Chapter 35 A Special Relationship
After smoothly getting through the fingerprint extraction in the afternoon, Elizabeth had arranged to have dinner with Irene. At this moment, Elizabeth and Irene were in a high-end restaurant.
Elizabeth said, "Irene, your dad is really something. He managed to get those fake gloves. When I wore them this afternoon, it felt a bit strange at first, but later I couldn't tell the difference at all."
Irene looked smug. "Of course, getting something like that is a piece of cake."
Elizabeth reminded, "Now that Sharon's issue is resolved, she'll definitely be fired first thing tomorrow morning. As for my dad's job..."
Irene replied, "Don't worry. I'll talk to my dad tonight and make sure it's taken care of by tomorrow."
As Elizabeth and Irene chatted and laughed, two police officers suddenly walked into the restaurant and headed straight for them.
At first, Elizabeth and Irene even suspected that there might be a fugitive hiding in the restaurant, but when the officers stopped at their table, their faces immediately turned pale.
"Ms. Jones, regarding the explosion of the equipment at Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals' lab today, we need your assistance with the investigation. Please come with us," the officer remarked.
Elizabeth's heart was in turmoil, and she couldn't help but tremble. "What do you mean? What does the equipment explosion have to do with me? Why do you need my assistance?"
"You'll get the details at the station, Ms. Jones."
Elizabeth refused, "I'm not going. I didn't do anything. It has nothing to do with me. If you have questions, ask them here!"
Seeing Elizabeth's agitated state, the two officers exchanged glances, and one of them said sternly, "Ms. Jones, if you refuse to cooperate, we will take mandatory measures."
Faced with the officers' serious expressions, fear began to creep into Elizabeth's heart.
Just as Elizabeth was hesitating, Irene said, "Elizabeth, it's just to assist with the investigation. Go ahead. Nothing will happen. I'll go with you."
Elizabeth could only nod, though she was scared. "Alright then."
After arriving at the police station, Elizabeth was taken to give a statement, while the officers asked Irene to wait outside.
Irene couldn't wait calmly and hurriedly stepped out of the station to call Ted. "Dad, Elizabeth was just taken by the police to give a statement. I remember you know a police chief, right? Can you..."
Before she could finish, Ted angrily interrupted, "Shut up!"
Irene was startled by his roar and didn't react immediately. Then she heard his furious voice continue, "Do you know how much trouble you've caused me? Just for getting you those gloves, I offended Seb, and I almost lost my job. Don't bother me with your issues anymore!"
With that, Ted hung up the phone, ignoring Irene's reaction.
The police interrogation was quite efficient, and with Elizabeth's panic, she quickly confessed. However, she still held back and didn't mention Irene.
After waiting for over an hour, news came that Elizabeth was being detained.
Irene was now completely panicked because she wasn't sure if Elizabeth would betray her.
Just as she was at a loss, Sharon walked into the police station.
Seeing Sharon, Irene could barely contain her inner anger and resentment, almost rushing up to question if she was behind everything. But reason made Irene restrain her emotions and she just coldly watched Sharon walk into the statement room.
After finishing her statement, Sharon had just walked out of the police station when Irene stopped her.
Irene asked, "Is Elizabeth's situation your doing?"
Sharon found it somewhat amusing and raised an eyebrow at her. "You instructed Elizabeth to go after me, and now you're suffering the consequences. And you're asking if it's my plan? That's just ridiculous."
Irene didn't deny it and responded with a cold smile, "Sharon, you lucked out this time. But don't count on being this lucky every time."
With that, she turned and left.
Sharon was about to hail a cab when a black Cayenne suddenly stopped in front of her.
Alex got out of the driver's seat, and seeing that Sharon was safe and sound, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Sharon, I just heard from a friend that you were at the police station giving a statement. So I rushed over. I'm so glad you're okay."
Alex's face was full of concern, but as Sharon's attention shifted, she noticed the bright red lipstick stain on the collar of his white shirt, and a wave of disgust surged within her.
"You really went out of your way, managing to come to the police station in between your flirting sessions," Sharon said with a hint of sarcasm in her eyes.
Alex was taken aback, frowning. "What are you talking about?"
Sharon remained expressionless. "Next time you want to act all devoted, remember to wipe off the lipstick stain on your collar first, or you'll just look ridiculous."
With that, she didn't care about Alex's reaction and directly hailed a cab to leave.
Alex looked down at his collar, feeling incredibly embarrassed. He tried calling Sharon to explain, but after several attempts with no answer, he realized she had blocked him.
Thinking about how their relationship had just started to improve, he didn't want to revert to a bad state. His eyes grew colder.
He quickly got back in the car and drove towards Sharon's place, but midway, he received a phone call. Hearing the voice on the other end, the veins on his hand gripping the steering wheel bulged. After a moment of anger, he chose to turn around and leave.
When Sharon returned to her apartment, she checked her Facebook notifications. It was the private investigator she had hired, sending her photos. She took a deep breath and opened the photos, but even though she was mentally prepared, seeing Alex and Ava intimately embracing still caused a pang of pain in her heart.
Every photo showed Alex and Ava in close moments. A bitter smile appeared on her lips, and her eyes involuntarily became moist. Indeed, it was fortunate she hadn't trusted Alex; otherwise, she would be the joke now.
After suppressing her sadness, Sharon transferred more money to the private investigator, instructing him to continue monitoring Ava, and then logged out of Facebook.
Early the next morning, just as Sharon got up, she received a call from Seb.
"Did you buy those two outfits?" His tone was cold, with a hint of laziness coming through the phone.
Hearing it was about the clothes, Sharon couldn't help but frown. "Yes, I felt bad about ruining your clothes and wanted to replace them."
"You owe me more than just those two outfits. If you really want to repay me, it should be more." Seb's tone carried displeasure.
Sharon sensed his anger and felt a bit puzzled. She thought the matter of the clothes was settled, but Seb was still unhappy.
She asked, "Seb, how do you want me to repay you?"
Seb was silent for a few seconds before abruptly hanging up.
Sharon wanted to ask more, but knowing Seb's personality, she had to let it go.
At the Silvercrest Group Building, Seb put down his phone. Paul, standing nearby, cautiously asked, "Mr. Smith, what should we do with these two suits?"
Seb glanced at the suits and said coldly, "Throw them away."
Feeling the cold aura emanating from Seb, Paul immediately turned to leave. Just as he was about to reach the door, Seb's voice called out, "Wait a minute."
Paul turned back. Noticing Seb's somber expression, he suggested tentatively, "Mr. Smith, why not send these two suits to your home? Ms. Wright spent quite a bit of money, and they happen to be your size."
Hearing this, Seb's expression softened slightly, and he nodded in agreement. "Send them to my home then."
"Understood!" Paul replied.
Paul left the office, his mind racing with thoughts about Seb's attitude towards Sharon. He hoped he was overthinking it, but it seemed to him that the relationship between Sharon and Seb was not ordinary.
