Chapter 306 Never Seen Seb So Childish
As soon as she finished speaking, the room went dead silent.
Seb was caught off guard, a rush of emotions he couldn't quite name bubbling up inside him.
Growing up, he'd always had the best education, where making money was more important than being happy or free.
Every choice he made was all about the bottom line; feelings didn't matter to him.
He never even thought about whether he was happy.
But when Sharon said the most important thing was for Demetrius to grow up happy and free, it hit him right in the heart.
In the quiet, Seb's phone suddenly rang.
Seeing it was Rebecca, he frowned a bit and stepped out of the room.
With him gone, the heavy mood in the room lifted.
When he came back after the call, Demetrius had finished his porridge, and Sharon was cleaning up.
Watching her calm profile, he pressed his lips together and said in a low voice, "I have a meeting at the company later. I'll come see Demetrius tomorrow."
"Okay," Sharon replied, barely looking up.
Seb didn't care about Sharon's cold attitude and quickly left.
Early the next morning, Rufus brought breakfast for Demetrius and Sharon.
Seeing Rufus, Sharon said, "Mr. Warren, it's a long way from the company. You don't need to bring us food anymore. I can just grab something nearby."
Rufus hesitated, "I'll check with Mr. Smith about that."
"No need, I'll tell him when he comes to see Demetrius."
"Alright."
After breakfast, Sharon started working on lab stuff on her phone.
She worked for over two hours and finally got most of it done.
Putting down her phone, she noticed Demetrius glancing at the door now and then.
Sharon lowered her gaze, staying quiet.
She knew that even though Demetrius said he didn't like Seb, his eyes still showed a longing when he looked at him.
After all, Demetrius was just a four-year-old kid who had never seen his dad and naturally wanted to get close.
After thinking for a bit, Sharon made up her mind.
When Seb arrived, Demetrius was napping.
Sharon lowered her voice, "I need to talk to you."
Seb looked surprised, "About what?"
"Let's talk outside."
Outside the room, Sharon looked at him and said calmly, "Mr. Smith, let's try to get along for now. Even if we argue, let's not do it in front of Demetrius. I don't want to hurt his feelings."
Seb looked at her silently, his deep eyes giving nothing away.
Seeing him just staring at her, Sharon frowned, "Mr. Smith, are you listening to me?"
"Alright, I get it," Seb replied.
Sharon was surprised by how quickly he agreed.
She thought he'd put up a fight and had a bunch of arguments ready, but now they seemed pointless.
"That's all," she said.
As Sharon turned to go back inside, Seb suddenly said, "Rufus told me you said not to bring food anymore?"
"Yeah, I'll just buy something nearby."
If Seb hadn't mentioned it, she would've forgotten about it.
"I don't trust outside food. Rufus commuting between the company and the hospital does affect his work. I'll have a servant bring food every day."
"No need, the food nearby is fine."
Seb looked at her with a blank face, his eyes making it clear he wasn't up for debate. "Ms. Roach, I have my principles, and I don't want to argue over such trivial matters."
Sharon pressed her lips together and nodded, "Alright."
They walked back into the room, one after the other. Demetrius was already awake. When he saw Seb behind Sharon, his eyes lit up but then he quickly turned away, trying to look all tough.
Seb sat by the bed, looking serious. "How are you today? Does your arm still hurt?"
"None of your business!" Demetrius snapped.
Seb was used to this attitude by now. He reached out to touch Demetrius's head.
"Don't touch me!" Demetrius dodged his hand, glaring at him.
Seeing Demetrius act like a typical kid around Seb made Sharon feel a bit sad.
Maybe because he never had a dad around, Demetrius always acted so grown-up in front of her and never threw fits.
Seb couldn't help but raise an eyebrow and reached out to touch him again. "What if I insist on touching you?"
Demetrius looked annoyed. "Arguing with a kid, you don't act like an adult at all!"
Sharon was surprised too; she'd never seen Seb act so childish.
Seb seemed a bit taken aback by his own behavior, a flash of embarrassment crossing his face before he went back to his usual cold self.
Since Seb had a meeting in the afternoon, he didn't stay long and got up to leave.
"Demetrius, I'll come to see you tomorrow," Seb said.
Demetrius ignored him, looking indifferent, but his eyes followed Seb, clearly not wanting him to go.
Seb noticed and smiled slightly. "I'm leaving now."
For the next week, Sharon stayed in the hospital with Demetrius.
When his other minor injuries healed, the doctor finally discharged him.
"Ms. Roach, even though he's discharged, he still needs to be careful at home. Come back in a month to check the bone healing. If it heals well, the cast can come off in a month," the doctor advised.
Sharon nodded, paying close attention to the doctor's instructions.
After getting the medication, Sharon held Demetrius's hand and walked out of the hospital. Seb had already arranged for a driver to wait at the entrance.
As Sharon helped Demetrius into the car, an excited voice called out from behind. "Sharon, you're really still alive!"
Even after more than five years, Sharon immediately recognized Alex's voice.
She turned around, her face expressionless. "Alex, I don't think we're on greeting terms. If we meet again, please pretend you don't know me."
Seeing the cold look on Sharon's face, Alex froze for a moment, looking awkward.
The Sharon before him looked almost unchanged from five years ago, her gaze still full of undisguised loathing.
Alex took a couple of steps forward but stopped when he saw Sharon's wary expression.
"Sharon, I know I wronged you before. When I heard you fell into the sea five years ago, I regretted it deeply. If I hadn't cheated, we wouldn't have—"
"Enough!" Sharon cut him off coldly. "I don't want to hear you memories. They mean nothing to me. I'm doing well now, so please, just leave me alone."
With that, she got into the car and told the driver to leave.
Alex watched the car disappear, his hands clenching unconsciously.
He had missed Sharon once; he wouldn't miss her a second time!
