Chapter 197 Since She Likes It, Just Give It to Her
No matter how Robert reacted, Sharon turned and left right after speaking.
Behind her, Karen shouted, "Robert, calm down! The doctor said you can't get worked up!"
Sharon paused but didn't look back. She took a deep breath and walked out of the ward.
At the hospital entrance, Leo caught up with her.
"Sharon."
Leo stopped her. "Robert's not well. He can't handle stress. Please understand."
Sharon looked up coldly. "I get it, but who gets me?"
She risked everything to get David in, only for Robert to mess it up.
To Robert, Sharon probably wasn't his daughter anymore.
Before marrying Karen, Robert promised Sharon she'd always come first.
Now, Sharon felt Karen mattered more to Robert than she did.
"I know you feel wronged, but Robert did this to protect you. You can't take on the Smith family alone; it's too dangerous."
Sharon's expression was icy. Danger or not, it's my choice. No one decides for me."
Leo sighed and softened his tone, "One day, you'll understand Robert's intentions."
"Talk to me when I do."
With that, Sharon pushed him away, got in her car, and drove off.
Watching her car disappear, Leo frowned.
Back in the hospital room, Robert was still upset.
Karen patted his back and looked at Leo. "Is Sharon still angry?"
Leo pressed his lips together. "I'll try talking to her again later."
Robert said angrily, "No need. If she doesn't want to acknowledge me, I won't go looking for her. Let her be!"
Seeing Robert getting agitated, Karen quickly said, "Robert, calm down. Sharon is still your daughter."
"Almost thirty and still so willful? When will she grow up!"
"Alright, stop talking. Calm down. If you faint again, you'll end up in the emergency room."
Leo looked at Robert. "It's late. I'll head home."
"Go ahead, be careful."
Leaving the hospital, Leo drove home, planning to talk to Sharon again.
Meanwhile, Sharon had just arrived home when she got a call from Mark.
"Ms. Wright, are you withdrawing the lawsuit against David?"
Sharon lowered her eyes and after a few seconds, spoke softly, "Yes, Mark. Thanks for your efforts. Please withdraw the lawsuit. I'll transfer the attorney fees to you."
"Ms. Wright, why withdraw? With the evidence you provided, we have a good chance of winning. It'd be a shame to give up now."
"No need. I don't want to sue anymore. Please withdraw the lawsuit."
She hung up and transferred the attorney fees to Mark.
She threw her phone onto the passenger seat and leaned weakly against the steering wheel, filled with despair and unvented anger.
Sharon thought Robert would back her, but he sided with the Smith family instead.
After a while, she wiped her tears and her eyes filled with determination.
'I have to leave Metropolis,' she thought.
Not long after she got home, the doorbell rang.
Seeing it was Leo, Sharon didn't open the door and coldly told him to leave.
Leo stood there for a bit, then said, "Sharon, let's talk when you've calmed down."
Sharon stayed silent, not wanting to deal with him.
Leo sighed and left.
In the following days, Sharon's life returned to normal—just work and reading at home.
Leo tried reaching out a few times, but her cold attitude kept him away.
A week later, Sophie called, inviting her to a birthday party.
Sophie's dad, Leonard, was the CEO of the Lee Group, so her birthdays were always big events.
"Sure, I'll be there. Got any gift ideas?"
"Anything you pick, I’ll love."
"Okay, I'll go shopping soon."
After hanging up, Sharon thought about what to get Sophie.
Last year, she gave her a Chanel bag. 'Maybe a dress this year?' she wondered.
The next day after work, Sharon went to the mall.
After over an hour of shopping, she found a dress she liked.
Just as she was about to ask the sales assistant to wrap it up, a sharp voice called out.
"Sharon, didn't expect to see you here!"
Sharon turned to see Ava, looking hostile.
Not wanting to deal with her, Sharon turned to the sales assistant. "Please wrap this dress up."
As the sales assistant reached for the dress, Ava grabbed it.
"I like this dress too. I'll buy it. Charge it to my card."
Ava handed the dress and her card to the sales assistant, looking smug.
The sales assistant frowned. "Ma'am, Ms. Wright selected this dress first. You can look at our other dresses; they are also beautiful."
Ava snorted. "I want this one. Doesn't matter if she saw it first. It's mine now."
The sales assistant looked at Sharon, unsure.
She wanted to give the dress to Sharon but didn't want to deal with Ava's aggression.
Sharon's expression was calm. "If she likes it, let her have it."
Ava was stunned, not expecting Sharon to give up so easily.
She had seen Sharon eyeing the dress for a while and thought she really wanted it.
But Sharon's response left her feeling unsatisfied.
Seeing Ava's hesitation, the sales assistant quickly took the dress and card, smiling. "Ma'am, please come this way."
Sharon raised an eyebrow at Ava. "What's wrong? No money on that card?"
