Chapter 570 If You Refuse to Help Me, Then We Will Sever Our Relationship!
Gareth's face tightened as he glanced at Carolyn. "Mom, we should have someone tail her. If something goes wrong, it could screw up our plans."
Carolyn's expression darkened. "Don't worry. She'll be taken care of, but they won't let her die. It won't mess with our plans."
"Mom..."
"Enough, Gareth. Are you going to defy me too?"
Seeing Carolyn genuinely angry, Gareth backed down. He nodded. "Alright, we'll do it your way."
After this little spat, Carolyn lost her appetite and left the dining room.
Back in her study, just as she was about to start working, she got a call from Jeremy's assistant. Jeremy had just collapsed and was now in the ICU.
Carolyn lowered her gaze and nodded. "Got it. I'll be there right away."
She hung up and immediately had someone call Gareth and Daisy down. The three of them headed to the hospital together.
The car ride was silent. None of them was particularly worried about Jeremy.
Ever since Jeremy decided to hand over the Stoll family to his mistress and her son, he had been on the opposite side of them.
Luckily, the Stoll family was currently under Carolyn's control, so even if Jeremy died, nothing would change.
Ideally, Jeremy would hang on a bit longer, giving them time to solidify Carolyn's position.
An hour later, they arrived at the hospital.
At the door to the room, two bodyguards blocked their way.
The guards, expressionless, said that Jeremy had instructed them not to let the three of them in.
Carolyn remained calm. She had no expectations from Jeremy anymore.
But Gareth and Daisy's faces turned grim, their anger almost palpable.
They had rushed over to see Jeremy, only to be stopped at the door.
Meanwhile, the mistress and her son were allowed inside. It was laughable.
"I'll give you two choices: move now, or you won't see tomorrow's sunrise."
Carolyn's voice was calm but threatening.
The bodyguards didn't budge, nor did they respond.
They were loyal to Jeremy and would only follow his orders.
Carolyn sneered. If that was the case, there was no need to be polite.
She made a call, and soon, a dozen men in black arrived at the door.
The tension was thick, the air charged with the potential for violence.
Just as the bodyguards and the men in black were about to clash, the door opened.
A woman in a strapless dress with red, wavy hair stepped out.
She looked to be in her thirties, well-maintained.
With a mocking smile, she looked at them. "Carolyn, Jeremy isn't dead yet. Why are you here with Gareth and Daisy? And with so many people? Planning to force your way in?"
Carolyn's gaze was icy. "I need to see him."
She had to confirm Jeremy was still alive before leaving.
"But he doesn't want to see you. Before he passed out, he said you three weren't allowed in. It's almost funny."
Carolyn's face turned livid. "Regardless, I will see him tonight."
"Don't think you can do whatever you want just because you control the Stoll family."
Carolyn was done talking. "Break in."
Her men moved forward.
The woman's expression changed, and she stepped back. Her bodyguards moved to block the way.
Minutes later, the hallway was littered with Carolyn's men.
The two bodyguards at the door remained unmoved.
Mary Collins stepped out again, her chin raised arrogantly. "Looks like you won't be getting in today. If I were you, I wouldn't come here to be humiliated."
Carolyn sneered. "Mary, you won't be smug for long."
Once Jeremy was dead, Mary and her son would have no support. Carolyn could deal with them easily.
Mary's expression changed. "You said that the first time we met, but I've been doing just fine for years."
"Fine, we'll see."
With that, Carolyn turned and left.
Gareth and Daisy quickly followed. Once in the car, Gareth spoke. "Mary won't let us see Dad. What now?"
They hadn't seen Jeremy in almost six months. Every time they tried, they were refused.
When Gareth was born, Jeremy and Carolyn were on good terms, so Gareth had some feelings for Jeremy.
But after Daisy was born, Jeremy moved out with Mary and rarely came back, so Daisy had little attachment to him.
So not seeing Jeremy didn't affect Daisy much.
Carolyn's face was grim. "Ignore her. She's just a clown. Once your dad dies, let's see if she dares to be so arrogant."
"Got it."
After the ordeal, they returned to the estate close to midnight.
Gareth and Daisy went to bed, while Carolyn went to her study.
She called the butler in. "Jeremy's health is deteriorating. Keep a close watch. Inform me immediately if anything happens."
If Jeremy wasn't on the brink, the bodyguards wouldn't have been so desperate to keep them away.
"Yes, ma'am."
"And find Sharon. Locate her before tomorrow night's event and bring her back."
She waved the butler away.
Half an hour later, the butler rushed back.
"Ma'am, we can't find her. She disappeared shortly after leaving the estate."
Carolyn's face turned pale. "Keep looking. Check if there was any unusual activity around the estate tonight."
"Yes."
By the next morning, Sharon was still missing. Carolyn was getting anxious. She increased the search efforts.
If Sharon wasn't found by six that evening, the event would be canceled, and Carolyn would be a laughingstock.
At that moment, in another estate on the west side of the city, Sharon was having lunch in the garden with an elderly man, around seventy years old, with graying hair.
"Miss Roach, try this truffle omelet. It's the chef's specialty."
Sharon smiled and nodded. "Thank you."
After breakfast, Sharon and the elderly man took a walk in the garden.
"Miss Roach, how do you think my estate compares to your mother's?"
Sharon glanced around the garden and smiled. "Each has its own charm. Both are beautiful."
"Which one do you prefer?"
Sharon thought for a moment and looked at the elderly man. "Do you want me to be honest or polite?"
"Honest, of course."
"I prefer Carolyn's estate because it has my favorite roses."
"Just because of that?"
"Yes."
"Well, when I take over the Stoll family, I'll give you that estate as a gift for helping me."
Sharon's smile widened. "You're not just saying that, are you?"
"Of course not. I keep my promises."
"Alright, then I wish you success in advance."
"With your help, I'm sure I'll get the Stoll family."
After their walk, the elderly man went to rest.
Sharon, under the secretary's arrangements, began preparing for the upcoming events.
Back at Carolyn's estate.
Carolyn paced the living room, her face cold as ice.
Gareth and Daisy sat on the couch, not daring to make a sound.
Daisy secretly contacted Alton, hoping he would come over.
Whenever Carolyn was upset and couldn't solve a problem, Daisy would turn to Alton, who always had a solution.
But this time, Alton hadn't responded.
Daisy gripped her phone, waiting for Alton's reply.
Suddenly, the butler rushed in and whispered something to Carolyn, making her face turn even grimmer.
"What did you say? How is that possible?"
Silvercrest Group was supposed to go bankrupt soon, but now someone was helping them from behind, and they couldn't find out who it was!
"Ma'am, the news from Metropolis is just like that. They want to know what to do next."
Carolyn took a deep breath, thinking about how Sharon had mysteriously disappeared after leaving the estate last night. She had a suspicion.
The person helping Silvercrest Group must be the one who took Sharon.
Several names flashed through Carolyn's mind, but she couldn't pinpoint who it was.
She took a deep breath and said coldly, "Continue to target Silvercrest Group, but the main goal is to find out who is behind them!"
"Yes, ma'am. I'll inform them right away."
"Wait, is there still no news about Sharon?"
The butler looked troubled. "No, still nothing."
"Understood. Call Alton over."
After the butler left, the atmosphere in the living room became even more tense.
Daisy didn't dare speak or leave, furiously texting Alton.
If Carolyn weren't in the room, she would have sent a voice message or called him directly.
Gareth's face was serious as he walked over to Carolyn. "Mom, do you have any suspects for who took Sharon?"
"A few, including Jacob, Darcy, Toby, and Antoine. They all opposed me temporarily controlling the Stoll family and always countered my decisions."
Gareth nodded. "Alright, I'll start investigating them. I'll let you know if I find anything."
"Yes, hurry. We need to find her before the event starts."
"I understand."
After Gareth left, Daisy became even more anxious.
A friend messaged her, asking if she had used the methods they discussed to deal with Sharon. Daisy frowned, didn't reply, and deleted the chat.
An hour later, Alton walked into the living room.
Seeing him, Daisy felt like an angel had descended, her whole body relaxing.
Alton didn't notice her excitement and went straight to Carolyn. "Aunt Carolyn, you called me over. What's the matter?"
"Do you know there's a mysterious force helping Silvercrest Group? And Sharon disappeared after leaving the estate last night. I still haven't found her."
Carolyn's face was serious, her voice low.
But Alton's reaction was indifferent. "I didn't know before, but now you told me."
Carolyn frowned and spoke coldly. "I need you to solve this. Silvercrest Group must go bankrupt, and Sharon must be found before the event!"
"Aunt Carolyn, I'm afraid I can't help you. I've decided not to get involved in the Stoll family's internal affairs anymore."
"What?"
Carolyn looked at him in disbelief, anger flashing in her eyes. "What do you mean? Are you still upset about last time?"
Alton shook his head. "No, you misunderstood. I just think we have different ideas. I can't agree with some of your actions, and you don't listen to my advice. So I've decided not to interfere with the Stoll family's matters anymore. You can handle it as you see fit."
"So you came here not to help but to sever ties?"
She had raised Alton for years, almost treating him like her own son. And now, because she wanted to deal with Silvercrest Group, he was betraying her?
"Aunt Carolyn, I'm not severing ties. I just don't want to be involved in your life anymore. And today's situation is your own doing. If you had kept your promise and supported Silvercrest Group, Sharon wouldn't have run away."
"If I'm not mistaken, the person who took Sharon wants to replace you in the Stoll family. Even if you find her, she won't be on your side. You should give up on her and find another way."
"Impossible!"
Carolyn looked at him coldly, disappointment in her eyes. "Alton, I misjudged you. If you won't help me, then we're done!"
Alton's expression remained calm. "I'm sorry you feel that way, Aunt Carolyn. But I have to do what's right for me."
With that, he turned and walked out, leaving a stunned and furious Carolyn behind.
Daisy, who had been watching the exchange, felt a chill run down her spine. She had never seen her mother so angry and betrayed. She knew things were about to get even more complicated.
