Chapter 227 Take This Opportunity to Find Another Rich Man
Facing Grace's questioning eyes, Victor's gaze darkened. He stood up and walked towards her. "Grace, let me explain."
Grace chucked the thermos box at him. It hit Victor and then fell to the ground, rolling a few times before stopping next to the sofa.
Victor's face turned super grim, and his gaze towards Grace grew cold.
Grace, however, didn't notice. She said angrily, "I heard it loud and clear. What else is there to explain? If you won't keep your promise to deal with Sharon, then we're done!"
With that, Grace turned and stormed off.
Watching Grace's back, Victor's fist clenched on its own. After hesitating for a few seconds, he ran after her.
He stopped Grace at the elevator and looked her in the eyes, trying to calm her down. "Grace, this is totally my bad. Don't be upset. I promise I'll keep my word, okay?"
Grace lifted her tear-filled eyes. "Can I still trust you?"
Her tear-streaked face made Victor's heart ache. He hurriedly wiped her tears away.
"Grace, I'm sorry. Don't cry. When you cry, it kills me. I promise I won't lie to you again, okay?"
"Really?"
"Of course, I promise."
Grace smiled through her tears. "Okay, I'll trust you one more time. If you lie to me again, I'll disappear where you can never find me."
"Alright, don't cry. Seeing you cry breaks my heart too."
Grace threw herself into Victor's arms, her voice still tinged with a sob. "Okay, just don't lie to me again."
"I won't."
Grace buried her head in Victor's chest, a smile slowly forming on her lips.
When Sharon got back to the villa, she went straight to her bedroom to hit the books.
Soon it was dinner time. During dinner, Sophie mentioned that she would be staying at her family's house tonight.
"My mom said they're throwing a party for me, and there's a lot to do tomorrow. So, I'll stay there tonight, and you can just come to my family's house tomorrow."
Sharon nodded. "Okay."
She handed Sophie a pair of diamond earrings she had prepared. "Happy birthday! This is your birthday gift. There will probably be a lot of people tomorrow, so I'm giving it to you today."
Seeing the diamond earrings, Sophie's eyes lit up with surprise.
"They're beautiful. I love them. I'll wear them with my outfit tomorrow. Thank you, Sharon!"
"As long as you like them."
After dinner, Sophie drove away, and Sharon went back to her room to keep studying until late at night before crashing.
On the other side, Grace knew that Victor was going to attend Sophie's birthday party tomorrow night, so she insisted on going with him.
Victor raised an eyebrow at her. "Sophie is Sharon's good friend. You might run into Sharon tomorrow. Are you sure you want to go?"
Grace nodded. "Of course. I'm your girlfriend. I should go with you to some parties. Don't worry. I won't do anything to Sharon in public."
Hearing this, Victor thought for a few seconds and then agreed.
After all, his relationship with Grace was already public, and he should indeed take her to such events.
However, thinking about Grace's illness, Victor's eyes darkened again.
Sensing Victor's mood change, Grace looked at him worriedly. "Victor, am I making things difficult for you? If it's too much trouble, I won't go."
Victor looked down at Grace's worried eyes and said softly, "No, I was just thinking about something else."
Seeing that Victor didn't want to talk about it, Grace didn't push. She just leaned against his chest and said softly, "If it's something that bums you out, don't think about it. I want you to be happy when you're with me."
"Okay."
The two hugged each other, but their minds were elsewhere.
Victor was worried about Grace's health, while Grace was thinking about the party tomorrow night. If Seb showed up, she needed to find a way to get close to him. Tomorrow night was one of her rare chances to approach Seb.
Soon it was the next evening. When Sharon rolled up to Sophie's place, the front yard was already packed with luxury cars.
After confirming Sharon's identity, the servant led her to the hall.
As soon as she walked in, Sharon noticed a lot of people giving her the side-eye, accompanied by whispers.
"Isn't that Sharon? I thought she'd vanish from this scene after divorcing Alex."
"I don't know where she got the nerve to show up at Sophie's birthday party. Is she hunting for another rich guy?"
"Everyone in Metropolis knows about her and the Smith family. Who'd want her? Maybe someone would keep her as a plaything, though. She does have a pretty face."
Sophie also caught wind of the whispers around her, and her face immediately darkened.
"Sharon is my friend and my guest at this party. She's no different from anyone else here. If anyone has a problem with my friend, they can leave. After all, tonight is my birthday party, not anyone else's."
As Sophie's voice fell, the hall went silent. Many people looked at Sophie with faint dissatisfaction, as they had just been gossiping about Sharon.
Maria whispered, "Sophie, tonight's guests are all Metropolis elites. If you tick them off, your family business might suffer. They were just saying a few words, and Sharon won't lose anything."
Sophie ignored Maria and walked directly to Sharon with a smile. "Sharon, thanks for coming to my birthday party."
Sharon was touched by Sophie's defense but knew that Sophie's words would cause dissatisfaction among many people.
She whispered to Sophie, "Sophie, go greet the other guests. Don't let me distract you from your party."
Sophie grabbed Sharon's hand and said naturally, "Don't worry, it won't mess up anything. Those who look down on you aren't worth our time. By the way, I have a surprise for you tonight."
"What surprise?"
"You'll know when you come with me."
Sophie led Sharon to a corner of the hall, ignoring the others and their disapproving looks.
Maria's smile almost froze, but she couldn't afford to show her displeasure. She had to smile and greet the other guests, and soon the hall was lively again.
Sophie brought Sharon to Zachary Cook, her eyes full of smiles.
"Sharon, this is Zachary Cook, my senior from college. He doesn't have a girlfriend yet. Zachary, this is Sharon Wright, the friend I always talk about."
Sharon looked at Zachary. He was wearing a white suit and had a gentle expression, clearly a kind person.
When Sophie introduced them, Sharon thought she saw Zachary blush a little, though she wasn't sure.
When Seb walked into the hall, his eyes unconsciously fell on Sharon in the corner.
Seeing a man in a white suit standing in front of her, Seb's steps paused.
And when he noticed the guy looking at Sharon with admiration and affection, Seb's brows furrowed.
