Chapter 159 Could You Have Seen It Wrong?
Seb gently patted her head and whispered, "I guess I still have work to do if I haven't earned your trust yet."
Sharon looked up, about to speak, when Seb's phone rang.
"Did you change your ringtone?" she asked, noticing it sounded different.
Seb didn't respond, just picked up the phone and walked away to answer it.
Sharon felt a sudden unease and furrowed her brows.
Seb soon hung up and came back. "I have something to handle. You should go to sleep."
As he turned to leave, Sharon instinctively grabbed his hand. "Is it important? Can you stay with me?"
She wondered if she should tell him about her anxiety but felt it sounded silly.
Seb's eyes darkened, and he nodded slightly. "If you're scared, I'll have the driver bring Sophie over."
Sharon shook her head slowly. "No need, just come back early."
Sensing something was off, Seb hugged her tightly. "Don't overthink it. Get some rest."
"Okay," she replied.
Seb quickly left, and Sharon watched him go, feeling uneasy about his new ringtone. His old one was the default, but tonight's was a piano piece, usually reserved for important contacts.
She took a deep breath, trying to stop overthinking, and turned on the TV to pass the time.
She waited until past midnight, but Seb didn't return. She fell asleep on the couch.
When she woke up, it was past six in the morning. She noticed a blanket covering her and wondered if Seb had come back.
Carol Martinez walked up. "Ms. Wright, you're awake?"
Sharon nodded. "Where's Seb?"
"Mr. Smith didn't come back last night."
Disappointed, Sharon forced a smile. "So you covered me with the blanket?"
Carol nodded. "Yes, I saw you asleep on the couch and didn't want to wake you. I was afraid you'd catch a cold."
"Thank you," Sharon said, feeling downcast.
"It's okay," Carol replied.
Sharon got up, washed up, and had a quick breakfast before driving to the office.
Downstairs, she got a call from Mark. Upon hearing that Sharon agreed to the settlement, Mark said, "Okay, I'll handle the follow-up."
"Thank you," Sharon replied.
She hesitated to call Seb but eventually dialed his number. The call went unanswered until it disconnected. She tried two more times with no luck.
It wasn't until noon that Seb called her back.
"Sharon, you called this morning. What's up?"
Sharon lowered her eyes. "Nothing. You didn't come back last night, so I wanted to check in."
There was a pause before Seb's deep voice came through. "Almost done. I'll be back tonight."
Sharon's grip on the phone tightened. "Okay, let's have dinner together tonight."
"Alright, see you then."
After hanging up, Seb looked at Grace Hall, who was sitting across from him with tears in her eyes. "Grace, it's over between us. I'll book you a flight later."
Grace paused, looking up at Seb with tearful eyes. "I don't want to leave. I didn't plan to when I came back."
Seb's brows furrowed, his tone cold. "Do as you wish, but we're over."
If she hadn't insisted on going abroad back then, she wouldn't have broken up with Seb and given Sharon a chance.
Now that she had achieved what she wanted, she was determined to win Seb back.
"If you didn't care, you wouldn't have come last night. You still love me, don't you?" Grace cried, her eyes full of love and regret.
Seb sighed. "I came because I didn't want you to hurt yourself. We once loved each other, but from the moment you said goodbye, we were over."
"No!" Grace cried, throwing herself into Seb's arms. "We never ended. I just wanted to be better for you. You knew that, and you didn't say no when I asked you to wait."
Seb pushed her away, his expression cold. "It's all in the past."
He turned to leave, but Grace chased after him, hugging his waist. "Seb, don't go!"
Seb looked down at her hands, emotions swirling in his eyes. Just as he was about to push her away, Grace's next words made him freeze.
In the evening, Sharon returned to the villa and learned Seb hadn't come back yet. She wanted to call him but remembered he said he'd be back tonight. She hesitated and put down her phone.
Carol walked up. "Ms. Wright, dinner is ready."
Sharon nodded. "Seb is coming back tonight. We'll wait for him."
"Okay."
They waited until past eight in the evening.
Suddenly, Sharon's phone vibrated. Her eyes lit up, but it wasn't Seb. Disappointment washed over her.
She answered, and Sophie's voice came through. "Sharon, I saw Seb tonight. He was having dinner with a woman at a romantic restaurant."
Sharon's heart sank. "Are you sure?"
Sophie sighed. "I took a photo. I'll send it to you."
After hanging up, Sophie quickly sent the photo.
Sharon's hands trembled as she zoomed in. The moment she saw it, her grip on the phone turned white. The unease she felt since last night finally settled.
Her heart felt like it was being squeezed, and her breathing became heavier.
