Chapter 418 Randy is Very Jealous
"Why'd you suddenly decide to go hiking?" Sophie asked.
"To keep Demetrius company. By the way, how are you planning to handle Dwayne?" Sharon replied.
Just hearing Dwayne's name made Sophie frown, a look of disgust flashing in her eyes. "The Carr family wants to settle it privately, but I've already reported it to the police and filed a case. Whatever the judge decides will be enforced. There's no way I'm settling privately."
Just thinking about Dwayne's disgusting face made Sophie feel nauseous. She couldn't believe she had once agreed to get engaged to him.
"Alright, I support you. Dwayne needs to get what he deserves," Sharon said.
Sophie nodded and was about to speak when her phone suddenly rang. Seeing it was a call from Randy, she picked up the phone and said, "I'll step outside to take this call."
Sharon replied, "Okay."
Sophie walked out of the villa and answered the call, "Why are you calling me all of a sudden?"
"Where are you right now?" Randy asked.
"I came to see Sharon this morning. Why do you ask?" Sophie responded.
There was a brief silence on the other end before Randy's voice came through, "I'm at your house."
"What are you doing at my house so early?" Sophie asked.
"I brought you breakfast. Didn't you say last night that you wanted steak and eggs from Starlight Diner?" Randy said.
Sophie hadn't expected him to take her offhand comment to heart, so she said, "I just mentioned it because I happened to see it."
"But I already bought breakfast, and I don't like steak and eggs," Randy said.
She wasn't sure if it was her imagination, but she thought she heard a hint of grievance in Randy's tone.
Biting her lip, she hesitated for a moment before tentatively saying, "How about I come back now?"
"Okay, I'll wait for you at your house," Randy replied.
After hanging up, Sophie turned and walked back into the villa, her tone apologetic yet tinged with urgency. "Sharon, Randy is waiting for me at my house. I have to go."
Sharon looked up at her, "Leaving so soon?"
"Yes, you take care and rest. Once your foot is better, we'll go shopping together," Sophie said.
"Alright," Sharon replied.
Walking out of the villa, Sophie started her car, and as the engine roared to life, she couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement.
Randy had been working overtime these past few days, and apart from chatting and calling each other on the phone, they hadn't had a chance to meet. Therefore, Sophie was eager to see him.
As Sophie was nearing her home, her phone on the passenger seat rang again. Taking advantage of a red light, she picked up the phone.
Seeing it was a call from her long-lost high school monitor, Domingo Vasquez, Sophie was surprised.
"Domingo, long time no see. What brings you to call me out of the blue?" Sophie asked.
A rough male voice came through, "Sophie, I'm on a business trip to Metropolis for the next few days. Some classmates working here want to get together for a meal. Are you free?"
Sophie smiled, "Sure, when?"
"Tonight at eight, in private room number one on the third floor of Culinary Oasis," Domingo responded.
"Alright, I'll be there on time," Sophie said.
"Great, see you then," Domingo said.
Hanging up just as the light turned green, Sophie eased her foot onto the gas pedal, turning right at the next intersection into the villa complex.
At the entrance of The Lee Villa, Randy was leaning against his car, looking down at his phone. His profile was gentle and handsome, exuding a warm aura.
Randy was exactly her type, both in looks and personality. Pulling up beside him, Sophie stepped out and approached him. Hearing the car, Randy looked up at her, his gaze gentle as he watched her approach.
Feeling his direct gaze, Sophie quickened her pace and reached out her hand, "Where's the breakfast?"
Randy chuckled, "Did you come back just for the breakfast?"
"Of course, it's steak and eggs from Starlight Diner. It's hard to get," Sophie said.
"I got up at five in the morning to queue for it. Don't you feel a bit sorry for me?" His eyes sparkled with affection as he looked at her.
"I'll eat breakfast first, then feel sorry for you," Sophie replied.
Randy leaned in closer, his voice low, "How do you plan to show your sympathy?"
The distance between them suddenly shortened, close enough for him to catch a faint floral scent from her, making him want to get even closer.
Sophie, staring at his handsome face, felt rooted to the spot, unable to move, with her hand at her side clenching her clothes and her heartbeat quickening.
Just as their lips were about to touch, an untimely cough sounded from behind Randy. Sophie snapped out of it, quickly stepping back, her face flushed.
Randy turned around to see Leonard and greeted him calmly, showing no signs of embarrassment. "Mr. Lee, good morning."
Leonard, not wanting to engage, snorted and walked past him to get into his car and leave.
Sophie, keeping her head down, didn't even glance at Leonard. Only after Leonard's car disappeared from view did she breathe a sigh of relief and look at Randy, "Can you be more careful next time? My dad's impression of you must be even worse now."
Randy smiled, "Alright, next time I'll be on my best behavior when I come to see you."
Sophie remained silent because she didn't believe he intended to behave.
Randy turned and took the packed steak and eggs from his car, handing it to Sophie, "I have to go to the company later. You should go inside."
Sophie took the food container, frowning, "It's Sunday, and you still have to work?"
Randy nodded, "Yes, the project we were working on hasn't been finalized yet. I'll probably be busy for a while."
Seeing the dark circles under his eyes, Sophie felt a pang of sympathy, "You still got up early to buy me breakfast and waited here for so long."
"I always have time to buy you breakfast. And you're my girlfriend; I'd wait for you as long as it takes," Randy said.
"Since you're so good to me, I'll give you a reward," Sophie said.
Randy raised an eyebrow, "What reward?"
"Lower your head first," Sophie said.
Randy lowered his head, looking at her expectantly.
Sophie stood on tiptoe and quickly kissed his cheek, then stepped back. "How about that? Is that reward enough?"
Randy looked at her, his eyes full of laughter, "If I say it's not enough, will you give me another one?"
"Of course not. You should go to the company and work hard. If I have time at noon, I'll come and have lunch with you," Sophie said.
"Really?" Randy asked.
"Yes," Sophie said.
"Then I'll wait for you at the company," Randy said.
After Randy left, Sophie, carrying the food container, walked into The Lee Villa with a smile on her face.
Around noon, Sophie was about to head to the Smith Group when she received a call from Leonard, asking her to deliver a document to the Lee Group.
The Lee Group and the Smith Group buildings weren't far apart. She messaged Randy that she might be ten minutes late, grabbed the document, and drove off. As Sophie reached Leonard's office door, it opened from the inside, and she bumped into someone coming out.
She stumbled back a few steps, almost falling, and dropped the document she was holding.
A pair of slender hands picked up the documents from the ground and handed them to her. "Sorry, I didn't mean to."
Hearing the voice, Sophie looked up sharply. Sure enough, it was Daniel who was supposed to be abroad.
"Why is it you?" Sophie asked. Her eyes were filled with shock and disbelief, but there was no joy.
Daniel felt a pang of pain in his heart, suppressing his disappointment as he spoke, "I'm here to discuss business with Mr. Lee."
Sophie's face remained impassive as she took the documents from his hand, walking past him into Leonard's office without a word.
As the office door closed, her figure disappeared behind it.
Daniel's face was filled with bitterness and sadness. He had been too confident back then and thought Sophie would never leave him. Now, thinking back, Daniel felt he had been utterly foolish.
Inside the office.
Sophie threw the documents on Leonard's desk, speaking irritably, "Dad, why did you suddenly start working with Daniel?"
Their breakup had been messy, leaving a rift not only between Sophie and Daniel but also between the Lee Group and the Thomas Group.
Leonard picked up the documents, his face calm as he said, "He came to deliver a project proposal, so of course, I accepted it."
Sophie remained silent.
"Alright, there's nothing else here. You can go back," Leonard said.
Thinking about having lunch with Randy later, Sophie hesitated for a moment but then turned and left.
Once the office door closed, Leonard breathed a sigh of relief. If Sophie had really made a fuss, he wouldn't have known how to handle her.
As Sophie walked out of the office, she saw Daniel standing not far away. He was tall and handsome, dressed in a black suit, standing there like a picturesque scene, attracting a lot of attention.
When Daniel saw her, a flicker of emotion crossed his previously calm eyes, and he walked towards her. "Sophie."
Sophie frowned and interrupted him, "Mr. Thomas, we're not close. Please be polite."
The coldness in her eyes felt like a knife to Daniel's heart, causing unbearable pain.
His face turned pale, almost transparent, "I'm sorry for what happened five years ago. These years abroad, without you by my side, I finally realized that the most important person in my heart is..."
Sophie cut him off, "Mr. Thomas, my boyfriend is waiting for me to have lunch. I don't have time to listen to your useless words. Could you please move aside?"
She smiled, looking at him with calm eyes, devoid of any past affection.
"You have a boyfriend?" Daniel's voice was light, his eyes filled with sadness, like a cracked crystal about to shatter.
Sophie smiled and nodded, "Yes, Mr. Thomas, can you move aside now?"
She didn't want any connection with Daniel anymore because just thinking about his past flirtations with other women made her feel disgusted.
Daniel looked at her, trying to find any sign of lying on her face, but there was none. Her expression was calm, and her eyes showed no emotion. She had truly moved on from her feelings for Daniel.
"I'm too late, aren't I?" Daniel asked.
Sophie frowned, not wanting to waste any more words with him, and pushed past him towards the elevator.
Despite Daniel's tall frame, her light push made him stumble back several steps, almost falling.
His secretary quickly supported him, "Mr. Thomas, are you alright?"
Daniel didn't respond, his eyes fixed on the direction Sophie had disappeared, lost in thought. The surrounding secretaries of the Lee Group exchanged shocked glances, their eyes filled with curiosity.
Soon, the news of Sophie pushing Daniel spread.
When Sophie walked into the Smith Group, she noticed the strange looks from the people around her.
At first, she thought it was her imagination until she met a female manager she knew from previous collaborations at the elevator. The manager looked like she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Sophie couldn't help but ask, "Ms. Krueger, did something happen? Why is everyone at the Smith Group looking at me so strangely today?"
Brandy Krueger hesitated for a moment but then spoke softly, "Ms. Lee, I heard something unpleasant happened between you and Mr. Thomas at the Lee Group."
Sophie and Daniel's breakup five years ago had turned into a notorious scandal that everyone at the Lee Group, particularly those who had been there for a while, still remembered vividly.
After all, five years ago, Sophie had brought a bunch of reporters to catch Daniel and his mistress in bed. The photos and videos had gone viral, and Daniel had been heavily criticized.
After that incident, Daniel went abroad and disappeared for five years. So, when Daniel and Sophie met at the Lee Group today, the news spread quickly.
Sophie frowned, "How did you know?"
She had only been at the Lee Group for about ten minutes. How did the Smith Group employees already know about her meeting with Daniel?
"Ms. Lee, the news has spread. Mr. Smith probably knows too." Krueger replied.
Hearing this, Sophie felt a headache; knowing Randy's personality, she believed he would definitely be jealous.
When Randy was still pursuing her, there was a time she had dinner with a business partner to discuss a collaboration, and they talked until after nine in the evening.
After seeing the partner off at the restaurant entrance, Sophie hadn't even had time to call a cab before Randy dragged her into his car, questioning why she had been smiling at the partner all evening.
It had been so long that she couldn't remember how she had answered, only that she and Randy had parted on bad terms that night.
If he could get jealous over a business partner she had only met a few times, he would definitely be jealous of her ex-boyfriend.
Sure enough, when Sophie walked into Randy's office, she felt the tense atmosphere. Randy was sitting behind his desk, looking at a document, not even glancing at her, clearly upset.
Sophie walked to the front of the office, smiling, "Mr. Smith, working so hard? Are you planning to skip the lunch?"
Randy glanced up at her and snorted, "I'm very jealous, not in the mood for lunch."
Sophie chuckled, "If you don't want to eat, I'll go have lunch by myself."
With that, she turned decisively and walked towards the door. She had only taken a few steps when Randy's deep voice came from behind, "Stop!"
Sophie ignored him and continued walking towards the door. Before she could reach the door, her wrist was grabbed.
"Sophie, I know I was wrong," Randy said.
Sophie turned around, meeting Randy's aggrieved eyes. The anger she had felt dissipated. But she didn't intend to let him off so easily, so she kept a stern face.
Randy's heart tightened, and he quickly apologized, "Sophie, I shouldn't have been so irrationally jealous. I'm sorry."
