Chapter 368 I Don't Need Your Help

Kirk grinned. "I've been hanging around for a bit. You were on the phone, so I didn't want to bug you."

"Okay," Ariana said, but there was a flicker of annoyance in her eyes.

So, Kirk had been there long enough to overhear her call.

She used to think Kirk was alright, but now she was feeling pretty grossed out. Because what kind of a decent person could Kirk be if he eavesdroped on others' phone conversations?

Seeing her mood shift, Kirk tried again. "I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to listen in, so I stayed outside. But you were kinda loud; I think even if I was in the next lab, I would've heard you."

Ariana frowned. "Mr. Marshall, do you need something? If not, I'm heading to lunch."

"I came to drop off some documents for Ms. Roach. Since she's not here, could you pass them to her this afternoon?" Kirk asked.

"Sure," Ariana said.

She took the documents and stashed them in a drawer, ready to head to the cafeteria. But as she reached the door, Kirk was still there, like he was waiting for something.

"Mr. Marshall, anything else?" Ariana asked.

Kirk shook his head, looking a bit worried. "Ariana, since you're with Silvercrest Group now, we're colleagues. If you ever need help, just let me know. If you need money, I can also..."

Before he could finish, Ariana cut him off, "Mr. Marshall, I don't need your help."

Her face was cold, clearly not interested.

Kirk didn't get mad; he just nodded. "Alright, but if you ever need anything, you know where to find me."

Ariana didn't say another word and walked past him, leaving.

Kirk watched her go, his eyes narrowing a bit, a slow smile spreading across his face.

When Sharon got to the CEO's office on the top floor, Seb was still buried in documents. He said, "The food's in the insulated box on the table. You go ahead and eat; I'll join you once I'm done here."

Seb's eyes never left the papers, showing just how swamped he was. Sharon didn't want to interrupt, so she just said, "Alright," and sat on the sofa. She didn't open the box; instead, she pulled out her phone to play a game, planning to wait for Seb.

After finishing his work, Seb looked up and saw Sharon on the sofa, still on her phone, the box untouched. He frowned. "You don't have to wait for me."

Sharon looked up, meeting his deep gaze, her heart skipping a beat. "I'm not hungry. I can wait."

Seb was quiet for a few seconds, then got up and walked over to her.

Sharon was surprised and frowned a bit. "You don't have to do this for me, I..."

"You're the one being considerate. Besides, the documents can wait until the afternoon," Seb said.

He was already at her side, opening the box and setting out the food.

Sharon wanted to say that if the documents were important, she could wait. However, the image of Seb clutching his stomach, his face ashen with pain, suddenly flashed in her mind, and she remained silent.

His stomach issues were from not eating on time. Handling the documents after eating wouldn't be a big deal. He shouldn't wreck his health for work.

As Seb set the food, Sharon noticed all the dishes were her favorites.

She looked down, her grip on the fork tightening. After all this time, he still remembered what she liked.

"I asked Paul to order based on your old preferences. Hope you still like it," Seb said.

Sharon smiled, "I do, thanks. I didn't think you'd remember."

Seb nodded, "Let's eat."

He'd gone over everything about her a million times since getting his memory back, so it was all crystal clear.

The two ate in quietude, and the office was immediately filled only with the clinking of utensils.

While eating, Sharon kept sneaking glances at Seb. His movements were so smooth and elegant, it was hard not to watch. Plus, he was super handsome, which explained why so many women were into him.

Catching her staring, Seb looked up. Their eyes met, and Sharon quickly looked away, awkwardly smiling. "This shrimp is really good."

"If you like it, I'll have Paul order it again tomorrow. Anything else you want?" Seb asked.

Sharon glanced at him but quickly looked away when their eyes met again. "No, just the shrimp is fine. You should get what you like too."

Seb nodded. "Alright."

After that, Sharon didn't dare look at Seb again and quietly finished her meal. When they were done, Seb poured her a glass of warm water.

"Thanks, but you don't have to. I can get my own water," Sharon said.

Seb raised an eyebrow. "You've been on edge since you walked in. Would you really get your own water if you were thirsty?"

Sharon stiffened, surprised he noticed. "Sorry, I haven't adjusted yet."

"No need to apologize. You'll get used to it. By the way, you can nap in my lounge this afternoon. I still have work to do, and I'll wake you at 1:30 pm," Seb offered.

Sharon instinctively refused, "No, I'll just go back to my office."

Seeing her resistance, Seb didn't push. They'd been apart for five years and were only together now because of Demetrius. They needed time to get used to each other again. But he didn't just want to pretend to be a couple; he wanted to really be her husband.

"Alright," Seb said.

Sharon put down the water glass. "You still have work to do. I'll clean up the food and leave. I won't disturb you."

Seb said, "No need. The assistant will clean up later."

Sharon nodded. "Okay, then I'll head back."

Seb added, "Alright, wait for me after work, and we'll go home together."

Sharon nodded, then fled as if she were escaping.  Only after leaving Seb's office did she feel a bit relieved.

For some reason, she always felt uneasy around Seb.

Not long after Sharon left, Paul walked into Seb's office with a document. "Mr. Smith, it seems the person harassing Ms. Roach isn't Mr. Wendy. Mr. Wendy has been at a fully enclosed business conference abroad these past few days and couldn't bring any electronic devices."

Seb's eyes darkened as he put down his pen. "Keep investigating. Start with Sharon's connections from five years ago. We need to find that person."

"Understood!" Paul responded.

Back downstairs, Sharon calmed herself and walked into the office. Ariana handed her a document. "Sharon, Mr. Marshall brought this over at noon and asked me to give it to you."

Sharon took it. "Thanks."

She returned to her desk and started reading the document. Recently, their experiment had hit a snag. One of the results just wouldn't come out right. Kirk had mentioned he'd done similar work before and had organized his previous references for Sharon.

After reading a few pages, Sharon got some inspiration and decided to try changing the catalyst. She put down the document and looked at Ariana, intending to discuss the catalyst change for the afternoon. Suddenly, she noticed Ariana's eyes were swollen and red, clearly from crying, and her gaze momentarily paused.

"Ariana, why are your eyes so red? Did something happen?" Sharon asked.
