Chapter 26 Enduring Humiliation

Once upon a time, Sharon had hope for their love, so she could endure some unpleasantness in front of Clara. Others thought she wasn't good enough for Alex, but she didn't care, as long as they could have their own life together.

However, the moment she discovered his infidelity, all her years of endurance turned into a joke, and she no longer wanted to endure it.

Seeing the disappointment in Sharon's eyes, Alex felt as if his heart was being tightly gripped, making it almost impossible for him to breathe.

Alex said, "Sharon, I know no matter how much I promise, you won't believe me. But in the future, I will prove with my actions that I will keep my promises."

Sharon had no intention of listening to his promises anymore and walked past him straight away.

Alex was about to chase after her when his phone suddenly rang.

As soon as he answered, the suppressed voice of his secretary came through, "Mr. Smith, there's a problem with one of the company's partnerships."

Alex's face darkened. "I'll be there right away."

He chased to the entrance of the community, only to see Sharon's figure leaving in a taxi. Alex pressed his lips tightly together, turned around, and drove to the company.

He resolved to address the company matters first before tackling the discord between himself and Sharon.
When Sharon returned from grocery shopping and just stepped out of the elevator, she saw Alex standing at the door with a gloomy face.

She frowned slightly, but before she could speak, Alex suddenly stepped forward and tightly grabbed her wrist, his tone stern. "Where did you go the night you didn't come home?"

Sharon's pupils suddenly contracted, and she pushed his hand away abruptly, taking a step back. "What does that have to do with you?"

Alex said, "That night, you stayed at the same hotel as Seb. Not long after you left, Seb also left. What's even more suspicious is that the hotel's surveillance footage from that time was deliberately deleted."

Alex thought, 'If it weren't for the fact that there's a camera on the streetlight in front of the hotel, I might not have noticed. It's precisely the few minutes when she entered and left the hotel that the surveillance footage is deleted. If there's nothing hidden, why would the hotel delete the footage?'

As his thoughts grew more intense, anger appeared in Alex's eyes. He finally got to the bottom of Seb's strange behavior.

Seeing his disappointed expression, Sharon sneered, "Alex, do you think I betrayed you just like you did, and with Seb?"

Alex didn't respond, but his swollen red eyes stared at her firmly, clearly confirming it.

Sharon asked, "So what? You think I betrayed you. What are you going to do about it?"

Alex clenched his hand, his mind in turmoil. He thought, 'One is my wife, the other my uncle. Should I make this public? If the man she had an affair with is someone else, I'd have taken care of it already. But it's Seb. I feel trapped, forced to endure this humiliation. Because if I anger Seb, I'll lose my place in the Smith family.'

"Sharon." His voice was low, as if he had gone through a great struggle. "We both betrayed each other. Why not forgive each other, let go of the past, and start over?"

"Do you think that's possible?" Sharon asked.

Alex said, "You betrayed me too. So we're even now. If we forgive each other and go back to how things were, wouldn't that be great?"

Sharon smiled lightly. "I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. I never betrayed you, and I have no intention of forgiving you."

Alex frowned, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes.

He thought, 'If there's really nothing between her and Seb, then why would Seb help her so many times?'

Sensing Alex's doubt about her words, Sharon didn't bother to explain further. After all, it was Alex who was suffering. Letting him experience the pain she once felt seemed like a fitting retribution.

Alex asked, "You really never betrayed me?"

Sharon replied, "If you believe I had sex with another man, then you can consider it a betrayal if you want."

She then pushed him aside and walked into the room.

After sitting on the couch to rest for a moment, Sharon opened her laptop to organize last week's experimental data, only to receive a text message from an unknown number: [I won't give up easily. Alex will definitely divorce you!]

Sharon read it with a blank expression and then deleted it.

She thought, 'It seems Ava is indeed infatuated with Alex; otherwise, she wouldn't keep causing trouble for me. But I'm actually looking forward to it. After all, if I pretend to forgive Alex while he continues to cheat, I won't feel guilty. This way, I can get more in the divorce settlement. I'll make sure Alex gives me every penny I deserve.'

After organizing the data, Sharon closed her laptop, took some ingredients from the fridge, and started preparing lunch.

In less than half an hour, the dishes were on the table.

She took off her apron, brought the tablet from the couch to the dining table, and watched a variety show while eating. At this moment, she felt relaxed and happy, as if she hadn't enjoyed a meal like this in a long time.

She was a carefree person by nature, but since marrying Alex, many of her habits had been forcibly changed by Clara.

During three years of marriage, she was constantly restricted, only to be betrayed by Alex. She made a decision not to sacrifice her own well-being any longer and to prioritize her own comfort for the time being.

After the meal, Sharon washed the dishes, made a cup of coffee, and took a book to the balcony, enjoying the sunlight while reading.

Before long, she felt drowsy and unknowingly fell asleep on the lounge chair.

When she woke up again, it was already dark.

After washing her face in the bathroom, Sharon decided not to cook dinner herself. She grabbed her keys and prepared to go out to eat.

Opening the door, she saw Alex lurking in the shadows, startling her and making her take a step back.

"Sharon, it's me." Alex's voice was slightly hoarse, as if he had been waiting there all afternoon.

Sharon frowned. "What are you doing here?"

Alex asked, "Sharon, can you really not forgive me?"

After a moment of silence, Sharon looked at him calmly. "Alex, when you cheated with Ava, you must have spent quite a bit of money on her, right?"

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

Seeing the confusion in his eyes, Sharon couldn't help but want to laugh. Was he pretending to be clueless?

She mocked, "You were willing to spend money and effort on your mistress, taking her out to have fun. But for me, you can't even do that? Besides the occasional harassment and begging for forgiveness, what else do you have to offer?"
