Chapter 516 Ending Up with Nothing
The bodyguards' expressions shifted, and they quickly exited.
Leo grinned. "Mr. Smith, can we go inside and chat now?"
Seb turned and walked into his office, with Leo trailing behind.
Once seated behind his desk, Seb glared at him. "What do you want to talk about?"
Leo smirked. "Mr. Smith, Silvercrest Group is on the verge of bankruptcy. Instead of throwing more money at this lawsuit against Vertex Innovations Group, how about I give you a hefty sum, and you drop the case? Sound good?"
Seb's eyes narrowed. "You probably can't afford the price I want."
"I can offer you thirty billion dollars. You can use that to start fresh. What do you say?"
Leo had thought this through, convinced Seb couldn't refuse given his current predicament.
The room went silent. Leo wasn't in a rush; he waited for Seb's response.
After a long pause, Seb chuckled coldly. "Leo, you and Raymond conspired to steal Silvercrest Group's core secrets. Do you really think thirty billion is enough for me to let you off the hook?"
Leo raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Smith, you're a smart guy. Let's not waste time. Raymond already killed himself out of guilt. Are you sure the evidence you have is legit?"
Even if it was, he could make it look fake.
Seb's gaze hardened. "Are you threatening me?"
Leo's smile widened. "Mr. Smith, don't get me wrong. Just a friendly reminder. I'm offering you this money because I don't want to waste any more time. Taking thirty billion and walking away is your best bet. Don't regret it when you end up with nothing."
"Thanks for the reminder, but I don't need it. You can leave now."
Leo stood, adjusted his suit, and looked down at Seb. "Mr. Smith, think it over. Call me when you make the right choice."
With that, he left.
After Leo was gone, Seb called Paul into the office.
"How much liquid cash do we have in the company accounts?"
"Less than two million dollars."
Seb handed Paul a card given to him by Demetrius and said coldly, "Check how much money is on this card."
Two million dollars was nowhere near enough.
"Yes, Mr. Smith."
Paul took the card and left. Once the office was quiet again, Seb pondered how to handle Leo.
Suddenly, the office door burst open, and Paul walked in, looking thrilled.
"Mr. Smith... this card... this card has..."
Seb frowned. "What is it?"
"This card has a trillion dollars!"
With this money, the company could be saved!
The company needed three hundred billion dollars. The money on this card could not only save the company but also continue the lawsuit against Vertex Innovations Group.
"What did you say?" Seb's face darkened. "Are you sure you didn't make a mistake?"
This card was from Demetrius. Sharon had said it was just for pocket money, so it shouldn't have much. How could it have a trillion dollars?
Silvercrest Group's peak market value was only two trillion dollars.
This card had enough money to buy half of Silvercrest Group at its peak.
"Really... Mr. Smith, didn't you know how much was on this card?"
Seb stood up, took the card from him, and said, "I'll check it myself."
He couldn't believe the card had a trillion dollars.
How could a five-year-old like Demetrius have so much money?
Paul followed him, excitedly talking about how the company could be saved and how they shouldn't have laid off employees so quickly, which would cost them a lot of money to rehire.
Seb remained silent. If the card really had that much money, he would feel uneasy.
After checking the balance, Seb's face turned grim.
Noticing his unusual expression, Paul felt uneasy.
"Mr. Smith... isn't it good that this card has so much money?"
Seb looked at him. "Go back to the company. I need to go home for a bit."
"Okay."
Seb quickly left.
Paul watched his car disappear from sight, puzzled.
Shouldn't he be happy to have enough money to save the company?
Less than an hour later, Seb returned to the villa.
Sharon was watching TV in the living room. She was surprised to see Seb. "Why are you back at this time?"
Seb sat across from her and placed the card on the table. "Do you know how much money is on this card?"
Seeing it was the card Demetrius had given Seb last night, Sharon frowned. "It should have five or six thousand dollars. Why?"
"This card has a trillion dollars."
Sharon couldn't help but laugh. "When did you become so humorous?"
"I'm serious." He showed her a photo he took at the bank.
Seeing the photo, Sharon was stunned. She frowned at Seb. "You're not joking?"
"Do you think I'm in the mood to joke?"
Sharon was silent. "Do you think the bank made a mistake? How could a five-year-old like Demetrius have so much money?"
She wouldn't be surprised if the card had ten or twenty thousand dollars, given that Demetrius would deposit his pocket money.
But a trillion dollars? Impossible.
She had never seen such a number in her life. It sounded like a fairy tale.
"No mistake. Paul checked it, I checked it, and I asked the bank staff."
Sharon shook her head. "I still think it's impossible. I'll go get Demetrius and ask him how much is on the card. Then we'll know."
"Okay, I'll go with you. If there's a problem with the money, we need to handle it quickly to avoid affecting Demetrius."
Seeing Seb's serious expression, Sharon felt uneasy.
A sudden increase of tens of thousands of dollars in someone's account was already shocking.
Let alone a five-year-old like Demetrius.
A trillion dollars was unimaginable.
They hurried to the kindergarten, both silent on the way.
At the kindergarten, Sharon contacted Connie to bring Demetrius out.
Ten minutes later, Connie walked out with Demetrius.
Seeing Sharon and Seb, Demetrius's eyes lit up, and he ran to Sharon. "Daddy, Mommy, why are you here?"
Sharon and Seb exchanged a glance. Sharon knelt to meet his eyes. "Demetrius, Mommy has something to ask you."
Seeing Sharon's serious expression, Demetrius pursed his lips. "Mommy, what is it?"
Sharon took a deep breath. "Do you remember how much money was on the card you gave Daddy last night?"
