Chapter 240 I Want to Make Her Life a Living Hell!

Alex slammed the phone down and dialed Ava's number again. "Where the hell are you?"

Ava could hear the barely-contained rage in Alex's voice, and her anxiety spiked.

She bit her lip and lied without thinking. "I'm out shopping. What's up?"

"Get your ass home. We need to talk."

"Okay."

Ava quickly called the investigator she had hired to dig into Alex's life, her voice shaky. "How's the investigation going?"

"I was just about to call you. Besides a hospital check-up, Alex hasn't done anything out of the ordinary."

"What?"

Ava was stunned. With Alex's weird behavior lately, she quickly put two and two together.

'Alex is onto me!' Ava thought.

"Got it."

She hung up and rushed to her bedroom, throwing her jewelry, cards, and some clothes into a suitcase. She bolted out of the house with the suitcase in tow.

On his way to Ava's place, Alex got a call from Joseph.

"Mr. Smith, Ava bribed the doctor to mess with your and Ms. Wright's check-up report. She paid him a lot to make it look like Ms. Wright was infertile. But actually, it's you."

Joseph's voice trailed off, clearly worried about Alex's reaction.

But Alex didn't even flinch. "Got it. Find out where Ava is. If she's out, bring her back home."

"Understood."

Even after the call ended, Joseph was in disbelief. Most people would be freaking out after finding out they were infertile.

Joseph thought, 'Why does Alex seem like he already knew?'

When Alex got to Ava's house, he found the bedroom a mess, like it had been ransacked. He smirked and went to the living room, plopping down on the couch to wait for Joseph to bring Ava back.

Ava had just reached the station when she was stopped.

Joseph's face was stone-cold. "Ms. Kim, you're coming with us."

Ava's eyes went wide with panic. She tried to run, but being pregnant, she was caught after just a few steps.

"Let go of me! I don't want to go back! Let go!"

Ignoring her screams, Joseph had her shoved into a car and driven away.

Ava was sandwiched between two burly guys, no chance of escape.

Furious and scared, she glared at Joseph in the front seat and spat, "Joseph, you're Alex's puppet! You do whatever he says! You won't get away with this!"

Ava cursed silently, 'I was so close to getting away. It's all Joseph's fault!'

Her gaze was icy and venomous, but Joseph didn't even blink. "Ms. Kim, instead of cursing me, you should think about how to beg Mr. Smith for mercy. After all, there's the matter of your pregnancy and the altered check-up reports."

Joseph glanced at Ava's belly, his eyes mocking, and thought, 'Trying to fool Alex like this, Ava is really dumb.'

Ava's face went pale. She had a feeling Alex already knew the truth when she tried to run.

But she hadn't expected Alex to find out about her bribing the hospital to switch the check-up reports.

Seeing Ava go quiet, Joseph turned his focus back to the road, his face a blank slate.

Soon enough, they pulled up to Ava's building. As soon as she was dragged into the living room, she saw Alex chilling on the couch, his face stone-cold.

Alex's stare was icy, like he was looking at a corpse, making Ava shiver.

"Alex."

She stopped a few steps away, too scared to get any closer.

Alex's lips twisted into a smile, but it was the kind of smile that made your blood run cold.

A chill ran down Ava's spine, and she took a couple of steps back.

"Alex, I know I messed up. Please forgive me. I did it because I love you too much." Tears welled up in her eyes, her face full of fear.

The Alex in front of her was terrifying. Ava felt like he could snap her neck any second.

"Love me too much?"

Alex's smile turned wicked. He looked at Ava and said slowly, "Love me so much that you swapped my and Sharon's check-up reports, pushed for our divorce, and got knocked up by another guy to pass the kid off as mine? Wow, you really do love me!"

Each word from Alex hit Ava like a punch, making her tremble. Her legs gave out, and she crumpled to the floor.

Ava knew Alex well. He wasn't gonna let her off easy for screwing him over.

Biting her lip, she crawled to Alex and clung to his leg. "Alex, I'm sorry. I was blinded by greed. But it was too late to come clean. I'm sorry."

As soon as she finished, Alex kicked her away in disgust.

The kick was brutal, and Ava hit the ground hard, pain shooting through her chest.

Clutching her chest, Ava broke out in a cold sweat, her face ghostly pale.

Joseph quickly stepped in. "Mr. Smith, Ms. Kim is still pregnant. If something happens to her..."

Alex raised an eyebrow, his eyes dark and unreadable. "Thanks for the reminder. Take her to the hospital for an abortion."

Ava's face went white. The baby was already five months along. Even though she had initially kept the baby to be with Alex, she had grown attached to it.

"Alex, please let me keep the baby. I promise I'll never show my face around you again. Please."

Ava pleaded and cried, her cheeks wet with tears, looking pitiful.

Alex walked up to her, grabbed her chin, and said slowly, "Ava, you cheated on me and want to keep this bastard child? Dream on. Joseph, take her to the hospital!"

"No, you can't take my baby! Please, don't."

Alex turned away, ignoring her. Soon, Ava was dragged out, her cries fading until they were gone.

Watching Alex's cold profile, Joseph hesitated for a moment before stepping forward. "Mr. Smith, after the abortion, what should we do with Ms. Kim?"

"Kick her out. I never want to see her again!"

Alex deeply regretted making Ava his secretary. If she hadn't abused her position, she wouldn't have been able to switch his and Sharon's check-up reports, and he and Sharon wouldn't have split.

Thinking of this, a look of malice flashed in Alex's eyes.

Joseph was about to leave when Alex suddenly said, "No, I've changed my mind. Don't let her off so easy. I want her to suffer!"
