Chapter 623 Just Letting You Go Like This, We Might Break Up
"Sophie, I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have ignored you for so long. I wasn't even mad anymore; I just didn't have the guts to come to you first."
Sophie raised an eyebrow, her eyes full of disbelief.
"Then why did you act so cold every time I tried to reach out or came to the Smith Group to see you? It wasn't until I was about to leave that you suddenly rushed over and hugged me, not letting me go. Don't you think that was a bit weird?"
Randy looked down. "Because I was scared that if I let you go, we might break up."
Sophie pressed her lips together, staying silent. She had indeed thought about breaking up with Randy when she left earlier.
In a relationship, if two people couldn't communicate well and resort to silent treatments whenever there was an issue, it was hard to go far.
After a moment of silence, Randy looked up at her. "Sophie, I know ignoring you these past weeks made you sad. I'm sorry. I was just trying to figure out how we could be together in a way that makes us both happy."
"You don't need to apologize. I've thought about it too. I was a bit hypocritical towards both you and myself before. I'm sorry. I'll work on that."
"Okay."
They exchanged a gentle smile, their eyes filled with tenderness.
Randy reached out and hugged Sophie, speaking softly, "Sophie, I hope we can be good to each other from now on and not fight anymore."
During the past two weeks without contacting Sophie, Randy had been irritable every day, using work to numb himself. But whenever he had a quiet moment, he would think of her.
He wondered what she was doing, if she was eating on time, and if she was thinking of him too.
Even if Sophie hadn't come to find him, he wouldn't have lasted more than a few days before seeking her out.
Life without her was too hard to bear; every minute and second seemed to drag on endlessly.
Only with her by his side could he feel at ease.
After they made up, Randy's secretary felt that life had improved significantly. At least Randy no longer wore a perpetual scowl.
Saturday came quickly, and Sophie invited Sharon and Seb out for dinner.
When they arrived, they saw Sophie and Randy sitting together, chatting and smiling.
After sitting down across from them, Sharon spoke up, "Looks like you two made up."
"Yeah, Sharon, thanks for your help before."
If it weren't for Sharon pointing out her mistakes, Sophie might have continued to sulk as she had in past arguments, and they might have broken up in a fit of anger.
"I'm just glad to see you two back together."
After dinner, Sophie and Randy planned to go see a movie.
She looked at Sharon and invited, "Sharon, do you and Seb want to join us? You two haven't been to the movies together, right?"
Sharon shook her head. "No, but Seb would probably find the theater too crowded."
Randy chimed in, "It fits Uncle Seb's personality."
Seb remained silent.
Before he could speak, Randy continued, "You know, going to the movies is a classic date activity for couples. But I guess it would be a bit much for Uncle Seb. Ms. Roach, it must be tough for you, not being able to do many typical couple activities."
Seeing Randy's regretful expression, Seb suddenly felt a surge of competitiveness.
He forced a smile and looked at Randy. "It's just a movie theater. What's the big deal? We'll go today!"
Randy looked incredulous. "Really?"
"Of course. I'll have Paul book the tickets right now."
Seeing Seb take out his phone to call Paul, Sharon quickly stopped him. "Seb, there's no need. I don't really like going to the movies right now."
"Really? If you want to go, I can book the tickets now."
"Uncle Seb, can't you see Ms. Roach is just giving you an excuse? And you believed it."
"I really don't want to go. Besides, I'm a bit tired and want to rest."
Randy was about to speak when he felt a sharp pain in his side.
He turned to Sophie. "Why did you pinch me?"
Sophie looked innocent. "When did I pinch you? Are you imagining things?"
"No, you definitely—"
Before he could finish, Sophie interrupted, "Alright, alright. Our movie is about to start. Let's go!"
She looked at Sharon. "Sharon, we're heading out. You should go home and rest early since you're expecting."
Sharon nodded. "Okay."
Not giving Randy a chance to speak, Sophie covered his mouth and dragged him away.
With Randy's mouth, who knew what outrageous things he might say next?
Watching them leave, Sharon couldn't help but smile.
Once they were out of sight, Seb turned to Sharon. "Do you not want to go to the movies?"
"Yes, and you don't need to do things you wouldn't normally do just for me. We can watch movies at home, too."
"But wouldn't it be different for you? Randy mentioned that sometimes you need a bit of ceremony."
Sharon chuckled. "You already gave me plenty of ceremony. And I'm genuinely tired. Let's go home."
"Alright."
Seb intertwined his fingers with hers, and they walked slowly towards the parking lot.
As soon as they returned to the villa, Seb received a call from Alton.
Whatever was said on the other end made Seb frown.
Noticing his unease, Sharon looked at him curiously. "Seb, what's wrong?"
Seb hung up the phone and looked at her. "Sharon, there's something I need to tell you, but you should brace yourself. It's about your mom."
Sharon's heart sank. "What is it?"
"You have to promise me you won't get too emotional. You're pregnant."
Sharon nodded. "Okay, go ahead. No matter what she's done, I won't get emotional."
"Alton just told me that your mom's health report came back. She has brain cancer and might only have six months left."
Sharon lowered her gaze, her expression cold. "I thought she was coming after us again. I've already cut ties with her. Whatever happens to her has nothing to do with me. Don't tell me about her anymore."
She had no feelings left for Carolyn and wouldn't let her emotions be swayed by her.
Seeing Sharon get up to go upstairs, Seb grabbed her hand. "Sharon, she wants to see you."
"Please tell Alton I don't want to see her."
With that, she pulled her hand away from Seb and went upstairs.
Watching her retreating figure, Seb's eyes filled with worry.
Sharon valued emotions very much. Although Carolyn had treated her poorly abroad, she had experienced some happy times in her childhood.
He feared Sharon wasn't as calm as she appeared and worried she might regret it later.
Once she disappeared at the top of the stairs, Seb called Alton. "She said she doesn't want to see Mrs. Stoll. I'll try to persuade her, but if she doesn't want to, I won't force her."
"Alright, thank you."
Hanging up, Alton put away his phone and walked towards the hospital room.
Inside, Daisy was holding Carolyn's hand, her eyes red from crying.
"Mom, let's get a second opinion at another hospital. You've been healthy all these years. How could you suddenly be sick? It must be a misdiagnosis!"
Compared to Daisy's agitation, Carolyn remained calm.
"Daisy, I've been to three hospitals. The results are the same. There's no need for more tests."
"How can I believe you only have six months left? Gareth is in jail and could be sentenced any day. Now you're sick too. What am I supposed to do?"
Seeing Daisy's tears, Carolyn's eyes showed a hint of pain. "It's time for you to grow up. You don't need to stay here overnight. Go home."
After Daisy left, Carolyn looked at Alton. "So, she doesn't want to come?"
Alton nodded. "Yes, but Seb said he'd try to persuade her."
Carolyn smiled. "She's a lot like me. If she says she won't come, she won't. You don't need to contact her anymore. Here's my will. Follow it after I pass."
As she spoke, Carolyn handed Alton a document.
Alton frowned. "Aunt Carolyn, isn't this a bit premature? The results just came in. If you cooperate with the doctors, there's a good chance you'll get better."
Carolyn's grip on the document tightened. After a long pause, she shook her head. "No, I don't plan to undergo treatment. Just follow the will. Check if anything is missing or inappropriate."
"Aunt Carolyn..."
"Alton, you know me. Once I've made a decision, no one can change it."
Reluctantly, Alton took the will and read it.
After finishing, he frowned. "You're leaving a lot to Sharon. She probably won't accept it."
"Whether she accepts it is her business. I've thought a lot these past few days. You're right; I owe her a lot. It's too late to make amends now. The only thing I can give her is this."
Alton sighed and nodded. "Alright, I understand. The will looks fine. I'll get it notarized tomorrow."
"Thank you."
After Alton left, Carolyn picked up her phone and made a call.
"When are you free? I want to meet."
An hour later, Andrew pushed open the hospital room door and walked in slowly.
Standing by the bed, he looked down at Carolyn, his eyes filled with undisguised hatred.
"Mrs. Stoll, what do you want?"
"You probably already know that your family's downfall was my doing. I'm here to talk about that."
Andrew's hands clenched into fists, his eyes filled with killing intent as he looked at Carolyn.
