Chapter 183 Nothing to Apologize to Her For
"Oh, okay."
Sharon looked away and said, "Let's head back."
Even after leaving, Ashley was still buzzing. "Sharon, thanks a ton for today. That seminar really fired me up about drug research."
Seeing Ashley's excitement, Sharon smiled. "What sparked that?"
Ashley had been down for days after their experiments kept failing. Sharon thought she might quit, but here she was, more determined than ever.
"Donna mentioned their experiments failed over a thousand times, but they never gave up. That's so inspiring. I want to be like them and share my story someday."
Ashley felt a bit shy saying this.
"I've never really stuck with anything before, but now I want to work hard on drug research."
Sharon nodded. "As long as you're sure."
"Sharon, let me treat you to dinner to thank you for bringing me."
"No need, I have plans."
"Alright then."
After Ashley left, Sharon went to the parking lot to wait for Donna.
Inside, it took Donna and Seb's group over half an hour to wrap up their conversation.
As Donna headed to the parking lot, she texted Sharon but ran into Seb's group at the elevator.
Grace smiled warmly. "Miss Howard, we're going to lunch. Want to join us?"
Donna saw Sharon's message, put away her phone, and looked at Grace. "Thanks, Miss Hall, but I have plans."
Grace looked genuinely disappointed.
"Alright. I was hoping to chat more. I feel like we click and I'd love to be friends."
Donna doubted Grace's intentions; she probably wanted to see if Donna's research could help her illness.
"I'm usually busy, but you can message me on Facebook. I'll reply when I can."
"I will, as long as you don't find me annoying."
"I won't."
The elevator arrived.
They got in, and Donna pressed the button for the basement. Grace kept chatting about drug research.
The doors opened again.
Seeing Sharon, Grace's smile froze.
Sharon was surprised to see Donna with Seb's group but quickly composed herself.
Seb's indifferent expression shifted. Just as he was about to speak, Donna walked over to Sharon.
"Sharon, have you been waiting long?"
Sharon smiled and shook her head. "No, let's go."
"Okay."
Donna turned to Seb's group. "Mr. Smith, Mr. Edwards, Miss Hall, I'm heading out. Maybe lunch next time."
Before Seb could speak, Grace asked softly, "Miss Howard, do you know Ms. Wright?"
Donna was momentarily surprised but replied, "Yeah, Sharon's my junior from college. We're pretty close. Why, do you know her?"
Grace's smile was tight, her eyes hard to read. "Not really."
Donna sensed something off in the air.
She glanced at Sharon, who showed no reaction and quietly said, "Let's go. We're almost late."
Sharon pulled Donna towards the parking lot, not offering any explanation.
Grace bit her lip and glanced at Seb. Seeing his eyes on Sharon, her nails dug into her palm.
Jealousy flared in Grace, making her hate Sharon even more.
Grace lowered her eyes, hiding her emotions.
"Seb, Miss Howard is friends with Ms. Wright. Ms. Wright doesn't like me. Do you think she'll badmouth me to Miss Howard? What if Miss Howard ends up disliking me too?"
Grace's hesitant tone made Seb frown.
"I've already agreed to invest in their lab. Whether she likes you or not, their latest cancer drug will be available for you."
Noticing Seb's protective stance towards Sharon, Grace's eyes darkened, and she forced a pale smile.
"I understand."
Victor, who couldn't stand Grace's submissive demeanor, said coldly, "If Sharon badmouths you to Donna, it just shows she's not a good person!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the temperature around him seemed to drop.
Victor looked up and met Seb's cold eyes, frowning.
"Seb, did I say something wrong?"
"You have no right to judge her. Besides, it's me who wronged her."
Victor found it laughable. "What did you do to wrong her? Don't forget, she got David in jail. If it weren't for you protecting her, with Mr. Smith's power and style, would she still be alive?"
"This is between her and me. It's not for you to judge. Don't let me hear you speak ill of her again."
Realizing Seb was genuinely angry, Victor felt a surge of anger himself.
Victor wondered, 'Does our years of friendship mean less than Sharon?'
"And what if I insist?"
"Then you stop being my friend."
With that cold statement, Seb turned and left.
His voice wasn't loud, but Victor knew he meant it.
"Seb, fine. If you value a woman more than our brotherhood, I have nothing more to say!"
Seeing Victor about to leave, Grace quickly stopped him.
"Victor, don't be impulsive."
Victor sneered, his voice filled with anger. "Who's being impulsive?"
Grace sighed and lowered her voice. "It's not worth breaking your friendship over Sharon. Just do it for me. I don't want my return to cause a rift in your years of friendship."
"This has nothing to do with you! It's Sharon's fault!"
"But it's because I came back and got back together with Seb that he broke up with Sharon, causing your conflict."
Seeing the guilt and remorse in Grace's eyes, Victor felt both heartache and helplessness.
"Grace, you're always thinking of others. You and Seb love each other. It's natural for you to be together. You have nothing to feel guilty about."
