Chapter 460 I Don't Know If I Should Tell You
Seeing that she still wasn't willing to cooperate, Floyd sighed and walked away.
After he left, Ariana started packing her stuff. Just as she finished, the doorbell rang.
She opened the door to find Jake standing there. Surprise flashed in her eyes, but she looked at him coldly. "If you're here to convince me to go back, save your breath. I'm not going."
"No, I just want to know why you quit. Back in Aidamore, you said you'd work hard and finish this project with Sharon."
Ariana frowned. "No reason. I just think I should go back to school instead of working on the project."
"Go back to school?" Jake looked at her in disbelief. "Didn't you say you were broke and needed to work to support yourself?"
Ariana's hand tightened on the door frame. She replied coldly, "That's my business. What's it got to do with you?"
Seeing her attitude, Jake got angry too. Before he came, he thought Ariana might be having some trouble, which was why she quit.
He wanted to help her, but now it seemed he was just being naive. If she had the money to study abroad, how could she be in trouble?
"Ariana, I came as a colleague and former lab partner to ask you. Since you put it that way, I have nothing more to say. Good luck." Without waiting for her response, Jake turned and left.
Meanwhile, Sharon was having dinner when she got a call from Jake.
"Sharon, I just saw Ariana. She said she quit to go back to school. I really wonder where she got the money."
It wasn't that Jake looked down on Ariana; he knew her family was struggling. When they worked together in the lab, Ariana's meals were just a burger and water.
Later, when the lab started taking on projects, she worked with Sharon and Donna, and only then did she have enough money to eat in the cafeteria.
Although she had enough to live on in recent years, quitting to go back to school would cost more than she had.
Sharon lowered her eyes, feeling that Ariana's departure had something to do with Kirk. If Kirk gave her the money, she could indeed quit to go back to school.
But it was unclear whether the money Kirk gave her was his own savings or public funds he had embezzled.
"That's her business. Don't worry about it. She's already quit, and we probably won't see her again. Since we've been friends for a while, let's plan a farewell meal with her."
Even though she was upset, she had known Ariana for years, and it was only right to have a farewell meal together.
"Okay."
After hanging up, Sharon put her phone down and continued eating.
Noticing she seemed distracted after the call, Seb spoke up, "Sharon, is something wrong?"
Sharon looked up at him, her expression complicated. She had a feeling that the public funds Kirk embezzled might have been partly given to Ariana.
But having known Ariana for so long and watching her grow, she still hoped Ariana would do well, which made her hesitate about telling Seb.
Seeing her staring at him without speaking, Seb's eyes deepened, "Why are you staring at me?"
"There's something I'm unsure about sharing with you."
"Wait until you're ready to tell me, so you won't regret it later."
