Chapter 591 I Will Never Let You Worry Again

Mary's face went white. "What did you do to Darcy?"

She glared at Carolyn, her eyes blazing with anger.

Carolyn chuckled. "Oh, nothing major. Just sent him back to where he belongs."

"But you seem so worried about him. Makes people wonder if something is going on between you two."

Mary's face twisted with rage. "Carolyn, cut the crap! There's nothing between Darcy and me!"

Carolyn raised an eyebrow. "Chill out, I was just saying. Now that Darcy's out of the picture, no one in the Stoll family will back you. You'd better stop dreaming about Ewan inheriting the family. The best you can do is take care of Jeremy. When he passes, I'll give you some money to leave with Ewan."

"But if you try anything stupid, don't blame me for being ruthless."

Mary clenched her teeth. "Carolyn, you won't be smug for long. When Jeremy gets better, he won't let you off."

Carolyn was unfazed. "We'll see about that."

Whether Jeremy would recover was still up in the air.

After meeting with Mary, Carolyn returned to the estate in high spirits.

As soon as she arrived, the butler approached her. "Mrs. Stoll, Dash is here. He's waiting for you in the living room."

Carolyn nodded. "Got it."

She walked into the living room and saw Dash sitting on the couch, looking annoyed. Carolyn sat down across from him, her expression unchanged.

"Dash, what brings you here?"

Dash sneered. "Carolyn, don't tell me you've forgotten our deal. If you don't get that land back or find a new one within a month, I'm done supporting you."

Carolyn's face fell. "Dash, you should know that Gareth lost a leg in a car accident down south. He went there to find land!"

"While I was in the south, Darcy sent people to the estate to kidnap my two daughters and secretly gathered support within the Stoll family to have Ewan replace me. You know about that, too, right?"

Dash nodded. "I know, but what does that have to do with me? If Gareth hadn't clashed with the Bermad Family, we wouldn't have lost the land, and he wouldn't have had to go south."

"So, Gareth losing a leg was his own fault and had nothing to do with anyone else."

"As for Darcy kidnapping your daughters, that's a personal grudge between you two. You didn't handle it well, and you expect me to clean up your mess? Carolyn, don't forget, I support you, but I'm not your lackey or your slave."

Dash's eyes were cold. If Carolyn thought she could pin these issues on him, she was sorely mistaken.

These matters had nothing to do with him.

Dash stood up and adjusted his suit. "Carolyn, you have two weeks left. If you can't give me a satisfactory answer, I'll go back someone else. And I'm not Darcy, so don't think you can deal with me the same way you dealt with him."

With that, Dash turned and left.

Watching Dash's retreating figure, Carolyn's face turned grim. She swept the water glass off the table, shattering it on the floor.

The porcelain cup broke into pieces, and water spilled everywhere.

Carolyn stared at the broken shards, her eyes filled with anger.

The butler walked into the living room, unfazed by the mess. He looked at Carolyn. "Mrs. Stoll, Gareth is awake."

A hint of joy appeared on Carolyn's previously grim face. She quickly got up and headed to Gareth's room.

Before following her, the butler turned to the trembling maid. "Clean up the mess."

"Yes, madam."

Once the butler and Carolyn were out of sight, the maid finally breathed a sigh of relief and hurried to get cleaning supplies.

Carolyn soon reached Gareth's room.

Gareth was sitting up, eating porridge, his face pale and full of despair.

Since waking up, Gareth had realized something was wrong—his right leg was gone.

Carolyn walked to the bedside and took the bowl from the maid. "Let me do it."

She scooped a spoonful of porridge and brought it to Gareth's mouth, but he shook his head. "I'm full. I don't want to eat anymore."

Seeing Gareth turn away with a cold expression, Carolyn felt a pang of sadness.

"Gareth, I know losing a leg is hard to accept, but with modern medicine, you can get a prosthetic. It'll be just like having a real leg."

Gareth laughed bitterly, his face full of mockery. "Just like a real leg? How could it be the same? Everyone knows I've lost a leg. They won't let me inherit the Stoll family."

"If I had known this would happen, you shouldn't have saved me when the Bermad Family captured me! Then I wouldn't have lost my leg!"

Carolyn frowned and replied coldly, "Do you think they would have let you go if I hadn't saved you? The Bermad Family said if I didn't give up the land, they would release you, missing an arm or a leg."

Gareth smiled bitterly. "It would have been better if you hadn't agreed to their terms. Now I've lost a leg, and we still lost the land. It was all for nothing."

Carolyn frowned. "No one could have predicted this. If I hadn't saved you, and the Bermad Family did something to you, you would have blamed me for not saving you, thinking I valued the Stoll family more than you."

Hearing Carolyn's angry words, Gareth gritted his teeth and said coldly, "I want to be alone. Please leave."

He turned his back on Carolyn, clearly not wanting to talk to her anymore.

Watching Gareth's desolate figure, Carolyn felt both heartache and helplessness. She sighed and left.

Carolyn stood outside Gareth's room for a while, listening to his suppressed sobs, her heart aching.

When Gareth was born, she and Jeremy were very close, so she had poured a lot of love into Gareth.

Of her three children, Gareth was her favorite.

But now, her favorite child had lost a leg because of a conspiracy and would never be the same again.

Carolyn knew that a prosthetic leg was not the same as a real one, but she could only suppress her pain and sadness to comfort Gareth.

When the sobbing inside finally stopped, Carolyn left with red-rimmed eyes.

Back in her study, Carolyn immediately called Gage. "Find out who planned Gareth's car accident as soon as possible!"

Gage's serious voice came through the phone. "Yes, Mrs. Stoll. I'll find the culprit as soon as possible. By the way, there's something else I need to report."

"What is it?"

"Seb and Sharon have been missing since they left Mr. Bermad's estate. They haven't been seen anywhere, so finding them might be difficult."

"Keep looking. I don't believe they can just disappear!"

"Yes, Mrs. Stoll."

After hanging up, Carolyn suppressed her frustration and picked up a document to continue reading.

Meanwhile, in the hospital room, Jeremy slowly opened his eyes.

Mary, who had been on the phone with Ewan, telling him to pack up and prepare to leave, noticed the movement and turned around in disbelief. She saw Jeremy's eyes slightly open, staring at her.

Mary covered her mouth with her hand, her eyes instantly red. "Jeremy! You're awake?"

On the other end of the line, Ewan's voice became excited. "Mom, is Dad awake?"

"Yes, Ewan, come to the hospital right away!"

Mary quickly hung up and pressed the call button, holding Jeremy's hand. "Jeremy, you finally woke up!"

During Jeremy's coma, if it hadn't been for Darcy and the people he left to protect them, Carolyn would have bullied them even more.

Now that Jeremy was awake, as long as he recovered, they wouldn't have to fear Carolyn anymore.

Jeremy blinked and tried to wipe her tears, but he was too weak from being in a coma. His fingers barely moved.

Soon, the doctor arrived.

After examining Jeremy, the doctor said, "Mary, Jeremy's vital signs are stable. With proper care, he should be able to leave the hospital in about two weeks."

Mary could hardly believe her ears. When Jeremy was critically ill, Darcy insisted on transferring him to this hospital and had the chief surgeon operate on him.

Although the surgery was successful, the chief surgeon said Jeremy had only a fifty percent chance of waking up.

Mary had almost lost hope, but Jeremy woke up at her most desperate moment.

After the doctor left, Jeremy sat up with Mary's help, looking at her with concern. "You've been through a lot. You look so worn out."

Mary unconsciously touched her face. "Do I look much worse?"

"No, to me, you'll always be the most beautiful."

Mary couldn't help but roll her eyes at Jeremy. "You always know how to make me happy. Do you know how scared I was while you were unconscious? What would Ewan and I do if something happened to you?"

Jeremy smiled and held her hand, his voice filled with guilt. "I'm sorry. I won't let you worry like that again."
