Chapter 64 I Hope You Can Forgive Me
Sharon was suddenly yanked from behind and thrown to the ground.
A large truck roared past her.
Pain shot through her body, but Sharon felt nothing, just sitting on the ground in a daze.
"Are you okay?" Thinking Sharon was scared stiff by what just happened, the person who pulled her waved a hand in front of her eyes.
Sharon shook her head. "I'm fine, thank you."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
After confirming multiple times that Sharon was really okay, the person frowned and told her not to be distracted while crossing the street, then left.
Sharon didn't go home but went to see Robert instead.
When she arrived, Robert was undergoing dialysis.
Karen was a bit surprised to see her, quickly wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes and forcing a smile. "Sharon, how did you get here?"
Sharon sat down beside her, lowering her eyes. "I came to see my dad."
Karen sighed. "I don't know when we'll find a matching kidney. Your dad's health is getting worse, and every dialysis session is painful. It breaks my heart to see him like this."
As she spoke, Karen's eyes reddened again.
Sharon didn't say anything, looking at the ground as if deep in thought.
Karen then noticed Sharon's bandaged hand and quickly asked, "What happened to your hand? How did you get hurt?"
"It's nothing, just a small accident in the lab. It'll be fine in a while."
Seeing Sharon's indifferent attitude, Karen frowned, her eyes filled with concern. "You should rest at home if you're hurt. Why come to the hospital? I can take care of your dad. You just focus on your work."
Sharon nodded. "Okay, Aunt Karen, thank you."
"Don't mention it. We're married. He treated me well when he was doing well. If I left him when he's down, I'd really be heartless."
Besides, they genuinely loved each other, not just roommates.
As they talked, Robert finished his dialysis and came out.
Seeing his pale face and bloodless lips, Sharon's eyes stung with tears.
If it weren't for that accident, Robert wouldn't have fallen so quickly.
Thinking of this, Sharon's hand clenched unconsciously.
"Sharon, what happened to your hand?" Robert looked at her bandaged hand, his face full of concern.
After Sharon and Alex left that day, Robert regretted what he had said to her, but he was afraid she was still angry, so he didn't contact her.
"It's nothing, just a small injury." Sharon's indifferent expression made Robert feel a pang of sadness and guilt.
She used to cry even if she just scraped her hand a bit, but now, because the Wright family had fallen, she had to learn to be strong.
Robert said, "Sharon, I was wrong that day. I'm sorry. You've probably suffered a lot since marrying Alex, haven't you?"
Sharon was taken aback, her nose suddenly tingling.
She suppressed the tears welling up in her eyes and said softly, "It's okay."
"I've thought a lot these days. If you want to live outside, go ahead. I won't force you to move back. You're my only daughter, and I just want you to be happy."
Sharon nodded. "I know, Dad. I don't blame you."
"No matter what, don't wrong yourself. If it comes to it, I won't treat my illness. I don't want you to endure hardships in the Smith family."
Hearing this, Sharon frowned and looked at Robert angrily. "Dad, what are you saying? If you say that again, I won't come to see you."
Robert was about to speak when Karen quickly interjected, "Alright, Robert, stop talking. Think about how sad Sharon must be hearing this."
Seeing the sadness in Sharon's eyes, Robert sighed and said no more.
After sending Robert back to his room, Sharon couldn't help but ask him, "Dad, did they ever find out the exact cause of the Robert Pharmaceuticals accident?"
Robert was taken aback, then frowned. "Why are you asking about this all of a sudden?"
"I've been watching some safety incident videos lately, so I wanted to know how that accident happened. I need to avoid such incidents in the lab."
"I don't remember the exact cause. It's all in the past, and I don't want to bring it up again."
Sensing Robert's reluctance to discuss it, Sharon didn't press further and nodded. "Okay, I understand."
Just as she was about to leave, the door to the room suddenly opened, and Alex walked in. "Sharon, why didn't you tell me you were coming to see Mr. Wright? I could have come with you."
Seeing him, Sharon remembered how he had threatened her in the ward that morning, and a wave of disgust surged in her heart.
Furthermore, for Alex to know about her visit to Robert and arrive on time, he must've had her trailed, worried she would spill about his morning's deeds
Sharon took a deep breath, looked up at Alex, and smiled. "I thought you were busy, so I didn't tell you."
Seeing her smile, Alex paused.
Since learning about his infidelity, Sharon hadn't smiled at him. Her looks were always filled with either disgust or impatience.
Alex had almost forgotten that she used to always smile at him, her gaze soft and gentle.
Unconsciously, his gaze softened a bit too. "No matter how busy I am, I always have time to visit Dad with you."
Sharon nodded. "Okay, next time I'll let you know in advance, and we'll come together."
"Alright." Alex looked at Robert and chatted with him for a bit, noticing that Robert's attitude towards him was noticeably colder than before.
Robert used to think Alex treated Sharon well, so he always looked at him favorably.
But since he came to the hospital last time and said Sharon had moved out and refused to move back, Robert, after thinking it over, didn't see him as favorably anymore.
If Alex really treated Sharon well, she wouldn't have moved out.
Thinking of how Sharon had been wronged and how he had sided with Alex, making her sad, Robert was filled with guilt and self-blame. "If you're busy, you don't need to come. I understand."
Sharon bit her lip, knowing that Robert was being cold to Alex because he knew she had been wronged. "Dad, no matter how busy I am, I'll make time to visit you."
Robert wanted to say more, but seeing Sharon's troubled expression, he ultimately said nothing.
After staying a while longer, Sharon and Alex left together.
While waiting for the elevator, Alex looked down at Sharon and said softly, "Sharon, I was wrong this morning. I've already arranged for someone to continue looking for a kidney for Dad. I hope you can forgive me."
