Chapter 365 I Want to Be with Dad

In the group chat, nobody dared to respond to Seb's message. But in the leaderless groups, the chatter was already going wild.

Employee 1: [Did I read that right? Mr. Smith said he's going after Sharon?]

Employee 2: [I can't believe it either, but that's exactly what he said.]

Employee 3: [I'm so jealous.]

Some of the old-timers at Silvercrest Group couldn't resist jumping in.

A veteran employee shared: [Actually, Mr. Smith made their relationship public a few years ago, but then she fell into the sea, and everyone thought she was dead. Who would've thought she'd suddenly reappear five years later?]

Employee 1: [Is this Sharon the same Sharon from before? I was shocked when I saw her because they look almost identical. Could it be that someone deliberately had plastic surgery to look like Sharon to seduce Mr. Smith?]

Employee 2: [Who knows? We're just bystanders anyway.]

Employee 3: [Alright, stop talking. If this gets out, Mr. Smith will definitely follow through on his promise to fire us.]

There was a moment of silence in the lab. Adeline looked at Sharon with envy. "Sharon, I didn't expect Mr. Smith to be pursuing you."

Miguel sneered, "That's why I say some people have their ways. They can even get Mr. Smith to..."

Before Miguel could finish his sentence, he saw Ariana pointing her phone camera at him.

Miguel's expression changed. "Ariana, what are you doing?"

Ariana smiled slightly. "Go on, keep talking. I'll record it and send it to the group later. Let's see if you'll be the first to get fired for talking about Sharon."

Miguel's eyes turned cold and menacing, staring at Ariana like a viper ready to strike from the shadows.

However, Ariana wasn't afraid of him at all; she had long been fed up with Miguel.

"What? Want to hit me? You, a grown man, spend all day gossiping about others. No wonder you're in your thirties and still don't have a girlfriend. No woman would want someone like you," Ariana taunted.

Miguel clenched his fists, his whole body tensing up as if he might rush at Ariana at any moment.

The atmosphere instantly became tense.

Sharon pulled Ariana behind her and looked at Miguel coldly. "Miguel, you've been causing trouble for no reason lately. I've always asked Ariana and Jake to tolerate it, but if you keep pushing, I'll make sure you can't stay on this project!"

Miguel looked at her coldly. "Are you threatening me?"

"You can think of it that way," Sharon replied calmly.

Just as the tension was about to reach its peak, Kirk's voice came from the doorway, "What are you all doing? Why is the lab atmosphere so heavy this early in the morning?"

Sharon turned to look at Kirk, who had a smile on his face. "Nothing much. Mr. Marshall, since you're here, let's talk about the upcoming work arrangements."

Noticing her cold attitude, Kirk didn't get mad and just nodded. "Alright."

As they walked towards the office, Kirk shot Miguel a warning glance.

Kirk thought to himself, 'Miguel, if you mess up my plans, you're done for!'

After everyone had discussed the upcoming work arrangements, Kirk left.

Sharon took out her phone, hesitated for a moment, and then sent Seb a message asking why he did what he did.

After waiting a while without a reply from Seb, Sharon had to put down her phone and get back to work.

Around noon, Seb suddenly showed up at the lab door.

At this moment, Sharon was focused on the reaction in the equipment when Ariana nudged her, and she saw Seb standing outside the lab's glass window, looking directly at her. It was obvious he was there to see her.

She handed the notebook to Ariana. "You take notes first. I'll step out for a bit."

Walking out of the lab, she looked up at Seb. "Why are you here?"

"Didn't you ask me why I did it? I'm here to give you an answer," Seb replied.

Seeing the seriousness in his expression, her heart inexplicably started to race, and she instinctively looked away.

"Couldn't you just reply to the message? There's no need for you to come in person," she said.

"But I wanted to see you," Seb said softly.

Sharon frowned. "Mr. Smith, you..."

Seb interrupted her, "If I told the truth, no one would believe it. Now that it's said I'm pursuing you, people will focus on me and stop gossiping about you. Besides, I do want to pursue you again."

Sharon's mind flashed back to the things he said that night when he sent her and Demetrius back, and she didn't speak for a moment.

She had indeed been thinking about what he said these past few days but hadn't decided what to do.

After a moment of thought, she slowly spoke, "Mr. Smith, you don't need to pursue me. We're not the same as we were five years ago. I've been considering what you said that night. Once I make up my mind, I'll let you know. But before that, let's keep things as they are."

Seb's gaze deepened. "Alright, I understand. I won't bother you until you've made up your mind."

"If there's nothing else, I'll get back to work," Sharon said, turning to leave.

Sharon returned to the lab and took the notebook from Ariana. "You go have lunch first, and then come back to relieve me."

"Okay," Ariana replied, curious about what Seb had said to Sharon. However, since it was a private matter, she held back from asking.

After Ariana left, Sharon was alone in the lab, with only the hum of the experimental equipment breaking the silence.

Sharon lowered her eyes, her emotions all over the place.

When she saw Seb's statement in the group this morning, she felt a bit touched.

But her mind was in turmoil, unsure of what to do.

She hesitated, wanting to give them both a chance, but she was also scared of repeating past mistakes.

For now, it was good for them to get along peacefully; at least she wouldn't have any unrealistic expectations, and neither of them would get hurt.

Sharon decided to think it over carefully. Whether or not to give them another chance, she needed to talk to Seb in person.

In the evening, Sharon returned home and saw Demetrius sitting on the carpet with his head down upon entering. In front of him was a half-assembled Lego set, but he was just staring blankly at a piece in his hand.

Sharon put down her bag, changed her shoes, and sat on the sofa. "Demetrius, why are you daydreaming? Did something happen at school?"

Demetrius snapped out of it, shook his head, and said, "Mom, I'm fine."

Even though his face showed he was upset, he said he was fine.

Since Demetrius didn't want to talk, Sharon didn't push him. She reached out and patted his head. "Alright, if you need my help, just let me know. You can also talk to me about your troubles."

"Okay," Demetrius replied softly.

Sharon didn't say anything more and walked to the kitchen, quietly asking the nanny if anything had happened at school today.

The nanny shook her head while cooking. "No, but when I picked up Demetrius today, he seemed a bit down. He wasn't as lively as usual on the way back. I asked him, but he didn't say anything."

"I see. Please keep an eye on him for the next few days. If anything seems off, contact me immediately," Sharon instructed.

The nanny nodded. "Okay, Ms. Roach."

During dinner, Sharon placed Demetrius's favorite roast meat in front of him, but he only ate a couple of pieces without much interest.

After finishing his food, Demetrius put down his fork. "Mom, I'm done."

"You're eating so little today? Normally, you could eat this whole plate of roast meat yourself. Are you feeling unwell?" Sharon asked, concerned.

"No, I'm really full," Demetrius replied.

"Alright, then go play," Sharon said, watching him closely.

After dinner, Sharon played with Demetrius for a while before taking him to bathe and go to bed.

After Demetrius changed into his pajamas and got under the covers, Sharon was about to read him a bedtime story when he suddenly looked at her and asked, "Mom, will Mr. Cook not come to see me anymore?"

Sharon was taken aback. "Why do you ask that?"

"Mr. Cook used to call me every day, but he hasn't called for several days now, and he hasn't come to our place either," Demetrius said, looking sad.

Although Demetrius was young, he was sensitive and could sense that something was wrong between Sharon and Zachary.

Sharon was silent for a few seconds before looking at Demetrius. "Demetrius, things between Mr. Cook and me are complicated. I can't explain it to you right now, but I can assure you that Mr. Cook likes you very much. However, he has his own life and can't always be around us."

Demetrius's eyes dimmed, and he lowered his head. "I understand."

Sensing his disappointment, Sharon felt a pang of sadness and softly said, "If you miss him, you can call him."

Demetrius didn't respond to that but looked up at her. "Will you be with my dad?"

"Do you want me to be with him?" Sharon asked gently.

"I don't know. But I want to be with my dad," Demetrius replied.

Seeing the hope in his eyes, Sharon pursed her lips and tucked him in.

"Sleep now," she said softly.

After putting Demetrius to sleep, Sharon got up and left his room.

She didn't go back to her bedroom but sat on the sofa and dialed Seb's number.

"Sharon, why are you calling me at this hour?" Seb answered.

Sharon took a deep breath and said slowly, "Tonight, Demetrius asked me if I would be with you and then said he wanted to be with you. Did you teach him to say that?"

"Yes," Seb admitted without hesitation.

"This is between us. Can you not involve Demetrius?" Sharon asked.

Hearing the anger in her voice, Seb spoke softly, "Sharon, this isn't just about us. It concerns Demetrius too. It's about the three of us as a family."

"We are not a family," Sharon said firmly.

Seb sighed. "I admit, I used some tactics to get you back, but my goal is to bring you and Demetrius back to me. I can protect you now and won't let you get hurt again."

He continued, "Sharon, I love Demetrius as much as you do. I want to give him a complete family so he can grow up happy and healthy. Even if you don't want to be with me, you should consider Demetrius, right?"

"You did it on purpose. You know Demetrius is the most important to me," Sharon accused.

"You can punish me however you want, as long as you're willing to come back to me," Seb said earnestly.

Sharon felt both angry and helpless. If Seb had argued with her like before, she could have lashed out at him, but his softened attitude made her feel like she was punching a pillow. No matter how angry she was, she couldn't vent it.

After a moment of silence, she slowly said, "Let's talk tomorrow."
