Chapter 343 A Life Worse Than Death
Hearing the hesitation in Donna's voice, Sharon got the hint.
"Donna, relax. I won't let my personal feelings mess with my work. Plus, Mr. Smith is the president of Silvercrest Group. He's got bigger fish to fry than a small project," Sharon reassured her.
Donna let out a sigh of relief but still said, "Sharon, if it gets too much, I can talk to Mr. McPherson."
"It's all good. I don't have much going on in Metropolis right now. I'll wrap up this project before heading back to Aidamore," Sharon replied confidently.
Seeing her determination, Donna didn't push further and said softly, "Alright, I'll send you the project details later. In a couple of days, Jake and Ariana will also head to Metropolis to help you out."
"Okay, got it," Sharon acknowledged.
Not long after ending the call, Sharon received the project details from Donna. When she opened it, her expression turned a bit complicated. She hadn't expected to work with Silvercrest Group again after five years.
Meanwhile, Seb got a call from Aidamore.
"Mr. Smith, everything's set. Sharon agreed to take on the project. In a few days, my other two students will also be there. Please look after them while they're in Metropolis," Lavern informed him.
Seb closed the file and said calmly, "Mr. McPherson, you're too kind. I should be thanking you for letting your students work on a project with Silvercrest Group."
"It's my pleasure. I know you're busy, Mr. Smith, so I won't take up more of your time," Lavern replied.
After hanging up, Seb put down his phone and picked up the file to continue reading. In the office, Paul stayed quiet but was confused. If Seb didn't plan to tell Sharon that he had regained his memory or pursue her again, why bring her to work at the group? But that was none of his business, and he didn't dare to ask. After all, he had hidden the truth about Seb's amnesia for so long. He was just grateful that Seb still kept him at Silvercrest Group.
In the following days, Sharon studied the project details at home. Soon, it was the day Jake and Ariana arrived in Metropolis. She dropped Demetrius off at Seb's villa and drove to pick them up.
Jake and Ariana were visibly excited to see Sharon. Everyone in the lab loved working on projects with her. Sharon was beautiful and capable. Whenever they hit a snag, their first move was to ask Sharon for help. Most of the time, Sharon could help them find solutions. Even if she couldn't, she'd provide reference materials that often sparked new ideas.
"Sharon, long time no see! We've missed you!" Jake, a cheerful and sunny young man, grinned so widely that his eyes squinted.
Ariana, more reserved but also smiling, added, "Yeah, it's great to see you again, Sharon!"
Sharon smiled. "I've missed you too. You must be tired from the flight. I'll take you to drop off your luggage first. By the way, is your accommodation covered by the lab or arranged by Silvercrest Group?"
"Silvercrest Group arranged it. We need to go there first," Jake explained.
Sharon nodded. "Alright, I'll take you there first, and then we can grab dinner once you're settled."
In less than an hour, Sharon's car was parked in front of Silvercrest Group.
Jake called the contact person at Silvercrest Group. Soon, Jimmy Gibson, about 5'9" with a big belly and a smiling face came out.
Seeing Sharon and the others, he immediately walked up. "Hey there, are you the researchers from Aidamore? I'm Jimmy Gibson, the deputy manager of HR at Silvercrest Group. Welcome."
After introductions, Jimmy smiled and said, "Alright, Mr. Dickson and Ms. Stout, your accommodations are ready. I'll take you there now."
"Thanks," Sharon replied.
The accommodations for Jake and Ariana were close to Silvercrest Group, just two streets away. Both had one-bedroom apartments, and there were many other employees on the same floor who were also on business trips to Silvercrest Group.
Seeing that Jake and Ariana were satisfied with the dorms, Jimmy said a bit apologetically, "Ms. Roach, I was supposed to take you out for dinner today, but I have a meeting later. If there's nothing else, please come to Silvercrest Group at 9 AM tomorrow. I'll arrange for someone to give you your work badges and access cards and show you around."
Sharon nodded. "Alright, Mr. Gibson, you go ahead. We can handle dinner ourselves."
"Okay, I'll head back then. Sorry for the inconvenience today," Jimmy said before leaving.
After Jimmy left, Sharon planned to let Jake and Ariana rest for a while before taking them out to eat, but they were both curious and excited about their first time in Metropolis.
"Sharon, you're from Metropolis. Can you show us around? I've heard there are so many shopping centers here, and I can't wait to shop!" Ariana said excitedly, ready to hit the stores.
Jake also looked eager. "Yeah, Sharon, before I came, my girlfriend specifically asked me to buy her some things and even gave me a list."
Sharon nodded. "Alright, let's go shopping first."
Sharon took Jake and Ariana to the mall for the afternoon, and by the end, they were all carrying bags. Seeing that Jake and Ariana were tired from shopping, Sharon decided not to take them to the restaurant she had previously chosen. Instead, they found a popular spot in the mall.
Once seated, Jake and Ariana were both glowing with excitement.
"Metropolis truly lives up to its reputation as a top city. We learned so much today!" Jake exclaimed.
"Yeah, we never had the chance to shop like this before," Ariana added.
Sharon smiled at them. "Aidamore isn't bad either. You just never went out."
Ariana nodded. "Exactly, we spend all our time in the lab. I never feel like going out."
Their lab was far from the city center, and they were always busy. Whenever they had a break, they just wanted to lie in bed and do nothing. If the Metropolis project had already begun, they likely wouldn't have been in the mood to go shopping today.
They chatted and laughed, not noticing a resentful figure staring at Sharon from a distance. Grace gripped her knife and fork tightly, her eyes filled with jealousy and hatred. Why had she been living a miserable life while Sharon was so happy?
Grace thought, 'Damn it! Sharon, you should die!'
Grace was so angry that her body trembled, and her once smiling face twisted. The sound of the knife and fork scraping the plate was so loud that Victor frowned and said, "If you don't want to eat, put down the utensils. Don't embarrass me in public."
Grace snapped back to reality, and as her gaze met Victor's chilling, sombre eyes, she involuntarily shuddered. She forced a smile and nodded towards Sharon's direction. "Victor, look who it is?"
