Chapter 11 I'll Take You Home

Susan looked at Irene, frowned, and asked, "What's going on? You're usually the one who's super detail-oriented."

Irene hurriedly poured out the reaction bottle with the wrong reagent, looking guilty. "Susan, I got distracted just now. I'm really sorry."

Since Irene was usually quite reliable, Susan didn't blame her too much, just reminded her to be more careful next time. She ordered, "Irene, you have a lot of lab experience. Have Sharon work with you first. Make sure to go over the lab safety rules with her and help her get the hang of things quickly."

Irene lowered her head, a hint of disdain in her eyes. "Okay."

After giving the instructions, Susan left.

Irene turned to Sharon, a fake smile on her lips. "Sharon, I didn't expect you to work here too. I saw you at the company entrance a few days ago and couldn't believe it."

Sharon didn't hide the disgust in her eyes, looking at her calmly without responding. "What do I need to do today?"

Irene's smile became a bit stiff, biting her lip as she looked at her, somewhat aggrieved. "Sharon, are you still mad at me? With the problems at Robert Pharmaceuticals, and the Robinson family can't be involved."

The surrounding colleagues seemed to notice the subtle tension between Irene and Sharon, and everyone became curious.

Sharon said, "Ms. Robinson, I'm here to work, not to reminisce about the past. Besides, you just added the wrong reagent, and the experiment needs to start over. If we don't hurry, the whole lab will have to work overtime because of your mistake."

Seeing the strange looks from the colleagues around, Irene was furious inside, not expecting Sharon to become so sharp-tongued over the years.

However, Irene's smile didn't fade, her voice as gentle as a ripple. "You just got here, so there's not much work for you to do. Why don't you start by washing these reagent bottles?"

Following Irene's finger, Sharon saw a pile of about eighty reagent bottles in the corner, clearly accumulated by the entire lab.

Seeing Sharon silently staring at the bottles, Irene's smile grew more triumphant. As long as Sharon refused, she could complain about her, and Susan would dislike her.

However, Sharon didn't say a word, turning to walk towards the corner with the reagent bottles.

Irene watched her back, a cold smile appearing on her lips. She thought, 'Now that I control the situation, Sharon will surely regret working at Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals.'

Sharon washed until nine in the evening, finally cleaning all the reagent bottles. When she put down the brush, she felt a pain in her lower back.

A few days ago, Sophie had something come up and couldn't go out for dinner, so Sharon thought of inviting Sophie for a late-night snack tonight, but Sophie refused, "I got a date with my boyfriend tonight, and since you just moved out, you must have a lot of expenses. Let's wait until you get your paycheck."

Sharon knew Sophie was being considerate, and her heart felt warm. After a brief chat with Sophie, she hung up the phone. Although she had lost love, her friendship and family still existed, which was enough to restore her hope in life.

Sharon didn't feel like grabbing a late-night snack by herself. While the supermarket was still open, she decided to buy some seasonings and vegetables, planning to cook at home.

After parking her car at home, Sharon walked to the nearest supermarket.

As she exited the supermarket with her groceries in hand, she was taken aback by the sudden heavy rain pouring down outside.

Sharon then realized that the weather forecast a few days ago did mention that it was going to rain soon in Metropolis.

She stood at the supermarket entrance, planning to wait until the rain let up a bit before heading back.

In a black Maybach parked by the roadside, Paul Harris observed Sharon through the rain and found her somewhat familiar. After a closer look, he suddenly remembered as he turned to Seb, saying, "Mr. Smith, isn't that Ms. Wright over there at the supermarket entrance?"

Paul had met Sharon a few times when he attended parties with Seb. But now, Sharon was alone outside, clearly without any servants accompanying her.

Just as Paul was about to take a closer look, Seb turned his head and saw Sharon, carrying a lot of things and getting drenched in the rain. He frowned slightly.

Seb withdrew his gaze and said indifferently, "Yes."

Paul asked, "Ms. Wright seems to be stuck in the rain. Should we give her a ride?"

Before he finished speaking, the atmosphere inside the car instantly cooled.

"Got nothing better to do?"

Sensing Seb's displeasure, Paul quickly explained, "I only suggested it because Ms. Wright is your family. I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise. Plus, who knows how long this rain will last? It's risky for her to be out alone at this hour."

Hearing this, Seb's heart stirred. Recalling how Sharon had mistakenly entered the wrong room that night, a slight smile tugged at his lips. He thought, 'She's indeed a bit foolish now, and if she has encountered another man that night, things could have taken a dangerous turn.'

Seeing Seb remain silent, Paul hesitated and asked, "Mr. Smith, should we leave or..."

Seb interrupted him, "You already mentioned she's my family. If I ignore her, people might say I'm unkind."

Paul was puzzled. Seb usually didn't seem to care about emotions, but today he was unexpectedly sentimental.

Sharon waited for a while. Noticing the rain getting heavier, she was contemplating whether to call a cab when a black Maybach suddenly stopped in front of her.

The rear window slowly rolled down, revealing Seb's cold face.

Sharon was stunned, clearly not expecting to see Seb here.

"Get in the car, I'll take you home." His voice was cold and expressionless, giving off an unapproachable vibe.

Sharon took a step back and shook her head. "Seb, it's okay. The rain will let up soon."

Seeing her reluctance, Seb frowned and his tone deepened. "Get in the car. Don't make me say it a third time."

The pressure emanating from him made Sharon feel suffocated, and she unconsciously tightened her grip on the bags she was holding.

Before she could refuse, the passenger door suddenly opened, and Paul got out, taking the items from her hands. "Ms. Wright, come on. This rain will last at least another hour, and it's windy here. You're not dressed warmly enough and might catch a cold."

Seeing Paul put her things in the trunk, Sharon had no time to refuse. She finally bit her lip, opened the car door, and got in.

Inside the car, the scent of pine from Seb's presence made Sharon feel slightly tense.

She instinctively clutched the hem of her clothes, feeling a bit uneasy.

The memory of almost having a sexual encounter with Seb that night still lingered in her mind, like an invisible wall making her feel uncomfortable.

Seb seemed unaware of her discomfort, putting down the documents in his hand and looking at her. "Why did you go so far to buy groceries?"

Sharon replied, "I recently moved to this area, Seb. You can just drop me off at the entrance of Fortune Garden."

"Had a fight with Alex?"

Sharon said, "No, I recently got a job, and living here is closer to the company."

Seb said nothing more, and the car fell into a silent stillness.
