Chapter 166 It Was Sharon Who Abandoned Me
Sharon's hand tightened a bit, then she looked down, pretending not to see Seb.
As she walked past him, her heart raced, worried he might do something noticeable.
The way he had been staring at her earlier was really unsettling.
It wasn't until she left the restaurant that she felt Seb's gaze finally lift.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Sharon frowned.
'We broke up, so why is Seb still staring at me like that?' she thought, taking a deep breath to clear her mind.
Anyway, they were done. It was best to act like strangers now.
Soon, Ashley and Leo came out of the restaurant, and they all headed back to the lab.
After showing Leo his workstation and explaining where the experimental drugs were stored, Sharon went back to her spot for a nap.
The afternoon flew by, and as evening approached, Ashley leaned over to Sharon and whispered, "Sharon, ask Leo if he has a girlfriend. My love life depends on you!"
Sharon smiled and nodded. "Got it."
"Alright, I'm off. Let me know if you find out anything."
After Ashley left, Sharon continued tidying up the lab.
A few minutes later, as she was about to leave, she saw Leo at the door.
"What's up?"
Leo smiled slightly. "I need a favor."
Sharon looked confused. "What is it?"
She thought Leo would keep his distance after returning, but here he was asking for help.
Leo sighed, looking troubled. "I just got back, and my mom's already setting me up on blind dates. Can you play my girlfriend tonight to help me get out of it?"
Sharon was about to refuse but then thought this could be a chance for Ashley and Leo to spend time together. She said, "I have plans tonight, but Ashley is free. I can ask her if she's willing."
Leo's expression froze for a moment before he said, "Isn't that a bit much? We just met her today."
"It's fine. She's always willing to help."
Sharon dialed Ashley's number before Leo could refuse.
Soon, she hung up and looked at him.
"She agreed. Did you drive today?"
Leo nodded, "Yes."
"Great, you can pick her up and go meet your blind date together."
Leo's eyes darkened a bit, and he said, "Alright."
"If there's nothing else, I'm leaving now."
With that, Sharon turned and left, not giving him a chance to say more.
Watching her leave, Leo's lips curved into a smile.
'No worries, I have plenty of time,' he thought.
Not long after she got home, Sharon got a call from Ashley.
"Sharon, I feel like Leo is a bit cold towards me. Does he dislike me?"
Sharon remembered that Leo was always a bit indifferent to girls.
"No, don't overthink it. That's just how he is."
Hearing this, Ashley sighed in relief but sounded less confident. "That's good. I was so afraid he disliked me."
Sensing her unease, Sharon laughed. "Relax. If Leo really disliked someone, he wouldn't even talk to them."
"Yeah, he's the first guy I've liked, so I'm pretty anxious. I'm not bothering you, am I?"
"No worries. I'll try to give you guys some alone time."
Ashley was touched. "Sharon, you're the best!"
Sharon comforted her a bit more before hanging up.
Putting down her phone, Sharon felt a bit emotional. She hadn't expected even carefree Ashley to be so anxious about love.
Thinking about her breakup with Seb, Sharon's eyes dimmed.
She took a deep breath, stopped thinking about it, and got up to wash up and go to bed.
The next morning, as soon as Sharon walked into the company, she noticed people looking at her strangely.
Entering the office, Ashley hurried over, sounding angry. "Sharon, did you break up with Mr. Smith because of his ex-girlfriend?"
Sharon looked surprised. "How did you know about that?"
"So it is true!"
Ashley looked indignant. "Someone took a photo of Mr. Smith hugging her and getting into a car last night. Now everyone in the company is saying he dumped you!"
Sharon was silent for a few seconds, then quietly said, "Oh."
"Is that all you have to say? Are you just going to let them gossip? Those words are infuriating!"
Seeing Ashley's puffed-up cheeks, Sharon found her endearing. She couldn't help but pinch Ashley's cheeks and said with a smile, "Come on, don't be mad. People will say what they want. We can't control that. Just pretend you didn't hear it."
"Aren't you going to clarify?"
Sharon shook her head. "There's nothing to clarify. No matter what I say, they won't believe me. They'll just talk more. Just ignore it; it'll blow over soon."
"Alright, I couldn't stay as calm as you. If I were you, I'd make a huge fuss."
Sharon smiled but didn't comment.
If this blew up, it would only embarrass her. No one would care about the truth. People only see what they want to see.
On the top floor, in the CEO's office of Silvercrest Group, Seb was surrounded by a low-pressure aura, making him unapproachable.
The employees were all gossiping about Seb and Grace, saying Seb had dumped Sharon for Grace.
"I think these employees don't have enough work to do; they're too idle!"
Paul lowered his head and cautiously said, "Mr. Smith, it's best to ignore this. In a few days, no one will care anymore."
"Go issue a statement. I didn't get back together with Grace, and it was Sharon who dumped me, not the other way around. Make them shut up!"
Paul hesitated. "Mr. Smith, if we issue a statement, it might make them gossip even more."
"Even if they gossip more, they'll be talking about how Sharon dumped me, not the other way around."
'Seb doesn't want anyone saying bad things about Sharon!' Paul thought.
Paul couldn't help but roll his eyes, thinking that if Seb cared so much, he should have kept his distance from Grace instead of letting people take intimate photos.
