Everyone was stunned, expecting a rich person from Metropolis, but it was just some young guy they didn't know.
The place buzzed. "Who is this guy? Never seen him before."
"No clue, but anyone bidding two billion must be someone."
Next to Leo, Ashley dropped her phone in shock. She whispered, "Leo, are you nuts? Where'd you get that kind of money?"
"Relax, if I'm bidding, I can pay."
Seb shot Leo a dangerous look.
Their eyes locked, tension crackling between them.
Sophie was shocked too. She turned to Sharon. "Leo went abroad and got this rich? If I'd known, I'd have gone too."
Sharon was speechless, also surprised by Leo's bid. Leo was still renting an apartment, showing no signs of wealth.
Sharon thought, 'Is Leo trying to get back at Seb for dumping me?'
But if Seb didn't bid more, Leo would need two billion. Where would he get that?
Seb raised his paddle. "Three billion!"
Leo followed. "Four billion!"
"Five billion!"
"Six billion!"
"Ten billion!"
The room went silent. The jewelry wasn't worth that much. Leo and Seb were bidding like madmen, driving the price to ten billion.
Sophie looked at the jewelry and thought, 'With ten billion, I could do anything.'
She whispered to Sharon, "Is Leo crazy? You wouldn't even get ten billion if you sold everything he owns!"
Leo had only been abroad a few years; how could he have that much money?
Sharon shook her head. "I don't know."
She also thought Leo was crazy and doubted he could pay.
Sharon wondered, 'Is Leo ruining his life out of anger?'
Seeing Seb about to bid again, Grace grabbed his hand. "Seb, stop. This jewelry is worth at most one billion. But I'm touched you bid so high for me."
Seb pulled his hand away and raised his paddle. "Twenty billion!"
The auctioneer was almost incoherent with excitement. He never expected this set to fetch such a high price; it was the peak of his career!
"Twenty billion, going once! Any more bids?"
"Twenty billion, going twice!"
Finally, the gavel came down. "Sold for twenty billion! Congrats to the gentleman with paddle number twenty-eight for winning the Tears of Eternity!"
The room buzzed with excitement.
"Oh my God, my heart almost stopped. Twenty billion! Why am I not Seb's girlfriend?"
"This is the priciest auction I've ever seen. Seb is so generous to Grace, spending twenty billion without batting an eye."
"I don't see anything special about Grace. How could Seb spend twenty billion on jewelry just because she likes it?"
Everyone was buzzing about Grace and Seb. Grace couldn't help but smile, looking at Seb with excitement and admiration.
Twenty billion dollars! Seb spent it just to buy her jewelry!
Grace turned to Sharon with a smug smile, expecting jealousy. But Sharon just met her gaze calmly and looked away.
Grace frowned, thinking, 'Sharon must be faking it; she's probably dying of jealousy inside.'
Soon, someone brought a receipt for Seb to sign and swipe his card. After the transaction, the staff handed over the jewelry, with the Tears of Eternity on top.
Seb opened the box, and the Tears of Eternity sparkled under the lights, drawing everyone's attention.
Even though the auction was over, no one left. All eyes were on the jewelry in Seb's hands, some speculating he might propose to Grace.
Seeing the jewelry go to Grace, Sophie was sour.
"What did Grace do to Seb? Spending twenty billion just like that. Thinking about that jewelry on Grace's neck makes me furious!"
If anyone other than Seb or Alex had won, Sophie wouldn't be this angry.
Sharon quietly comforted her. "Don't be mad. Think about how he spent twenty billion on something worth only one billion. Doesn't that make you feel better? Only a fool would do that."
Sharon wouldn't consider anything over budget, no matter how much she liked it.
But Seb was a billionaire, and for him, spending twenty billion to make Grace happy might be worth it.
Sophie pouted, glanced at the jewelry again, then laughed.
"You're right. For one billion, it might be stunning. But twenty billion? That's just insane. I wouldn't be that foolish!"
Seeing Sophie smile, Sharon also smiled. "Since you're not mad anymore, let's go."
"Alright, we didn't win anything tonight. Staying here is just frustrating!"
On the other side, as Seb opened the jewelry box, Grace's breath lightened, and she got nervous.
Back when they were together, Seb always helped her put on the jewelry he bought.
Thinking about this set soon being around her neck, Grace was extremely excited.
"Seb."
Grace approached Seb, eyes full of anticipation, lifting her hair for him to put the jewelry on.
The envious gazes around her made Grace feel elated. After tonight, everyone in Metropolis would know she was the woman Seb cherished.
But then, Grace's smile froze.
Without even looking at her, Seb took the Tears of Eternity and walked straight towards Sharon.
Sharon and Sophie were heading towards the door when they heard gasps and murmurs behind them. They turned to see Seb walking towards them.
"Sharon, is Seb going to give the Tears of Eternity to you?"
Sharon frowned and whispered, "Don't get your hopes up. Let's go."
She pulled Sophie towards the exit, but Seb blocked their way.
Seb held the Tears of Eternity in front of Sharon and said slowly, "The meaning behind this jewelry is that even if it's lost for a thousand years, my love will still be only for you."
