Chapter 42 Do You Think She Deserves It
Sharon felt as if she was hearing a joke; she'd never witnessed a man, cradling his mistress, command his wife to apologize to her.
"Do you think she deserves it?" she asked.
Ava's eyes welled up with tears as she clutched Alex's sleeve and choked out, "Mr. Smith, please don't make things difficult for Ms. Wright. It's my fault to begin with. As long as it can calm Ms. Wright down, she can treat me however she wants."
Alex looked down at Ava coldly, "Shut up!"
Sensing his anger, Ava couldn't help but tremble and lowered her eyes, not daring to speak again.
Watching the two of them embrace, Sharon felt nothing but ridicule.
Was this what Alex had previously told her was nothing?
Alex must think she was a fool.
Not wanting to watch any longer, Sharon hastily stuffed her things into her bag.
She turned to leave.
"Stop!" Footsteps sounded behind her, and the next second, a large hand grabbed Sharon's wrist.
Before Sharon could react, Alex was dragging her out.
His grip was strong, and Sharon stumbled, nearly falling.
Once she regained her balance, Sharon tried to shake him off, but Alex's hand was like a vice, tightly gripping her wrist with no chance of escape.
It wasn't until Alex dragged Sharon to the stairwell that he cornered her against the wall, his eyes bloodshot as he looked down at her. "Sharon, do you still have any feelings for me?"
While holding Ava, Alex had tried to find signs of anger or sadness on Sharon's face, even just a hint, but he was disappointed.
She wasn't angry or sad; she was indifferent.
At that moment, Alex felt as if a giant hand was squeezing his heart, the unbearable pain spreading throughout his body.
What was harder for Alex to accept than Sharon not explaining was her indifference towards him.
Seeing Alex's bloodshot eyes, Sharon had her eyes flashed with sarcasm. "What do you think?"
Alex grabbed Sharon's chin, forcing her to look up at him. "Even if you don't, it doesn't matter. We have a lifetime together. One day, you'll care about me again."
Sharon slapped Alex's hand away, her whole body trembling with anger.
He wanted to be entangled with Ava and still wanted Sharon to love him as always.
He was being completely unfair to her.
"Alex, do you have to make me disgusted with you?" Sharon asked.
She originally just wanted to divorce Alex, get the property that rightfully belonged to her, and then cut ties with him forever. But Alex had gone too far.
Alex's eyes darkened. "Even if you are disgusted with me, I won't let you leave. Sharon, we're destined to be entangled for a lifetime."
'A lifetime' used to be such a beautiful word for them, but now it felt like a shackle.
"Mr. Smith, my stomach hurts." Ava's voice suddenly sounded from behind Alex. He turned around, about to tell her to leave, but seeing her pale face, his eyes darkened.
Alex turned back to Sharon and said in a low voice, "Wait for me. I'll take you home."
Sharon turned her gaze away and didn't speak.
Upon seeing her defiant expression, a hint of helplessness flickered in Alex's eyes. He let go of her and turned to Ava, his gaze turning cold. "I'll take you to the ward ."
After their figures disappeared from sight, Sharon turned and left directly.
On the way to Ava's ward
, Alex remained silent with a stern face.
Sensing the low pressure around him, Ava wanted to speak several times but ended up hesitating.
At the door of the ward , Alex was about to leave.
Ava's face turned pale, and she quickly reached out to grab him. "Mr. Smith."
Alex's icy gaze fell on Ava's hand holding his sleeve. "Let go."
Frightened by his cold eyes, Ava instinctively let go of her hand. "Mr. Smith, I just heard that Ms. Wright was also at this hospital, so I went to see her."
Alex's lips curled into a mocking smile. "You went to see her or to provoke her, you know in your heart. You don't think that just because she can't have children, you can use this child to make me marry you, do you?"
After all, before knowing that Sharon couldn't have children, Ava didn't dare to provoke Sharon even when she was pregnant.
Alex didn't expose Ava's poor acting in front of Sharon just because she was carrying his child, giving Ava some face. But that didn't mean he was a fool.
Ava's fingers trembled, and she bit her lip, looking at Alex with tears in her eyes. "Mr. Smith, that's not what I meant."
Impatience flashed in Alex's eyes. "You'd better really not mean it."
Ava bit her lip, her tone filled with disappointment. "Were you using me to test Ms. Wright just now?"
Alex knew it was her who set up Sharon, but he didn't expose her. Ava thought Alex had feelings for her too, but it turned out she was just wishful thinking.
He grabbed her chin, his eyes full of contempt. "You'd better know your place. I like smart women, but being too clever is just being foolish."
As Ava was stunned, Alex let go of her and turned to leave.
Watching his back, tears fell from Ava's eyes.
She unconsciously touched her belly. She couldn't beat Sharon now, but as long as she could give birth to this child, she would be sure to win.
One day, her and the child's importance in Alex's heart would surpass Sharon's.
Now Alex left the hospitalized Sharon alone because she was feeling unwell due to her pregnancy.
Thinking of this, a determined look flashed in Ava's eyes.
In another VIP ward on the same floor.
Hearing that Sharon had been discharged, Irene gritted her teeth in anger.
They both fell down the stairs, so why did she end up with multiple fractures, contusions, and a moderate concussion, while Sharon only had minor abrasions and a concussion?
When she fell, she tried to pull Sharon down with her, but she ended up cushioning Sharon's fall instead.
The more Irene thought about it, the angrier she got.
A knock on the door sounded, and Irene snapped, "Who is it?"
The warddoor opened, and Eugene walked in with a fruit basket, looking apologetic. "Ms. Robinson, I heard you were hospitalized, so I came to see you."
Irene was already annoyed, and her face turned even darker when she saw Eugene. "What are you doing here?"
That shabby fruit basket he was holding, even her housekeeper wouldn't look at it. Bringing such a cheap thing to see her, didn't he feel embarrassed?
Eugene put the fruit basket down and sat by the bed, sighing. "Ms. Robinson, the money you gave me last time is almost gone. My wife's medical bills are running out."
Hearing this, Irene frowned and said coldly, "I gave you a hundred thousand dollars, and it's only been a few days. Are you telling me the money's gone? Do you think I'm a billionaire?"
Eugene felt a bit guilty and awkwardly said, "I thought I shouldn't always trouble you, so I took some of it to the casino to try my luck. If I won, I wouldn't need to ask you for money . But my luck wasn't good."
Irene sneered, "What does that have to do with me? Given my relationship with Elizabeth, giving you a hundred thousand dollars was already more than generous."
When Eugene saw that Irene was reluctant to lend him money, his expression soured. "Ms. Robinson, are you planning to wash your hands off us? Don't forget, Elizabeth went to jail to help you. If she hadn't, I wouldn't be coming to you for money."
"If you don't help us, I'm afraid I won't be able to keep quiet about what Elizabeth and I did for you."
Irene's face turned cold, and a murderous look appeared in her eyes.
This middle-aged man with no background or status dared to threaten her.
Lowering her head, an idea suddenly formed in Irene's mind.
If she could execute this plan, she could get rid of both Sharon and Eugene.
Irene looked up at Eugene, a smile forming on her lips.
She said, "How could I not help? It's just that I don't have much money. But if you're willing to listen to me, I'll make sure you get a lot of money, more than you could ever spend in a lifetime."
