Chapter 263 Seb Doesn't Recognize Her Anymore?

Sharon shot a quick look at Demetrius, who was chilling at the dining table, waiting for dinner, with a bit of doubt in her eyes.

"Donna, I really can't swing it tonight. The babysitter bailed, and I can't just leave Demetrius home alone."

"Then bring him over. I'll keep an eye on him while you chat with the investors, and then you can take him back."

Donna's urgency made it clear Sharon couldn't dodge tonight's party.

Sharon bit her lip and said softly, "Let me check with Demetrius."

After hanging up, Sharon walked over to the table, squatted down to Demetrius's level, and gently said, "Hey buddy, I gotta hit up a celebration party tonight. I don't wanna leave you here alone. Wanna come with? It won't be long."

Demetrius looked at her, thought for a sec, then nodded, "Okay."

He hopped off the chair and headed to his room.

Sharon followed and saw him come out with his old Walkman, probably loaded with some practice tapes. She felt a bit exasperated.

"Demetrius, you can bring some comic books. No need to study all the time."

Demetrius stayed cool, "I don't like comics."

"Then what do you like? Tell me, and I'll get it for you next time."

"I like studying."

Sharon went quiet.

Sometimes she felt like she had nothing in common with Demetrius. At his age, shouldn't kids be into toy cars and cartoons?

But Demetrius always seemed more mature and steady than she was.

Motherhood wasn't giving her the warm fuzzies she expected.

The party spot wasn't far from Sharon's place, and they got there in under half an hour.

As soon as they stepped out of the car, they saw Donna anxiously scanning the restaurant entrance.

Their eyes met, and Donna quickly walked over.

"Sharon, finally! Mr. Mcpherson asked me to wait for you."

Sharon nodded, "The investor here yet?"

"Not yet, but soon. There are a few interested investors in the private room now. You go ahead, and I'll take care of Demetrius."

Sharon looked down at Demetrius, about to say something, but he beat her to it, "Mom, you go work. I'll listen to Ms. Howard."

Sharon said, "Okay, Donna, he's all yours."

"No worries. Go on in."

When Sharon walked into the banquet hall, it was buzzing.

Seeing her, her mentor Lavern Mcpherson grinned and waved her over, "Sharon, come here. Meet Mr. Riley from Precision Pharmaceuticals. His company is also working on Alzheimer's drugs. You two should chat."

Sharon smiled and nodded, "Sure, nice to meet you, Mr. Riley."

Cecil Riley, a polished middle-aged guy, smiled at Sharon with admiration.

"Ms. Roach, you're so young and accomplished, developing a special drug for Alzheimer's in under three years. We can't keep up with you young folks!"

Sharon wasn't a fan of these events, preferring to do her research quietly behind the scenes.

"Mr. Riley, you're too kind. I'm still young and have a lot to learn from you."

Everyone loves a good compliment, especially from someone as capable and attractive as Sharon, making her words even more impactful.

After a few minutes of chatting, Cecil found himself even more impressed with Sharon.

If Cecil could snag Sharon for his company, they'd be cranking out new drugs and raking in the dough.

As Cecil and Sharon were chatting, the banquet hall door swung open.

The room went dead silent.

Someone jumped up first, rushing to the door, "Mr. Smith, you actually made it!"

Sharon turned and saw Seb walking in. Her face went pale, and she froze.

Her first instinct was to run away.

But then she remembered she had Demetrius with her. She quickly pulled out her phone and called Donna.

Demetrius was a mini-Seb. If Seb saw him, he'd instantly know Demetrius was his kid.

If Seb wanted to take Demetrius, Sharon wouldn't stand a chance.

She called Donna immediately, "Donna, get Demetrius out of the banquet hall now!"

Donna sounded confused, "What's going on?"

"I'll explain later. Just get him out now!"

Hearing the panic in Sharon's voice, Donna didn't ask more, "Okay, I'm on it."

After hanging up, Sharon let out a sigh of relief, but then Lavern walked up, "Sharon, come with me. I want to introduce you to Mr. Smith."

Sharon stood up stiffly, fighting the urge to bolt, and followed Lavern.

It had been five years. She'd seen on TV that Seb was engaged to Rebecca. Maybe he'd forgotten about her and wouldn't care anymore.

Thinking this, Sharon felt a bit more at ease.

When they reached Seb, Lavern exchanged a few pleasantries before introducing Sharon.

"Mr. Smith, this is Sharon Roach, the brains behind the new drug. If you have any questions, she's your go-to."

Seb's cold gaze landed on her, and Sharon tensed up, her palms sweating.

Seeing Sharon's pale face and the complicated look in her eyes, Seb raised an eyebrow.

"Ms. Roach, are you scared of me? If I remember right, this is our first meeting, isn't it?"

Sharon was stunned. First meeting?

Seb didn't recognize her?

Or was he pretending not to know her to keep their past under wraps?

Either way, it was a win for Sharon.

At least he wouldn't bother her, lowering the chance of him finding out about Demetrius.

Sharon forced a smile, "No, it's just that you're the CEO of a top pharmaceutical company, Mr. Smith. I'm a bit nervous."

Seb nodded, "That's good."

Seb then grilled Sharon on drug development. Seeing she could answer smoothly, his icy demeanor softened a bit.

Before coming, Seb had thought Sharon was just a woman who used her looks to climb the ladder. Now it seemed she had some real skills.

However, Sharon apparently hadn't realized they had met earlier that afternoon at the conference center. But Seb remembered.

When the elevator door opened, she had walked in with her head down and bumped into him.

Recalling the odd feeling when she bumped into him, Seb frowned.

Sharon, who was talking, instinctively paused, "Mr. Smith, did I say something wrong?"

Seb looked at her, lost in thought. Sharon's delicate features and clear eyes, like a calm lake, made him want to dive in and see what was underneath.

Realizing he had been staring, Seb looked away and said coldly, "No, Ms. Roach, you did well."
