Chapter 288 Just a Warning

Hearing that, Sharon just lost it and threw her arms around Demetrius.

Her eyes were all red, but she was still trying to keep it together.

She couldn't wrap her head around why, even after five years and his amnesia, Seb still wouldn't back off and kept messing with her life.

He was the big-shot president of Silvercrest Group, and she was just a pharmaceutical researcher.

Sure, she had some big wins in her field, but it was nothing compared to Silvercrest Group.

Seeing Sharon shaking, Demetrius gently patted her back, trying to comfort her, "Mom, don't be sad. I’ll never call that jerk my dad! I’ll always stick with you!"

Hearing this, Sharon hugged Demetrius tighter and nodded, "I won't let you go either."

After a bit, the nanny came out with the food and saw Sharon hugging Demetrius at the door. She said, "Ms. Roach, dinner's ready. Come on in and eat."

Sharon pulled herself together, let go of Demetrius, and stood up, "Okay."

After dinner, Sharon was about to take Demetrius out for a walk when she got a call from Donna.

"Sharon, did you hear about the Cook Group's mess?"

Sharon was caught off guard for a second, then asked, "What happened?"

Donna's voice came through the phone. "I heard the Cook Group went head-to-head with Silvercrest Group over some amusement park project and blew tens of millions on it. Now, the Cook Group's shareholders are grilling Zachary. I got this from the grapevine, so not sure if it's 100% true."

Sharon's face darkened, and she quickly said, "Donna, thanks. I'll check with Zachary."

She hung up fast and was about to call Zachary but figured he was probably in a meeting. She didn't want to bug him, so she shot him a text instead.

No reply.

Sharon waited over an hour, still nothing from Zachary.

She paced around the living room, worried sick. Zachary usually never took this long to get back to her, so this had to be serious.

It wasn't until after ten at night that Zachary finally called back.

He said, "Sharon, no big deal on my end. I got this. Don't stress."

Hearing the tiredness in his voice, Sharon felt a pang of guilt.

If it weren't for her and Demetrius, Zachary wouldn't be having such a rough time with the Cook Group's shareholders.

"Zachary, you don't have to look after me and Demetrius anymore. I don't want you having a hard time at work because of us." Sharon's voice shook, with a hint of hidden heartache.

Zachary was quiet for a few seconds before speaking again, his voice gentle but firm, "Sharon, don't worry about me. I promised to protect you, and I will."

"But now..." Sharon bit her lower lip, her eyes filled with guilt and sadness.

Zachary cut her off, his voice low, "It's not your fault. It's Seb who's being a pain. You're my girlfriend, and I won't let him mess with you. Don't worry about me. I made this choice, and I'll deal with it. Leave it to me."

Sharon dropped her gaze, feeling a rush of emotions she couldn't quite name, mumbling, "Zachary, I'm not worth all this."

"To me, you're everything. Stop putting yourself down; it breaks my heart."

A whirlwind of feelings swirled inside Sharon, leaving her momentarily speechless.

Zachary had done so much for her, taken on so much stress, and never once complained.

Compared to Zachary, her problems seemed tiny.

If Julia didn't agree, she'd just keep pushing until she did.

With that thought, Sharon felt a sense of clarity and said, "Zachary, thank you!"

"I told you, I don't want to hear you say thank you."

"Last time, I swear!"

Hearing this, Zachary chuckled softly, "Alright, I'll let it slide this time. I gotta get back to work. Talk to you later. Good night."

After hanging up, Zachary's secretary spoke up, "Mr. Cook, the shareholders still won't leave..."

Zachary put away his phone and walked into the conference room with a stern face.

As soon as he walked in, the shareholders started their rant.

"Zachary, you put the company in this mess for a woman. What were you thinking?" one shareholder angrily slammed the table, his eyes blazing.

"It's a huge loss. You owe us an explanation!" another shareholder chimed in.

Zachary clenched his fists, trying to keep his cool, "This is just a temporary setback. I'll find a way to fix it."

At that moment, another shareholder stood up and said coldly, "Zachary, stop with the excuses! Your personal issues are hurting the company. We demand a clear plan, or we'll push for new management!"

Zachary took a deep breath and looked at everyone with determination, "I get your concerns and anger, but trust me. I'm working on solutions, and talks with several partners are already in progress. We'll bounce back soon."

"Easy for you to say!" the first shareholder snorted, "If this crisis isn't resolved, you must resign!"

Zachary gritted his teeth and replied, "Fine, if I can't fix this, I'll take responsibility. But until then, give me some time and space."

After the meeting, Zachary returned to his office, exhausted, rubbing his temples.

Suddenly, his phone on the desk rang.

He glanced at the caller ID and frowned. It was Seb.

"Mr. Cook, this is just a warning. If you stop meddling between Sharon and me, I'll back off and stop targeting the Cook Group." Seb's voice came through, cold and arrogant as ever.

Zachary tightened his grip on the phone and said through gritted teeth, "Mr. Smith, forget it. I won't agree!"

Seb sneered, "You're really stubborn. But I'm curious, what's more important to you, the company or Sharon?"

With that, Seb hung up.

Zachary angrily slammed the phone on the desk, his heart burning with rage.

No matter what, he would never give up on Sharon.

Just then, there was a gentle knock on the office door. The secretary walked in cautiously and said, "Mr. Cook, the partners just informed us they want to reconsider the cooperation."

Zachary wearily waved his hand, "Got it. You can go now."

After the secretary left, Zachary looked out the window, his eyes filled with determination.
