Chapter 521 Can't Make a Deal
Damon's face darkened as he stepped forward, towering over her. "Say that again!"
Ayla raised an eyebrow. "What? Can't win the argument, so you wanna throw punches now?"
"You!" Damon clenched his fists, and for a moment, he really wanted to hit Ayla.
"Enough!" Garry's stern voice cut through the tension. "Isn't this mess bad enough? Both of you, shut up!"
Damon's face changed again. He took a deep breath and said nothing more. After all, Ayla was no longer in line to inherit the Bridges Group. She was just a marginal figure now, not worth his concern.
Ayla turned to Garry, her expression blank. "Grandpa, did you call me here today because of Leo's arrest?"
Garry frowned. "Leo's arrest affects the Bridges family's image. You should stay out of the public eye for a while and get your paperwork ready to leave the country."
Ayla let out a cold laugh. "Got it."
In Garry's eyes, she was now just a discarded pawn, useless and better off gone. But handing the Bridges Group over to Damon, that idiot, would be Garry's biggest mistake.
"I've already divorced Leo. What happens to him has nothing to do with me, and I don't care. If there's nothing else, I'll be going."
"Wait!" Garry stopped her, his voice heavy. "There's another matter I need to discuss with you."
Ayla's heart filled with cold amusement, though her face showed nothing. "What is it?"
"Before you leave the country, transfer the 10% of shares you hold to Damon."
Seeing Garry's self-righteous expression, Ayla felt a surge of anger. Why should she give Damon the shares she got in the divorce for free?
"Grandpa, I'll transfer them if he buys them from me."
As soon as she finished speaking, Damon jumped up. "Ayla, you want money? Do you really think you deserve those 10% shares?"
"If we're comparing, I think I deserve them more than you."
"What did you say? Say that again!" He stormed forward, fists clenched, ready to hit her.
Ayla lifted her chin and stared him down. "Did I say something wrong? If I remember correctly, those 10% shares were transferred to me because I agreed to the divorce. And in exchange, Leo returned the gaming company to the Bridges Group. What right do you have to demand my shares?"
"What's yours belongs to the Bridges family. Why can't we ask for it?"
"I said you could have them, but you have to pay me market value. Otherwise, I won't give you the shares!"
"Looks like you want to do this the hard way!"
Damon moved to strike Ayla, but her parents stepped in front of him.
"Damon, what do you think you're doing? If you lay a hand on Ayla, I won't let you get away with it!"
Ayla's mother, Hazel Cooper, glared at Garry. "Dad, how can you ask Ayla to transfer all her shares to Damon? That's so unfair! Ayla has been working hard for the company these past years, while Damon has done nothing but party."
"Now that Ayla's injured and divorced from Leo, you want her shares without paying a cent? Her father and I are still alive!" Hazel's voice was sharp with anger.
Garry's face twisted with frustration. "She's about to leave the country. What does she need so many shares for? It's not that we don't want to pay her, but you know the Bridges Group's current situation. Even if we wanted to pay, we'd have to wait until the company recovers."
Ayla laughed coldly. "Nice words. If I give Damon the shares, the chances of him paying me are lower than the world ending!"
Garry glared at Ayla. "Are you forcing my hand?"
"Grandpa, you're the one forcing me. I'd rather let the shares go to waste than give them to Damon!"
"Fine! You're really something!"
Everyone left in a huff. Back at the villa, Hazel sat beside Ayla. "They didn't get the shares this time, but they'll try other ways to take them. Ayla, you can't give in."
"Give in?" Ayla laughed coldly. She'd never soften towards Garry after he chose Damon over her.
But since they were after her shares, keeping them wasn't safe.
And knowing Damon, who knows what he'd do to get them.
Thinking this, Ayla turned to Hazel. "Mom, I need to go out."
Leaving the villa, she headed straight to Silvercrest Group.
When Seb heard Ayla wanted to see him, he was surprised.
Hearing she wanted to discuss business, he raised an eyebrow. "Send her to my office."
Soon, Ayla wheeled herself in. Her leg was still in a cast from a bad fracture.
"Ms. Bridges, I hear you have a business proposal."
Ayla nodded. "Mr. Smith, I have 10% of the Bridges Group's shares. Are you interested?"
Seb was surprised and smiled. "Ms. Bridges, wouldn't it be better to sell those shares to your family? Aren't you worried the Bridges Group might change its name if you sell to me?"
Ayla's face was cold. "If the Bridges Group ends up in Damon's hands, it might as well change its name."
"How much do you want?"
Ayla took a deep breath, looking serious. "I don't want money. I want to trade the 10% of the Bridges Group's shares for 1% of Silvercrest Group's shares."
As long as the shares weren't in her hands, Garry couldn't force her to give them to Damon.
She wouldn't let Damon win!
Seb frowned. Trading 10% of the Bridges Group for 1% of Silvercrest Group seemed like a good deal, but the Bridges Group was no longer what it used to be. Those shares didn't interest him.
"Sorry, Ms. Bridges, I can't agree to that. Silvercrest Group has just gone through turmoil, and I'm not planning to transfer any shares right now."
Ayla's face stiffened, clearly not expecting Seb's refusal.
"Mr. Smith, I don't intend to join Silvercrest Group's board. I just want the dividends, and I'll be leaving the country soon, never to return."
Seb's expression remained cold. "Promises aren't legally binding, and I don't believe them. It seems we can't make a deal."
