Chapter 122 You Are Still My Wife!
Sharon's eyes widened. Why was Seb suddenly asking her out for dinner?
While she hesitated, he sent another message.
Seb: [6:30 PM, I'll wait for you in the parking lot.]
Seb wasn't giving her a chance to say no.
Since Seb had helped her get Tyler to agree to her divorce from Alex, she figured she owed him a dinner as thanks.
Sharon: [Okay.]
After that, Sharon put away her phone and got back to her experiment.
"Sharon, the recent experiments have been going smoothly. We should be able to start testing on mice soon."
Sharon shook her head. "It's not that simple. We need countless experiments and trial and error to find the best option. It can take years, even decades, to develop a drug from research to market."
Ashley looked shocked, holding a test tube and momentarily forgetting the next step.
"Does it really take that long?"
"Yeah, and even when we start testing, a lot of unpredictable stuff will pop up and we'll need to keep adjusting."
Without patience, this job could be really tough.
The initial experiments often failed repeatedly, and it was hard to find the root cause.
The day-to-day repetition of experiments was tedious and torturous.
"Alright."
Ashley looked disappointed. She had thought the experiment would be over in six months, not realizing it could take years.
Ashley had a lively personality, and this kind of work was indeed a bit torturous for her.
"Don't worry too much. If we're super lucky and every experiment succeeds, we could move to the testing phase quickly."
Knowing Sharon was trying to comfort her, Ashley forced a smile and nodded.
Sharon said no more. Doing experiments was naturally a tedious job. If Ashley couldn't persist, it might be better for her to switch paths sooner.
In the evening, Sharon took the elevator to the basement level. Seb's car was parked not far from the elevator.
After getting in the car, as it started, Sharon looked at Seb with a serious expression.
"Uncle Seb, let me treat you to dinner tonight."
Seb turned to glance at her, a cold smile tugging at his lips. "Why?"
"To thank you for exposing Alex's affair."
Seb raised an eyebrow and nodded with a smile. "Alright."
Seb's eyes held emotions she couldn't read, making Sharon a bit uneasy. She looked away, her ears quietly turning red.
The car fell silent. Seb picked up a document and continued reading.
The scent of gardenias from Sharon beside him disturbed his thoughts, and he stared at a line for several minutes without reading it.
He closed the document and said in a low voice, "I'm planning to send your father Robert abroad for treatment."
Sharon was taken aback and instinctively refused. "Uncle Seb, there's no need. I'll find a way to handle my dad's illness."
"You don't want any more surprises with your divorce from Alex, do you?"
Sharon lowered her eyes, her hands on her lap slowly clenching.
She knew very well that the Smith family might continue to use Robert to threaten her. Sending Robert abroad for treatment would indeed be better for her, at least she wouldn't have to fear being threatened by the Smith family.
But Robert was weak and might not handle a long flight well. Moreover, if he was sent abroad, she wouldn't be able to reach him quickly if anything happened.
After a moment of silence, Sharon still refused.
"Uncle Seb, thanks for thinking it through, but I don't want to send my dad abroad."
Her voice was gentle but firm.
Seb knew Sharon well. Once she made up her mind, she wouldn't change it for anyone, so he didn't push further.
As they reached the restaurant entrance, they ran into Alex and Ava.
Seeing Sharon and Seb, Alex's face instantly turned cold.
"Uncle Seb, why are you out alone with Sharon?"
"I helped her out, so she's buying me dinner. How about you? Still trying to get caught by the gossip rags to confirm your affair?"
Alex sneered. This restaurant was one of the most private in Metropolis, frequented by the wealthy. How could the paparazzi get in to take photos?
"Since we've run into each other, why not dine together?"
Seb gave him a cold look. "Having your pregnant mistress dine with Sharon at the same table? Only you could think of that."
Alex's face darkened. If he didn't want to prevent Sharon and Seb from being alone, he wouldn't have suggested it.
Before he could say anything, Ava spoke first. "Ms. Wright, I don't mind dining with you. After all, I'm not that petty."
Sharon didn't want to deal with Ava, but Ava insisted on confronting her.
"What right do you have to mind? Is it your shamelessness that gives you courage?"
Ava's face turned pale, and her gaze at Sharon became icy.
Sharon didn't want to ruin her appetite dealing with Alex and Ava. She turned to Seb and said, "Uncle Seb, let's go in."
"Okay."
Alex wanted to stop them but was held back by Ava.
"Alex, causing a scene here won't do us any good."
The people dining here were all influential. Since Alex and Sharon weren't divorced yet, making a scene could make Ava a target.
Alex took a deep breath to suppress his anger and gave Ava a cold look.
"If you hadn't insisted on dining here, we wouldn't have run into this mess!"
Ava sighed. "If we hadn't come here, would Sharon have told you she was dining alone with Seb?"
Alex's face turned extremely dark, his eyes filled with anger.
Throughout the meal, Alex was distracted, often zoning out when Ava spoke to him.
Finally, after finishing the meal, Alex had the driver take Ava home while he stayed at the restaurant entrance, waiting for Sharon and Seb to come out.
After waiting for over half an hour, just as Alex's patience was running out, he finally saw Sharon and Seb walking out side by side.
Sharon was wearing a white dress today, her long hair tied up, her features delicate and beautiful. Standing next to the suit-clad Seb, they looked like characters straight out of a comic book, perfectly matched.
The sight deeply stung Alex's eyes. He quickly walked up to block them, looking at Sharon with a cold face.
"I'll take you home."
"No need, I'll go back with Uncle Seb."
The anger in Alex's heart was like a volcano about to erupt, seemingly ready to explode at any moment.
"Sharon, don't forget, you're still my wife!"
Sharon smiled lightly, looking up at Alex with bright, piercing eyes.
"Is there any law that says I have to follow everything you say?"
