Chapter 256 You're Just a Loser

Grace bit her lip. No way was she gonna die, not now, not ever!

'I gotta find a way to get back at them!' she fumed inside.

Seeing Grace stop struggling, Victor slipped a ring on her finger, then did the same with his own, locking their fingers together.

The reporters snapped a few pics, just doing their job, and then bailed.

After all, both Grace and Victor looked like they were at a funeral, and the whole wedding was just plain weird.

As soon as the reporters were gone, Victor dropped Grace's hand like it was on fire.

They glared at each other, pure hate in their eyes, like they wanted to grind each other into dust.

"Victor, I must have the worst luck to have you like me. You're just a loser, always gonna be under Seb's boot!"

Grace barely finished her sentence before Victor's hand was around her neck.

Next thing she knew, his face was inches from hers.

He was good-looking, sure, but right now, he looked scary as hell.

"Loser? Say that again!"

Grace's face turned red as she struggled to breathe, but she still managed to choke out, "I said you're a loser."

Victor's grip tightened, and Grace's face went pale.

Suddenly, a phone rang, snapping Victor out of it.

He let go of Grace, grabbed his phone, and headed to the balcony.

"What is it?"

"Mr. Edwards, Silvercrest Group snagged a bunch of our big deals today. We're on the brink of a cash crisis!"

Victor's face went white. He'd done what Seb wanted, but Seb had double-crossed him!

He hung up and called Seb. It rang a few times before Seb picked up.

"Aren't you getting married today? How do you have time to call me?"

Seb's voice was calm, but you could hear the cold mockery.

"Seb, you said if I married Grace, you'd spare the Edwards Group!"

Seb chuckled, "I said I'd spare the Edwards Group, but who cares if it's barely hanging on? They're still around, right?"

"Don't push it too far!"

Victor gripped the phone so hard his veins popped, his face full of helpless rage.

"If you don't want the Edwards Group, I can take it off your hands."

Seb's tone was casual, like he was talking about the weather.

Victor knew Seb was threatening him.

If he didn't want the Edwards Group, Seb could take it anytime.

"Seb, from today on, we're no longer friends!"

Victor's voice was furious, but Seb didn't care. "We haven't been for a long time, have we?"

From the moment Victor went against Sharon, they were on opposite sides, now full-on enemies.

Victor said nothing more, hanging up and calling Dominic.

"Check how much working capital we have, and get the shareholders for a meeting in half an hour."

After hanging up, Victor didn't even glance at Grace on the hospital bed, just turned and left.

Over the next month, the Edwards Group's deals kept getting snatched, and the company went from a big player in Metropolis to a nobody. Victor faded from the public eye.

As for Grace, Victor couldn't let her die. Seb had made it clear: if Grace died, he'd bankrupt the Edwards Group in a heartbeat, leaving Victor with nothing.

Victor thought, 'What a joke.'

He used to dream about marrying Grace, but now that she was his wife, they both hated each other's guts, wishing the other would just drop dead.

Karen had kept Sharon's cliff-jumping incident under wraps for a month, but Robert finally found out.

The shock was too much for him; he fainted on the spot, and the doctors had to bring him back several times over three days.

When he woke up, Robert still couldn't deal with it. He refused to eat or get treatment, his will to live crushed by grief.

Karen tried to talk him into eating but failed, tossing the food in the trash and crying by his bedside.

"Fine, let's both starve then. I'll die with you!"

Robert ignored her, turning his back.

After a long silence, his old voice finally broke through, "There are two bank cards in the bedside table at home, enough for your retirement."

Karen snapped, "Why are you telling me this? If you wanna die, I'll die with you!"

Robert was quiet for a bit, then said slowly, "You've had it rough all these years. Sharon was my daughter. All I wanted was to see her happy, but I was useless. I didn't help her; I blamed her, said she made bad choices, that she was too naive. It's my fault."

"Karen, you know me. I really don't wanna live anymore. I don't see the point."

Karen threw herself on the bed, sobbing, "Without Sharon, you still have me and Leo. From now on, Leo is your son, and Sharon would want you to live well."

Robert closed his eyes and whispered, "Pick a sunny day. I wanna hold a funeral for her, send her off."

Suddenly, Karen's face lit up, "Robert, they didn't find Sharon's body. Maybe she's still alive!"

Robert's expression changed. Even though he knew it was a long shot, he couldn't help but hope.

Seeing that Robert wasn't looking so hopeless anymore, Karen quickly added, "As long as we haven't seen her body, there's still hope. I'll have Leo look for her. He's coming back from a business trip tomorrow. We'll get him to search. If Sharon's alive, we'll find her."

After a long pause, Robert finally nodded, "Okay."

Karen wiped her tears and went to get another meal. "Eat first. You need to eat to hold on until we find Sharon."

Early the next morning, as soon as Leo got off the plane, he got a call from Karen.

"Leo, get to the hospital now. Robert and I need to talk to you."

Leo frowned, his face darkening. "I'm swamped right now. I'll come by tonight."

He hung up and was about to call his assistant when a news alert popped up on his phone.

Leo's grip on the phone tightened, disbelief flashing in his eyes, and he quickly clicked on it.

A minute later, Leo called his assistant, his voice icy, "Is the news about Sharon jumping off a cliff true?"

His assistant's shaky voice came through, "Mr. Wendy, yes, it is. We couldn't reach you while you were abroad, so I planned to tell you when you got back..."

Before he could finish, Leo hung up.
