice thought it was a good outcome and quickly said, "Thank you, Ms. Roach!"
"If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave," Sharon said.
"Ms. Roach, no need to be so formal. Just call me Bernice," Bernice said.
"Alright, I'll go find my friend now," Sharon said.
"Okay, Ms. Roach. If there's any news, have Uncle Seb contact me," Bernice said.
Sharon nodded slightly and walked towards Sophie.
Ten minutes later, Sophie, having learned about the demolition of Sunnyvale Community, hugged Sharon's arm, "Sharon, your family is going to get rich from the compensation. When I need help, you have to help me, okay?"
Sharon looked at her with amusement, "Stop joking. Even if there's compensation, that money is for my dad's retirement. It has nothing to do with me."
"That doesn't stop me from asking for your help," Sophie said.
As Sharon and Sophie were talking, a tall figure approached.
Seeing it was Daniel, Sophie stopped smiling and showed no expression.
Daniel didn't seem to mind Sophie's cold attitude and sat down opposite her and Sharon. "Sophie, can we talk?"
Sophie looked at him coldly, "Daniel, I did plan to talk to you before coming to the party, but now I don't want to. Professionally, the business between our groups is not for me to discuss with you. Personally, we broke up five years ago, and there's nothing to talk about."
Daniel looked at her with a mix of helplessness and affection, "Sophie, your personality hasn't changed at all."
Sophie looked up at him and then frowned. "Daniel, can you stop looking at me so disgustingly? I'm afraid I'll throw up my dinner."
