Chapter 426 Are you afraid something might happen between Daniel and me?

Derek and Edith had been hitched for ages, and it was always Derek who put up with Edith's antics.

Edith was used to being the boss around Derek and never backed down. What really got under Edith's skin was Derek actually slapping her in front of a servant.

As her words hung in the air, everything went dead silent. Derek's look at her wasn't soft anymore; it was full of exhaustion and disappointment.

A wave of unease hit Edith. She thought threatening divorce would make Derek apologize, but his look said otherwise.

Edith stammered, "Derek, you..."

Derek cut her off, "Fine, you want a divorce? Let's get a divorce."

Edith stood there, stunned, eyes wide with shock. She was just mad, and he took it seriously?

Realizing it, Edith felt her anger flare up. He hit her, and now he was acting all tough and unapologetic?

Edith snapped, "Fine! You said it! Don't regret it!"

With that, she stormed off, face red with fury.

Derek watched her leave, not saying a word until she drove off.

Once Edith's car was gone, Derek turned to the servant at The Lee Villa, "Please go inside and tell them I'm here to apologize and hope Mr. Lee and Ms. Lee will see me."

Seeing his sincere attitude, the servant replied flatly, "I'll pass the message, but they might not want to see you."

Derek nodded, "I get it, thanks."

The servant turned and headed into the villa's living room. Sophie and Maria were chatting inside. Seeing the servant, Sophie asked coolly, "Did you send him away?"

The servant stepped forward, "Ms. Lee, it looks like the Carr family is serious about apologizing. Mr. Carr and Mrs. Carr were arguing at the door. Mrs. Carr didn't want Mr. Carr to apologize, and he even slapped her. They even went so far as to divorce. Now Mr. Carr is still at the door, asking me to tell you and Mr. Lee that he wants to apologize."

Sophie’s expression didn’t change. She set down her teacup, "Tell him I won't agree to reconcile, and he shouldn't waste his time."

The servant said, "But Mr. Carr seems determined to wait."

Sophie gave a faint smile, "If he wants to wait, let him wait."

The servant nodded, "Okay, I'll tell him right away."

Hearing Sophie wouldn’t see him, Derek looked grim, "Alright, thanks."

The door of The Lee Villa shut in his face, snuffing out his last bit of hope.

His secretary stepped up, "Mr. Carr, let's go back. There's still a lot to handle at the company."

Derek was silent for a long time before shaking his head, "I'll wait here. Dealing with those things now won't change the company's situation."

Derek had to stay until Sophie agreed to see him; only then could the Carr Group have a shot at being saved.

The secretary sighed inwardly and didn’t push further.

Derek knew better than anyone that even if he saw Sophie, it might not change anything. But this was his only shot. Even knowing it was a long shot, he had to keep waiting. By evening, the door of The Lee Villa finally swung open again.

Sophie drove out in her white BMW, surprised to see Derek still waiting there. Derek was indeed a persistent guy, way more patient than Edith.

As soon as he saw Sophie's car, Derek rushed to the front of it.

The secretary's face went pale, "Mr. Carr!"

Sophie was startled too and slammed on the brakes. Luckily, she wasn't going fast, and the car stopped just inches from Derek.

The secretary ran over, still shaken, "Mr. Carr, are you okay?"

Derek nodded, "I'm fine."

He kept his eyes on Sophie, and said calmly, "Ms. Lee, I need to talk to you."

Sophie got out of the car, looking at him coldly, "Mr. Carr, I have nothing to say to you. Please move."

Derek insisted, "Ms. Lee, I just want to apologize."

Sophie sneered, "This morning, your wife came to mock me, and now you're here to apologize? Are you two playing games with me?"

Derek replied, "Ms. Lee, I'm sorry for my wife's behavior this morning. As for Dwayne, he committed a crime and should face the consequences. Whatever the court decides, I won't object."

Sophie said, "Since you're so righteous, Mr. Carr, there's nothing more to say. I've received your apology. Now, please leave."

Derek didn't budge, "Ms. Lee, I came to ask you for one more thing."

Sophie sighed, "I don't think I can help you, Mr. Carr. Find someone else."

Derek said, "Ms. Lee, only you can help me with this."

Impatience flashed in Sophie's eyes, "What is it?"

Her fingers tapped on the steering wheel, showing her growing impatience.

Derek explained, "Mr. Thomas is targeting the Carr Group because of Dwayne's actions. I hope you can talk to Mr. Thomas and ask him to spare the Carr Group. I can offer you half of the Carr Group's shares in return."

Losing half of the Carr Group's shares hurt Derek, but it was better than going bankrupt.

Sophie was taken aback, her brows furrowing, "You mean Daniel is targeting the Carr Group because of me?"

Derek nodded, "Yes, Ms. Lee. If you ask Mr. Thomas to spare the Carr Group, I'll transfer half of the shares to you right now."

Sophie asked, "Are you sure you're willing to give me the shares?"

Derek replied, "Absolutely. The share transfer agreement is ready."

He glanced at his lawyer, who quickly pulled out the document from his briefcase and handed it to Sophie.

Sophie opened it and saw the share transfer agreement for half of the Carr Group's shares.

Derek said, "Ms. Lee, I've already signed and stamped it. It takes effect as soon as you sign."

After skimming through the document, Sophie made up her mind.

Shares handed to her on a silver platter? Why not take them?

Sophie closed the document and looked at Derek, "Mr. Carr, since you're so sincere, I'll consider it."

Derek said, "Ms. Lee, if you don't contact Mr. Thomas soon, the Carr Group could go bankrupt any moment."

Sophie looked up at him, her eyes cold, "That's your problem, Mr. Carr. If you want to make a deal with me, then try not to let the Carr Group go under before I talk to Daniel."

Derek's face darkened, but needing Sophie's help, he kept his anger in check. If he really pissed off Sophie and she refused to talk to Daniel, the Carr Group would be toast.

He forced a smile, "Alright, I hope you can contact Mr. Thomas soon. After all, the Carr Group now has half of your shares."

Sophie smirked, "I know, Mr. Carr. I have other matters to attend to. Could you please move aside?"

Derek nodded and stepped aside.

Sophie got into her car and drove off. She had planned to visit Sharon, but changed her mind and headed straight to The Thomas Villa.

When she pulled up at The Thomas Villa, a servant quickly came to open the door. "Ms. Lee, Mr. Thomas is waiting for you in the living room."

Sophie sneered, it seemed he knew she would come.

She stepped into the living room and saw Daniel sitting on the sofa, smiling at her. Sophie also smiled and walked directly to sit opposite him. "Daniel, didn't I tell you that I don't want any connection with you and don't want to see you again?"

Though she was smiling, her eyes were cold, filled with disgust.

Daniel was used to her attitude by now and didn't show any panic. Instead, he leisurely poured her a cup of tea. "Sophie, I can't stand seeing others bully you, so I stepped in to help. Is that wrong?"

Sophie took the tea he handed over and poured it directly into the trash can. "I don't need your hypocritical kindness."

Daniel raised an eyebrow, "Hypocritical? And Randy is sincere to you?"

Sophie replied, "At least he's much more sincere than you."

Her defense of Randy made the smile on Daniel's face fade a bit. "If Randy were truly sincere, how could he watch the Lee Group near bankruptcy without helping? How could he do nothing after knowing you were almost bullied by Dwayne? If your so-called sincerity is just some cost-free gestures, then he is indeed very sincere to you!"

His sarcastic tone made Sophie frown. "What right do you have to judge him? At least he wouldn't cheat on me or repeatedly disappoint me."

Daniel was silent for a moment, looking at Sophie, "I made a mistake five years ago, but since then, I haven't touched another woman. I just didn't realize my feelings at the time. You can't cut off our relationship because of one mistake."

Sophie sneered, "I won't give you another chance. If you make another mistake in the future, it would be my own fault for being foolish."

Daniel retorted, "I won't make any more mistakes. That's just your malicious assumption."

Sophie chuckled, "Don't you get it? Whether you make mistakes or not, I won't give you another chance. Stop doing useless things. I don't need them. And don't mess with the Carr Group anymore."

With that, Sophie turned and left.

Watching her back, Daniel slowly curved his lips into a smile. "Sophie, since you trust Randy so much, let's see if he can resist temptation."

Sophie's steps suddenly halted, and she turned to look at Daniel with disgust, "Daniel, the more you do, the more I will despise you. If you dare to do anything to Randy, I won't let you off!"

When Daniel saw her defend Randy so much, the smile on his face instantly turned cold.

Daniel stood up and walked towards Sophie step by step, exuding a dangerous aura. "Sophie, if you keep defending Randy, I can't guarantee what I might do."

Sophie looked up at him coldly, without a trace of fear in her eyes, "Do whatever you want. I don't care and I'm not afraid. But don't think I'll come back to you."As soon as she finished speaking, Daniel suddenly grabbed her chin and leaned in.

The distance between them vanished, and Daniel could clearly smell the rose scent on her.His Adam's apple bobbed twice, and his breathing became noticeably heavier.

However, Sophie just looked at him with a blank expression, her eyes devoid of any emotion, as if she were looking at a complete stranger.

Once, her gaze at him was full of love and tenderness. As long as he turned around, he could always see her at a glance.

But now, he could no longer find any trace of her love for him in her eyes.

A sharp pain suddenly spread from Daniel's heart to his limbs, and his fingers holding her chin trembled slightly.

If he had realized his feelings earlier, he wouldn't have lost her.

Sophie said, "Daniel, don't look at me with that guilty expression. I will only despise you."

If Daniel had decisively broken up with Sophie instead of getting involved with another woman, Sophie wouldn't despise him so much.

Wavering between two relationships, wanting both, was the most disgusting behavior.

Because Sophie felt that her choice was terrible, falling for such an irresponsible Daniel.

Daniel's grip on her chin tightened unconsciously, his eyes filled with turmoil, "Sophie."

Suddenly, the phone on the table rang, interrupting him.

He released Sophie and said in a low voice, "You should go back. We have plenty of time in the future."

After saying that, he turned and walked quickly towards the sofa. Sophie didn't care about his sudden change in attitude and left directly.

Daniel picked up the phone and answered, "What is it?"

The other end of the call replied, "The sample you sent didn't yield any DNA. It's best to get a hair sample or something similar."

Daniel lowered his eyes and said in a low voice, "Alright, I understand."

The other end of the call said, "Hurry up. They're getting impatient."

Daniel replied, "Got it."

Hanging up the phone, Daniel frowned, thinking about how to get Sharon's hair.

On the other side, as soon as Sophie walked out of The Thomas Villa, a black Mercedes suddenly appeared in front of her.

The driver's door opened, and Randy got out of the car.

"Why are you here?" Sophie looked surprised. She hadn't told anyone she was coming here, so how did Randy know?

Randy looked at her calmly, "Sophie, before I answer your question, shouldn't you explain why you came to The Thomas Villa to see Daniel after you said you wouldn't have any more contact with him?"

Randy's questioning tone and expression made Sophie's face darken. "Did you rush over here just to question me?"

Randy didn't speak, clearly confirming her suspicion.

Sophie felt a bit disappointed. She thought Randy would trust her as much as she trusted him, but it was obvious that wasn't the case.

Randy didn't believe she no longer had feelings for Daniel, nor did he believe her when she said she would never rekindle their old relationship.

The two fell into silence, neither speaking.

After a long while, Sophie finally spoke, "Randy, I came here today because Mr. Carr came to see me. He told me that Daniel was targeting the Carr Group because of me. I came to deal with this matter."

Then Sophie continued, "I told you before that I wouldn't have any more feelings for Daniel, but you clearly don't believe me. Did you rush over here because you're afraid something might happen between me and Daniel?"
