Chapter 454 He Hates Seb
Leo glanced at her. "That's not what I meant. I just want a backup plan in case the Bridges Group really goes under, so we have a way out."
Ayla scoffed, "The Bridges Group is not going bankrupt!"
Leo replied, "I'm just being cautious. It might not matter to us, but we can't let our son suffer."
As Ayla heard this, her expression softened a bit. No mother wanted her child to suffer. "Alright, let's go. Try to get the documents sorted out today."
She quickly walked towards the company entrance, not noticing the sudden coldness in Leo's eyes.
They worked on sorting out the important documents, and it was already close to midnight.
As they walked out of the company, Ayla looked at the still-lit Bridges Group building in the distance, her lips pursed with a complex expression, lost in thought.
Leo put his arm around her shoulder and comforted her in a low voice, "Ayla, you can't be blamed for this. No one knew the Bridges Group would be backstabbed by the cooperating company."
Ayla shook her head. "If it weren't for my overconfidence, the Bridges Group wouldn't have invested most of its liquid funds and become so passive."
Leo reassured her, "Once we get through this, things will get better after the amusement park project progresses smoothly."
Ayla didn't say anything and sighed softly. In fact, she wasn't confident either, not knowing if the Bridges Group could really get through this.
Leo said, "Let's go. It's very late now, and there's still a lot to do tomorrow."
After taking one last look at the Bridges Group building, Ayla turned and left with Leo. Because the gaming company was sold in a hurry, it was finally sold to a company specializing in games for $2.4 billion.
After getting the funds, Garry immediately invested all the money into the Bridges Group, temporarily alleviating the urgent crisis of the Bridges Group.
After the Bridges Group stabilized, Garry held a board meeting to reassure the shareholders. However, although the company was temporarily stabilized, the shareholders were still dissatisfied with Ayla.
"Mr. Bridges, if I may say, Ms. Bridges is not quite suitable for managing such a large company. I suggest making her the deputy general manager and finding someone else to be the general manager."
"I agree. The business world is like a battlefield. Women should stay at home and take care of the family."
"To be honest, I used to think Ms. Bridges was quite good and capable, but this time the Bridges Group almost went bankrupt because of her. If the Bridges Group goes bankrupt, we will all become poor."
Listening to the discussions, Garry remained expressionless. It wasn't until everyone stopped talking that he spoke in a deep voice, "Since you all think Ayla is unsuitable, do you have any suitable candidates?"
Everyone looked at each other, and for a moment, no one spoke. They all had their own little schemes, wanting their own children to become the general manager. However, due to their insufficient shares, they had to suppress these thoughts.
Suddenly, someone spoke softly, "I think Damon would be quite good."
Compared to the difficult-to-control Ayla with her own ideas, Damon would be much easier to handle as the general manager of the Bridges Group.
Garry sneered, "Let Damon be the general manager? I think you all want the Bridges Group to collapse even faster."
Since Damon joined the Bridges Group, he hadn't secured a single deal, and Garry was completely disappointed in him.
Although Garry was also very disappointed in Ayla over the Starlight Corporation incident, he would rather have Ayla take over the Bridges Group than Damon.
As soon as Garry spoke, the room went dead silent. No one dared to say a word. Garry's message was clear: Ayla was staying on as the general manager of the Bridges Group.
Garry continued, "Sure, Ayla's decision to partner with Starlight Corporation was risky, but let's not forget, everyone here agreed to it at the time. We can't put all the blame on her. I believe she'll learn from this and avoid such risky projects in the future."
Everyone exchanged glances but kept quiet. Garry held 80% of the shares in the Bridges Group, so no matter who the general manager was, it would still be someone from the Bridges family.
Ayla made a mental note of the shareholders who had spoken against her, planning to deal with them once the crisis was over.
After the meeting, Ayla approached Garry. "Grandpa, thanks for standing up for me. I don't know how those shareholders would have belittled me otherwise."
Garry gave her a cold look. "I only defended you because you're family. You better watch yourself. If the shareholders find any more faults, I won't protect you again."
Ayla lowered her eyes, a hint of dissatisfaction flashing in them. "I understand, Grandpa."
Garry said, "Investing that money only solves the immediate crisis. The most important thing now is to find new partners. Otherwise, the entire production chain will be affected."
The Bridges Group had been focusing on chips for the past two years. The company that backstabbed them was their largest supplier, holding the semiconductor materials needed for chip manufacturing. Without those materials, the entire production chain would come to a halt, with daily losses amounting to tens of millions of dollars.
So the most important thing now was to find new suppliers. Otherwise, the $2.4 billion wouldn't last long.
Ayla's expression was serious as she said, "I know. I'll go on a business trip to Harmony City tomorrow to see if I can first cooperate with some smaller suppliers to get the production chain moving, and then look for other larger suppliers."
Garry said, "Don't mess it up this time. Otherwise, I won't let you stay in the Bridges Group, even without the shareholders' intervention."
After speaking, Garry got up and left.
Ayla took a deep breath, suppressing her grievances, and called in her secretary to arrange the business trip for the next day.
In the evening, at the entrance of New Hope Kindergarten.
Leo stood at the entrance waiting for Jerold. Now that the gaming company was sold, he was seen as an unemployed person by others, so he decided to pick up Jerold from school.
After waiting for a while, Jerold hadn't come out yet, but Demetrius came out first.
He immediately recognized Demetrius, a smile appearing on his face as he walked over to greet him. "Demetrius, do you remember me? I'm Jerold's dad."
Demetrius looked up and saw Leo's smiling face, frowning. His features were very similar to Seb's, and his frowning expression was almost identical to Seb's.
Although Leo still had a smile on his face, he couldn't help but feel a surge of disgust. He disliked Seb, and consequently, he couldn't like Demetrius either.
Demetrius recognized Leo and nodded. "I remember. You're here to pick up Jerold, right? When I came out, he was packing his bag. He'll be out soon."
Leo asked, "Who's picking you up today? Your mom?"
Demetrius didn't want to talk to him. Just then, he saw the driver who came to pick him up and immediately said to Leo, "Sir, the person picking me up is here. I'll go now. Goodbye."
