Chapter 544 Otherwise, You'll Always Be in the Dark

On the other side, Demetrius had just put down his phone when there was a knock at the door.

"Demetrius, who were you talking to just now?"

Demetrius swallowed nervously and replied, "Mom, I wasn't talking to anyone, just talking to myself."

"It's late, go to bed early."

"Okay, Mom."

He heard footsteps retreating from the door and let out a sigh of relief.

If Sharon had walked in just now, he might have been caught.

The next morning, the family of three was having breakfast in the dining room.

Seb put down his tablet, looked at Sharon, and suddenly said, "Sharon, why don't we get married?"

Thinking about Jesse eyeing Sharon, Seb felt a constant unease, as if he was about to lose her.

Sharon was taken aback, then looked up at him. Seeing his serious expression, she couldn't help but laugh.

"Most people propose with a ring, or at least some flowers. You just say 'let's get married.' Should I say yes or no?"

Seb pressed his lips together. "Sorry, I didn't think it through. If you want, I'll go buy a ring later."

Sharon looked at him, exasperated. "Who proposes like that? There's no surprise at all."

She lowered her gaze, took a sip of milk, and was about to speak when Seb's phone rang.

Seeing it was Paul, Seb's expression darkened.

Paul usually didn't call him in the morning unless it was something important.

He got up and answered the call. "What's up?"

"Mr. Smith, the Bridges Group called this morning. They want to terminate all our collaborations."

Paul's voice was filled with anger. When the Bridges Group was on the brink of bankruptcy, it was Silvercrest Group that helped them.

Now that their crisis was over, they wanted to burn bridges!

Seb's expression remained indifferent. "Got it. I'll handle it when I get to the office."

He had anticipated this day ever since he refused to sell the Bridges Group's 10% shares to Garry at such a low price.

He just didn't expect it to come so soon.

Putting his phone away, he returned to the table and looked at Sharon. "There's something at the office I need to handle. Can you take Demetrius to school?"

"No problem, you go ahead."

"Thanks."

Seb turned to leave, but as he reached the door, he heard footsteps behind him.

He turned to see Sharon, a puzzled look in his eyes. "What's up? Did I forget something?"

"You forgot your cufflinks."

Sharon held out her hand, revealing two diamond cufflinks.

Seb smiled. "I was in such a rush, I forgot."

"Let me put them on for you."

"Sure."

Seb extended his hand, and Sharon fastened the cufflinks. She looked up at him. "If you don't have to work late, come home early. I have something to tell you."

"Okay, if I don't have to work late, I'll call you."

With that, Seb turned and left.

Sharon watched him until he was out of sight, then returned to the dining room.

After breakfast, she drove Demetrius to school.

After dropping him off at preschool, Sharon was about to leave when she noticed a familiar figure standing by the road. She instinctively looked over.

It was Alton. She frowned and took a deep breath before walking over.

"Mr. Roach, what are you doing here?"

Seeing her guarded expression, Alton sighed. "Sharon, I just want to talk."

"We've already talked. I don't want to waste any more time. And please, don't contact Demetrius again."

Sharon's gaze was cold and unyielding.

Alton sighed. "Sharon, I really hope we can talk. Aren't you curious about your mom's life abroad all these years?"

"Not at all, Mr. Roach. I have things to do. Goodbye."

As she turned to leave, Alton quickly blocked her path. "Your mom might come back next week. She wants to see you. When are you available?"

"I'm not." Sharon sidestepped him, got in her car, and drove off.

On the way home, Sharon couldn't help but wonder why Carolyn wanted to come back.

She had left so decisively back then. She shouldn't come back now to disrupt her peaceful life.

An hour later, Sharon was back home.

She sat on the couch, thinking for a long time before calling Sophie.

When Sophie heard that Sharon's mom was coming back, she said, "If she wants to see you, then go see her. And I think you should talk to Alton more."

Sharon frowned. "I don't want any ties with them. I don't want to force myself to meet people I don't like."

Sophie sighed. "I understand. I wouldn't want to either. But you know Alton has a reason for coming back. You need to find out what it is. Seb's company is strong, but against the Stoll family, it's not enough. If you don't figure out their intentions, you'll always be in the dark."

Sharon lowered her gaze, gripping her phone tightly.

Sophie was right. She had to find out Alton's true intentions.

"Thanks, Sophie."

"Don't mention it. The Lee Group and the Smith Group rely on Silvercrest Group. If you and Seb are good, Randy and I will be good."

"Okay, I'll talk to you later."

Sharon hung up and put down her phone, thinking about how to discuss this with Seb that evening.

In the Silvercrest Group's CEO office

Damon sat across from Seb, smiling. "Mr. Smith, I brought the penalty fee. When will you sign the termination?"

Seb's eyes were cold, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk. "Where did you get the money?"

From what he knew, the Bridges Group had just avoided bankruptcy. They shouldn't have this much cash so soon.

Damon raised an eyebrow, speaking nonchalantly. "Mr. Smith, that's not your concern. The Bridges Group has been in Metropolis for years. They can gather this much."

He appeared calm, but he was also puzzled about where Garry got the money. This morning, Garry had just told him to handle the termination today, saying Silvercrest Group might soon go bankrupt.

Seb nodded. "Alright, but I advise Mr. Bridges not to act rashly. If the Bridges Group faces bankruptcy again, no one will dare to help them."
