Chapter 225 He Won't Give Up Just Like That
Seb finished ordering and glanced up at Sharon. "You want anything to eat?"
Sharon grabbed the menu and added a couple of dishes.
When Seb heard the names, his eyes lit up from their previous gloom.
"Didn't think you'd remember what I like."
Sharon's face stayed cool. "Mr. Smith, I like these dishes too."
"Got it."
Sharon acted like she didn't see the disappointment in Seb's eyes. She picked up the red wine and poured them both a glass. Raising her glass, she said, "Mr. Smith, thanks for your help at Silvercrest Group and for saving me a bunch of times. Cheers to you. I'll drink mine, you do you."
Seb wanted to stop her, but it was too late. He watched as Sharon downed half a glass in one go. His eyes darkened, and he finished his glass in one gulp.
Seeing Sharon about to pour more, he grabbed her hand.
"Drinking's bad for you. Let's switch to tea."
Sharon looked down at Seb's big hand on hers. The spot where he touched felt like it was on fire, spreading warmth to her heart.
She quickly pulled her hand back and looked at Seb, trying to stay calm. "Mr. Smith, just for tonight. We probably won't see each other much after this. One glass isn't enough to show my thanks."
Seeing Sharon's teary eyes, Seb's heart softened.
Seb thought, 'Fine, let her drink. If she gets drunk, I'll take care of her.'
"Alright."
Sharon didn't pour Seb more wine but filled her own glass.
"Mr. Smith, this one's for you too. Thanks for helping me when I was at my lowest and getting me out of a bad marriage. Even though things didn't end well, I don't regret meeting you."
Sharon kept drinking. Before the food even arrived, she'd already had more than half a bottle.
Seeing the bottle almost empty, Seb frowned and took it from her.
"Stop, you'll get drunk."
Sharon raised an eyebrow. "Give it back, I'm not drunk."
Her cheeks were a bit red, clearly tipsy. Her usually cold eyes were now sparkling, a mix of allure and innocence.
Sharon didn't realize how captivating she looked when she gazed at others like that.
Seb's hand holding the bottle turned pale, and he reluctantly looked away.
"Even if you're not drunk, you shouldn't drink more."
Seb's voice had a slight tremor he didn't notice. If Sharon kept looking at him like that, he might not be able to resist keeping her close.
Sharon stared at Seb's handsome profile, a hint of confusion in her eyes, but she quickly smiled.
"Alright, Mr. Smith, I'll listen to you."
Seb placed the bottle on the table to his right. When he looked up, he saw Sharon resting her chin on her hand, watching him.
His eyes darkened, and he said in a deep voice, "Sharon, don't look at me like that."
Sharon used to be able to handle two or three bottles of low-alcohol wine, but she didn't realize tonight's bottle was much stronger. Now, she was a bit tipsy.
She smiled and nodded. "Alright, I won't look."
With that, she really lowered her head and stopped looking at him.
Her slightly curly hair covered the side of her face, making it hard for Seb to see her expression.
It wasn't until Sharon stayed like that for several seconds that Seb sensed something was off.
"Sharon?"
"Yeah?"
Sharon responded instinctively but didn't move.
"Are you drunk?"
"No."
Even though Sharon denied it, her hand slipped off the table, and her chin was about to hit the table.
Just as Sharon's chin was about to hit the table, a strong hand caught it.
Feeling the delicate touch in his palm, Seb's eyes darkened.
Sharon's eyes were closed, and the light from above cast a shadow from her curled lashes, looking like a butterfly about to take flight.
Seb looked at Sharon's peaceful sleeping face, his eyes filled with affection and tenderness. 'I can't give up,' Seb mused.
Even if Sharon pushed him away a thousand times, he'd keep coming back until she was ready to start over with him.
A waiter arrived with the dishes and was surprised to see Sharon asleep.
"Sir, should I serve the dishes now or later?"
"No need to serve them. Just bring me the bill."
The waiter was momentarily stunned but then nodded. "Alright, I'll bring it right away."
After paying the bill, Seb carried Sharon out of the restaurant.
When Sharon woke up again, she found herself lying in a bedroom. She sat up abruptly, her eyes wide with shock.
Seeing that she was wearing pajamas, Sharon finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Sharon wondered, 'Wasn't I having dinner with Seb? How did I end up here? Was it all a dream?'
Sharon quickly grabbed her phone and checked the date. It was the 14th, and she had invited Seb to dinner yesterday, which meant last night wasn't a dream?
But after a few glasses of wine, she had no memory of what happened next.
Sharon hurriedly got out of bed, put on her slippers, and went downstairs. She saw Sophie sitting on the couch reading documents and quickly walked over. "Sophie, how did I get back last night?"
Sophie looked up, teasing her, "Seriously, you blacked out?"
"Was I drunk last night?"
"More than that." Sophie exaggerated, her eyes gleaming with schadenfreude. "You even threw up on Seb. When he brought you back, he told me to take good care of you."
"What?" Sharon's eyes were filled with shock and disbelief. "I got drunk and threw up?"
Sharon frowned and thought, 'I used to be able to drink two bottles of red wine, so how did I get drunk after just half a bottle last night?'
Seeing her distressed expression, Sophie chuckled and said, "Just kidding. You fell asleep after getting drunk. I just changed your clothes. But weren't you having dinner with Seb last night? How did you end up getting drunk?"
Hearing this, Sharon sighed in relief. At least she didn't throw up on Seb.
"I have no idea. I used to handle two bottles just fine. Last night, I had half a bottle and totally blacked out."
Seeing Sharon's puzzled look, Sophie said, "Did you mix up Montos and Mongets? These two red wines have similar names but totally different alcohol content."
Sharon had never paid attention to wine labels when drinking with friends. She only remembered the beginning of the names. When the waiter recommended the wine last night, she instinctively thought it was the one she usually drank.
"Maybe."
Thinking about how she had invited Seb to dinner but ended up getting drunk in front of him, Sharon felt embarrassed. She wished she hadn't drunk last night.
Seeing Sharon's regretful expression, Sophie couldn't help but tease her. "You have no idea how careful Seb was when he brought you back last night. He didn't even let me help; he carried you straight to your room before leaving."
Sharon was speechless.
"Sophie, I still feel a bit dizzy. I'll go upstairs first."
After speaking, Sharon quickly turned and fled back to her bedroom, afraid Sophie would continue teasing her.
After closing the door, Sharon leaned against it, thinking for a while before picking up her phone and dialing Seb's number.
