Chapter 280 Getting a Paternity Test
Paul clammed up, scared stiff by Seb's outburst, not daring to peep another word.
In the middle of the showdown, Demetrius tugged on Sharon's sleeve, whispering, "Mom, I'm scared."
Sharon's heart ached as she hugged Demetrius tight, shooting a frosty glare at Seb. "Mr. Smith, you scared Demetrius."
Seb saw the fear in Demetrius's eyes, feeling a tiny pang in his chest, but he kept his stern face on.
Zachary stayed icy, his presence heavy and intimidating. "Mr. Smith, if you don't explain yourself today, this ain't over."
Seb's face turned darker. He didn't take Zachary's threat seriously, but with Demetrius there, he didn't want to make a scene.
After a beat, Seb finally spoke up. "We'll hold off on the paternity test for now, but Sharon, I'm gonna get to the bottom of this. If Demetrius is my kid, no way am I letting him stay with a woman like you!"
Sharon was floored, anger bubbling up inside her.
She'd given birth to Demetrius and raised him all by herself. Who did Seb think he was to talk to her like that?
Sharon glared at Seb, her voice shaking with rage. "Mr. Smith, you're so used to looking down on people, you think you can just judge their lives. But what do you really know about me?"
Zachary stepped in front of Sharon and Demetrius, glaring daggers at Seb. "Seb, don't push it! You have no idea what Sharon's been through all these years."
Seb's face stayed cold. "Her struggles mean nothing to me. All I care about is if the kid by her side is mine."
Sharon had cooled down, her eyes icy as she looked at Seb. "Mr. Smith, my life has nothing to do with you. Stay away from Demetrius, or you'll regret it."
Demetrius clung to Sharon's leg, glaring at Seb with disgust. "You're a bad man. I hate you! Stay away from me and my mom!"
Demetrius's face was full of anger. To him, Seb was so awful that even if he was his dad, he wouldn't acknowledge him.
Seeing Demetrius's angry face, Seb was taken aback.
Even when mad, Demetrius looked just like him. It made Seb even more suspicious that Demetrius was his kid.
"Bad man! I hate you!" Demetrius shouted, his eyes blazing with anger.
Zachary looked at Seb, his face cold. "Seb, that's enough for today. Don't come bothering Sharon and Demetrius again."
Seb's eyes were dark. "That's not your call. For Demetrius's sake, I won't argue now, but I have plenty of ways to find out if he's my kid!"
With that, he turned and walked away.
Watching him leave, Sharon was fuming. She regretted ever falling for someone as awful as Seb.
Zachary hugged her gently. "Sharon, don't worry. I won't let him hurt you or Demetrius. Trust me."
Sharon nodded. "Okay, Zachary, thank you."
"Didn't I tell you to stop thanking me? How could you forget?"
Sharon bit her lip. "Alright, I get it."
"Let's head back."
Demetrius was still shaken by what happened. He hadn't expected Sharon to show up so fast, or for Seb, who he thought was his dad, to be so mean and bully his mom.
Seeing Demetrius's pale face, Sharon couldn't bring herself to scold him. After all, it was her fault for keeping Seb a secret, which made Demetrius go looking for answers.
"Let's bounce."
Sharon grabbed Demetrius's hand and left with Zachary.
Back at the office, Seb shot a cold look at Paul. "You've been snooping around Sharon and her kid because you think Demetrius is mine?"
Paul clenched his teeth, knowing he couldn't hide it anymore, and nodded. "Yeah."
Seb pressed on, "We just look alike. Why'd you think he's my kid? You've been with me for years; you know all the women I've been with."
Seb's stare pinned Paul in place, giving him no room to wiggle out.
It was only because he connected Paul's digging into Demetrius that he thought the kid might be his.
But he was sure he didn't know Sharon; she had never crossed his path before.
Suddenly, Seb's expression shifted.
He'd lost his memory for a few months after a car accident. Tyler had said he was in a coma for a few months because of the accident, which was why he lost his memory.
Could something have happened during that time?
Thinking about it, his face grew even darker.
He asked, "Did I lose my memory because of the car accident?"
Facing Seb's icy eyes, Paul felt a pang of guilt and instinctively looked away. "Yeah."
Seb sneered. "Paul, you know my temper. If I find out you're lying, don't think you'll stick around Silvercrest Group."
In that moment, Paul thought of many things. He thought of Tyler threatening his family, Zachary telling him not to mess up everyone's lives, and Seb's despair before he lost his memory.
Ultimately, Zachary's words echoed in his ears.
He really shouldn't mess up everyone's lives or bother Sharon again.
After a few seconds of silence, he looked up at Seb, his eyes filled with determination. "Mr. Smith, you lost your memory because of the car accident. You and Ms. Roach have never met. Demetrius just looks like you; he can't be your kid."
Seb shot back coldly, "I'll find out myself. It's not your call."
"Mr. Smith." Paul was about to explain more.
"Enough. Get out!"
Paul was silent for a moment, then turned and left. It seemed his days at Silvercrest Group were numbered.
From the moment he agreed to lie to Seb for Tyler, he knew this day would come.
After Paul left, Seb dialed a number.
"I need a paternity test with Sharon's kid, Demetrius. Find a way to get his hair."
Emory Myles's complaining voice came through the other end. "Seb, you're out of line. You hung up on me earlier, and now you need my help again. What am I, your personal assistant?"
Seb replied calmly, "Your company can join the amusement park project, but only if you get this done for me."
As soon as he finished speaking, Emory's tone turned excited. "Don't worry! I'll get it done in three days!"
Seb hung up and tossed his phone on the table, his eyes narrowing slowly.
