Chapter 537 Running Is Pointless

Jesse smirked. "You really think I'd let her know?"

Daniel's face darkened, and he snapped, "Jesse, no matter what I say, you don't plan on letting Sophie and me go, do you?"

"I told you, whether you live or not depends on whether you're willing to tell the truth. If you keep lying and digging your own grave, there's nothing I can do."

Daniel's hand clenched at his side involuntarily. Regret surged through him; he should never have accepted Jesse's help in the first place. If he hadn't, he wouldn't be in this mess now.

But it was too late for regrets.

If it were just him, it wouldn't matter whether he lived or died. But now that Jesse had Sophie, it was like he had his Achilles' heel.

He took a deep breath, about to speak, when footsteps suddenly echoed from the doorway.

Everyone in the living room turned to look. Seb entered with a dozen men, surrounding Jesse and his crew.

Seeing Seb, Jesse's face turned grim, while Daniel's eyes lit up instantly.

"Mr. Smith!"

Choosing Seb was the right call!

He and Sophie were saved!

Seb didn't look at him or respond. Instead, he walked straight to Jesse and sat down opposite him.

"Mr. Scott, this is Metropolis, not Stellaria. You don't get to run wild here."

Jesse leaned back, looking nonchalant. "Mr. Smith, I've heard a lot about you. But right now, I'm dealing with a matter between Mr. Thomas and myself. I advise you not to interfere, or you'll just bring trouble upon yourself. Don't you think?"

"Mr. Thomas is my friend. His business is my business. Besides, you recently blocked my wife's car on the road. Shouldn't we settle that score too?"

Jesse's eyes narrowed. "Mr. Smith, I need to correct you. As far as I know, you and Ms. Roach aren't married, so you have no relationship. At most, you're cohabiting. As for Mr. Thomas, you might not be able to intervene. After all, he owes me several billion dollars. Are you planning to pay it back for him?"

The living room fell silent, tension thick in the air, ready to snap at any moment.

After a long pause, Seb spoke coldly, "Mr. Scott, just because Mr. Thomas owes you money, you think you can kidnap an innocent woman to threaten him?"

"Mr. Smith, I didn't kidnap Ms. Lee. I merely invited her over."

"Let's see if she thinks it's kidnapping. I've already called the police. They'll be here soon. You can repeat what you just said to them and see if they believe you."

Jesse sneered, standing up to look down at Seb. "Mr. Smith, I'll remember this. We'll see how it goes!"

He turned to Toby. "Let's go!"

As Jesse left, his men followed quickly, and the living room emptied by half.

Seb turned to Paul. "Take them outside to stand guard."

"Yes, Mr. Smith."

Once Seb's men had left, Daniel rushed to Sophie, untying the ropes around her.

"Sophie, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault."

As soon as the tape was ripped from her mouth, Sophie pushed Daniel away, frowning. "Stay away from me!"

Seeing her look of disgust, Daniel's face froze, and he awkwardly withdrew his hand.

Sophie must hate him now. They had broken up long ago, and now she had been dragged into this mess and kidnapped because of him.

"I'm sorry. I promise this won't happen again."

Sophie shook off the ropes and stood up, glaring at him coldly. "Daniel, your promises mean nothing. I don't want to hear them. I hope this is the last time we meet. I don't want to see you again!"

With that, she turned to leave.

Daniel quickly blocked her. "Sophie, I didn't want this to happen either. I'll have someone protect you..."

She cut him off. "Enough. I don't need your protection. Use that time to sort out your own mess and stop dragging others down!"

With that, Sophie didn't look back and walked out.

Daniel wanted to follow, but Seb stopped him.

"You're in no position to protect yourself. Chasing after her won't help."

Daniel froze, watching Sophie disappear from sight.

Seeing Daniel's pale face, Seb frowned. "He's gone. I didn't handle things well today. My men will take you away. Jesse won't find you again."

Daniel lowered his head. "No need."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm not running anymore."

If Jesse could find him once, he could find him again.

Jesse's connections and power in Metropolis were far greater than he had imagined.

And if he ran, who knew what Jesse would do to Sophie.

So he wasn't running. He'd stay and fight Jesse with Seb.

He looked up at Seb, his face icy. "As long as Jesse is the VP of MK Group, running is pointless. I'll stay and fight him with you."

The living room fell silent.

Seb looked at him. "Are you sure?"

Facing Jesse, Seb wasn't confident. Daniel had no chance. He had investigated; the Thomas Group survived because Jesse funded it. Daniel fighting Jesse was like an egg hitting a rock.

Daniel nodded. "I'm sure. Now that Jesse knows I've told you everything about him, I've betrayed him. He won't let me go. I have to team up with you to fight him!"

Over the years, Daniel had gathered evidence of Jesse's dirty dealings. Any one of them could keep Jesse busy for a while.

Thinking of this, Daniel felt a bit more confident.

"Alright, I'll have someone protect you. Be careful when you go out. Don't give Jesse a chance to grab you," Seb said.

"Don't worry. I'll be careful."

"If there's nothing else, I'll head back. Stay in touch."

"Okay."

Watching Seb leave, Daniel wanted to call out to him several times but held back.

The evidence he had against Jesse was his last bargaining chip. He couldn't let Seb know yet.

Leaving the Thomas Villa, Seb returned to his own place.

Entering the living room, he saw Sharon sitting on the couch, lost in thought, while Demetrius did his homework nearby.

He changed his shoes and sat next to Sharon. "Sharon, what are you thinking about?"

Hearing Seb's voice, Sharon snapped back to reality and turned to him.

"You're back? I'll get Dana to prepare dinner."

As she stood, Seb took her hand. "What were you thinking about? You seemed so deep in thought."
