Chapter 265 Aren't You Supposed to be Dead?
Demetrius gave a sweet nod, "Yeah, I missed you."
Zachary's grin got wider, and his eyes softened even more. "Missed you too, and guess what? I got you a little something."
With a bit of flair, Zachary pulled out a set of books from behind him and handed them over to Demetrius.
"Last time I saw you reading this series at home, so I snagged the original edition for you while I was abroad. You dig it?"
Demetrius's face lit up like a Christmas tree, "Thanks, Mr. Cook!"
He eagerly opened the book, his usually calm demeanor replaced with pure joy and innocence.
Sharon shot Zachary a slightly exasperated look, "Zachary, you really shouldn't keep buying gifts. This must've cost a fortune."
Five years back, after she landed in Aidamore, Zachary had tracked her down pretty quickly.
Over the years, she managed to do what she loved and keep Demetrius's existence under wraps, all thanks to Zachary's help.
She knew she owed him big time.
She couldn't ignore Zachary's feelings for her, and she couldn't keep soaking up his kindness without giving something back.
Maybe it was time to give Zachary and herself a real shot.
Zachary looked at her, his voice soft, "As long as it makes Demetrius happy, it's worth it."
The emotion in his eyes made Sharon look away, and she murmured, "We should get going, or we'll be late."
"Alright, you hop in first, I'll buckle Demetrius in."
Sharon nodded, and as she opened the car door, she noticed a small light green box on the passenger seat.
She smiled at Zachary and asked, "Do I get one too?"
Zachary had just finished buckling Demetrius in and replied softly, "Yep, see if you like it."
Sharon picked up the box and opened it. Instantly, a brilliant green light caught her eye, like the purest green from nature had been crafted into these stunning emerald earrings.
The earrings were simple yet elegant, each emerald cut to perfection, showcasing the flowing green and light within, like morning dew on fresh leaves, both refreshing and full of life.
"Do you like them?" Zachary asked softly.
"Yeah, they're gorgeous. I love them."
With that, Sharon swapped out her pearl studs for the emerald earrings. "How do they look?"
The streetlight beside the car cast a warm yellow glow. Sharon, smiling at Zachary, looked graceful and beautiful, her eyes sparkling like stars, making her even more captivating.
The glittering emerald earrings couldn't hold a candle to her radiant smile.
All Zachary could hear was his own heartbeat, pounding louder and louder, almost leaping out of his chest.
He quickly looked away, afraid his intense gaze might make her uncomfortable, but he couldn't help but look back, sincerely praising, "They're beautiful; they suit you perfectly."
"Then I'll wear these earrings tonight."
It wasn't until the car stopped in front of the restaurant that Zachary finally calmed down.
They got out of the car, and Zachary and Sharon walked in holding Demetrius's hand, looking very much like a family of three.
A black Maybach pulled up not far from them, and Seb stepped out of the back seat, followed by Rebecca.
Rebecca, smiling, held Seb's arm as they walked in.
"Seb, how long are you staying in Aidamore this time? I'm meeting a friend here. Can I head back to Metropolis with you?"
Seb looked straight ahead, his face totally blank, "Sure."
Rebecca's face lit up, but just as she was about to say something, she noticed Seb had stopped walking.
Confused, she looked up and saw Seb staring ahead. She followed his gaze but saw nothing.
"Seb, what's up?" she asked.
"Nothing, aren't you hungry? Let's go."
Seb and Rebecca walked into the restaurant, and a waiter led them to a private room.
Meanwhile, in the room next door, Zachary handed the menu to Sharon.
"Sharon, pick whatever you want. Tonight, we're celebrating your big win with the new drug. Dinner's on me."
"You already spoiled us with gifts today. Let me cover this one. I just got a bonus."
Zachary didn't push it, "Alright."
Sharon ordered a few specialty dishes and handed the menu back to Zachary, "Anything else you want?"
After ordering, Zachary looked at Sharon and said softly, "You've poured your heart into this new drug for years. Don't you think it's time for a break?"
Sharon shook her head, a bit helpless, "The lab's already diving into a new project. It's gonna get crazy next month."
Hearing that, Zachary's shoulders slumped a bit. He wanted to ask about Sharon's personal feelings but didn't want to come off too strong.
Sharon noticed something was off with him tonight but couldn't put her finger on it.
"What's up? Trying to recruit me to your company?"
Four years ago, Zachary took over the Cook Group, and under his leadership, it had climbed into the top ten in Aidamore.
Zachary forced a smile. "If you're game, I'd be thrilled."
Sharon raised an eyebrow, "I'll think about it after I graduate."
"Alright."
Looking into Zachary's gentle eyes, Sharon's heart started to race. She quickly stood up, "I'm gonna hit the restroom."
Leaving the private room, Sharon headed to the restroom at the end of the hallway.
As Sharon finished washing her hands and was about to leave, she bumped into Rebecca.
The moment Rebecca saw Sharon, her eyes went wide with shock and disbelief. "Sharon, aren't you dead?"
She stepped back, her voice trembling.
In Rebecca's mind, Sharon had fallen into the sea and died five years ago. How could she still be alive?
Sharon had no love lost for Rebecca and said coldly, "Wrong person."
"Wrong?"
Rebecca stared at her, gritting her teeth, "I'd recognize you anywhere! You're not dead? Why are you here now? I warn you, Seb is my fiancé. If you try to seduce him, you're a homewrecker!"
Sharon couldn't be bothered and walked away.
But Rebecca wasn't having it and rushed forward to grab her, yelling, "Sharon, if you don't promise to stay away from Seb, I won't let you leave!"
Sharon shook off her hand, sneering, "Lady, I'm not interested in your fiancé. If you keep bugging me, I'll call the cops."
With that, Sharon turned and left.
Rebecca watched her back, her nails digging into her palms, using the pain to stay clear-headed and calm her emotions.
'It's been five years, and Seb has totally forgotten Sharon. I shouldn't freak out; I need to stay cool!' Rebecca told herself. She returned to the private room ten minutes later.
Seeing Rebecca's pale face, Seb's eyes darkened, "What's wrong? You feeling sick?"
