Chapter 187 The Baby Isn't Alex's
Sharon got to the lab just in time for work.
As she put on her lab coat and walked in, she saw Ashley angrily typing on her phone.
Hearing footsteps, Ashley looked up. Seeing Sharon, she quickly hid her phone, looking guilty.
"Sharon."
"Yeah, let's get ready for the experiment."
Sharon's usual calmness made Ashley think of the nasty comments about her in the group chat, making her even angrier.
They haven't even talked to Sharon, so why are they badmouthing her?
Ashley didn't think Sharon would get involved with Alex again.
But that photo did show Alex holding Sharon, and they looked close.
Ashley wanted to ask Sharon but was afraid she'd seem distrustful, like the others.
Distracted, Ashley was slow during the experiment, needing Sharon to call her several times.
After a few instances, Sharon frowned and put down her instrument. She looked at Ashley and said, "Ashley, what's up? You seem distracted. If you're tired, go rest in the office and come back when you're better."
Experiments need focus. In her current state, Ashley would just slow things down and make mistakes.
Meeting Sharon's calm eyes, Ashley bit her lip and looked down. "Sharon, I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Next time, if you're tired, just tell me. Don't push yourself. Go rest."
Sharon's gentle tone, not blaming her, made Ashley feel warm inside.
She looked up at Sharon. "Sharon, I'm off today because of this photo."
Ashley showed Sharon the photo from the group chat.
Seeing the photo, Sharon frowned. Before she could speak, Ashley said angrily, "An employee from PR took this photo and posted it in the company chat. Now people are saying you went to seduce Alex after being dumped by Mr. Smith, calling you shameless. I argued with them."
"This has spread outside the company. Lots of people probably know now."
"Sharon, what's going on with you and Alex? I believe you wouldn't get back with him, but they keep throwing this photo at me."
Seeing Ashley's anxious look, Sharon felt touched.
"Ashley, thanks. Don't worry, I'll handle it."
"Sharon, so what's the deal with this photo?"
Sharon was silent for a moment before saying, "I can't tell you the details right now, sorry."
Sharon wasn't sure if the knife Alex had pressed against her waist was real. She was too nervous at the time and might have been mistaken.
If Alex had used a plastic cake knife, it would be different from a real knife.
If Sharon explained now and it got out, Alex might turn the tables on her. No one had seen if he was really threatening her with a knife.
Seeing Sharon unwilling to explain, Ashley felt a bit disappointed but forced a smile.
"Well, no matter what, I believe you."
They didn't talk about it further, and Ashley quickly got back to the experiment.
On his way back to the company, Alex got a call from Ava.
"Alex, did you go see Sharon?"
Ava sounded angry and accusatory.
Alex frowned and said coldly, "Ava, remember your place. You have no right to question me."
"I have no right? We're married now, and I'm carrying your child! How could you hug Sharon in public? Is that fair to me?"
Alex sneered. "Don't think being married gives you any say in my business. I can marry you, and I can divorce you. If you can't stay in line, you can leave anytime!"
He hung up without giving Ava a chance to respond.
Tossing his phone onto the passenger seat, Alex started the car, looking annoyed.
He was already regretting marrying Ava, which had only brought him trouble.
As he was thinking about when to divorce her, there was a sudden bang from under the car.
Startled, Alex quickly hit the brakes.
Getting out, he saw a blown tire and frowned. Ever since his divorce from Sharon, nothing had gone right.
He was about to grab his phone to call the insurance company when a van pulled up beside him. The door opened, and two burly men got out.
Both wore masks and were taller than Alex, looking intimidating.
Seeing them approach, Alex felt uneasy. "Who are you? What do you..."
Before he could finish, they grabbed his arms and shoved him into the van like a ragdoll.
The door closed, and the van sped away.
Soon, Paul reported the incident to Seb.
"Mr. Seb Smith, the people who took Mr. Alex Smith are from Zephyr Enterprises. They’re probably still angry about Mr. Alex Smith deceiving them and plan to teach him a lesson."
Paul looked at Seb, hesitant to say more.
Although he despised Alex, Seb had already fallen out with Tyler over Sharon. If Tyler found out Seb didn't help Alex, he might be even more disappointed.
"What do you want to say?"
"Mr. Alex Smith is your family. Should we inform Zephyr Enterprises to just give him a warning?"
Seb's expression was icy. "Tell them to leave him breathing."
"Mr. Seb Smith, if Tyler finds out about this..."
"When did you become so talkative?"
Meeting Seb's cold gaze, Paul shivered and quickly lowered his head.
"I understand."
After Alex hung up on her, Ava called him a dozen more times, all unanswered.
Just as she was about to smash her phone in frustration, it suddenly vibrated.
Ava's face lit up, but seeing it was an unknown number, she frowned and hung up.
The caller persisted, and Ava couldn't call Alex. Annoyed, she finally answered.
"Are you crazy? I don't want insurance or classes!"
There was a pause, then a deep voice said, "Ms. Kim, if you don't want everyone to know Alex isn't the baby's father, be at Velvet Sky Bistro, private room one, in an hour."
