Chapter 439 Just Stay by My Side
After dinner, Sharon played with Demetrius for a bit before asking Dana to take him upstairs for a bath and bed. She grabbed a book and settled on the sofa, waiting for Seb.
Meanwhile, Ariana showed up at the police station but couldn't find Kirk. She tried to get some info but hit a dead end. Feeling helpless, she headed back home. Tossing and turning throughout the night, she hardly closed her eyes. When she got up the next morning, she felt dizzy.
At the office, Sharon noticed her dark circles and asked, "Rough night?"
Ariana nodded. "Yeah."
Sharon probed, "Is it about Kirk?"
Ariana hesitated, then nodded. "I didn't see him last night. I have no idea what's going on."
Sharon was quiet for a moment, then frowned. "Ariana, don't you think you're a bit too worried about Kirk?"
Ariana replied, "Sharon, he saved me twice. I can't just ignore it now that he's in trouble."
Sharon sighed, "Even if you want to help, you can't."
She had asked Seb about it last night, and Kirk was suspected of embezzling a huge amount of the company's pharmaceutical research funds, which could land him in prison for life.
Ariana's face went pale. "Sharon, I know. I just want to do what I can."
Sharon comforted her, "Some things you can try your best at, but sometimes it won't make a difference. If he needs anything, send it to him, but other than that, there's not much you can do."
Ariana lowered her eyes and said slowly, "Okay, I get it. Thanks, Sharon."
With Kirk gone, no one was managing his team, so Sharon stepped in temporarily, making her even busier. She didn't get home as late as Seb, but it was still after 8 PM.
Seb, though swamped, knew about Sharon's overtime and quickly arranged for someone to take over Kirk's work.
In less than three days, a new team leader arrived for Kirk's team. The new leader was a woman, about Sharon's age, from the North, with a straightforward personality. The work coordination between the two teams was much smoother than when Kirk was in charge.
During dinner, Sharon found out that Seb had talked to HR, which was why a new team leader was assigned so quickly, and she was surprised.
She had thought Seb was a by-the-book guy and wouldn't bend the rules for her. But at the same time, she felt a bit touched.
That evening, Seb didn't work overtime for once, and they went home together. Even without overtime, Seb was still reading a document in the car. It wasn't until they reached the villa's entrance that Seb put down the document.
They got out of the car and walked inside together. Sharon couldn't help but say, "You've been so busy lately. Demetrius said he hasn't seen you in a while, and he misses you."
Seb felt a pang of guilt and decided to take a day off on Sunday to spend time with Demetrius and Sharon.
Seb said, "It'll get better soon."
Sharon said, "I just think you're working too hard, but I can't help much."
Seb turned to look at her and said softly, "You don't need to do anything; just stay by my side."
He would handle everything else.
Facing his gentle eyes, Sharon blushed and quickly looked away.
Seb raised an eyebrow, a smile in his eyes, "Sharon, we've been together for so long, why are you still so easily shy?"
Sharon rolled her eyes at him. "Do you think everyone is as shameless as you?"
