Chapter 78 Why Do You Still Come Back to Me?

Being scolded by Seb, Alex's hand at his side clenched tightly with anger in his eyes. "Uncle Seb, Sharon is my wife. It's not your place to reprimand me!"

Seb sneered, "Daniel knew to rush forward to protect Emily. However, you're weak and cheat on Sharon. I really don't know how the Smiths ended up with someone as useless as you."

Alex gritted his teeth and said coldly, "At least I'm not coveting someone else's wife."

"Do you believe I can make you two divorce by tomorrow?" Seb didn't follow his plan; he just wanted to respect Sharon and help her when she made up her mind.

Hostility appeared on Alex's face. He knew Seb had the power; even if he took Sharon away from him right now, he couldn't resist.

Just because he was the general manager of Smith Group, he didn't hold any shares and couldn't compete with Seb.

"Uncle Seb, don't go too far!"

He had already tolerated so much, but Seb was becoming more and more unscrupulous. If he dared to publicly defend Sharon today, who knew what more outrageous things he'd do tomorrow.

Seb said, "If you don't want me going overboard, then treat your wife better. If you think you can gain favor by mistreating your woman, maybe I should consider taking over Smith Group again."

Panic and anger surged in Alex's heart; he knew this was Seb's warning and threat.

Seb was clearly coveting Sharon, but he couldn't say anything and had to be manipulated by him.

No matter how dissatisfied Alex was, going against Seb would only result in his own loss.

He had to get the shares from Tyler and become Smith Group's actual controller to stop being at Seb's mercy.

Thinking of this, Alex slowly exhaled.

"Sharon is my wife. Of course, I will treat her well. Uncle Seb, just mind your own business!" after saying that, he left angrily.

Seb watched his back with a cold expression, then walked toward the door.

He came here today to collaborate with Fred Campbell. Now that the deal was sealed, there was no need to stay.

Just as he walked out of the banquet hall, Sharon stopped him. "Uncle Seb, thank you for tonight."

If he hadn't shown up, Alex would've forced her not to pursue Emily's scheme.

She was genuinely grateful to him.

Seb looked at her indifferently. "No need. I helped you tonight only because you're part of the Smiths."

After saying that, he walked past her and left.

Noticing his cold attitude, Sharon lowered her eyes, hiding the fleeting disappointment.

Returning to the hall, she didn't look for Alex and just found a random seat in the back.

Meanwhile, after Daniel put Emily in the car, Emily's suppressed emotions finally erupted as she cried loudly in his arms, "Daniel, I was so scared. You have to help me get revenge!"

If Seb hadn't shown up tonight, she wouldn't have been forced to kneel and apologize to that bitch Sharon.

She knelt in public; those people might not say anything to her face, but they'd surely laugh at her behind her back.

All of this was thanks to Seb and Sharon.

Daniel didn't say anything, only silently comforting her.

After she calmed down, he said in a deep voice, "You had no grudge against Sharon, so why did you scheme against her like this?"

Emily was stunned for a moment, then bit her lower lip. "I noticed Ms. Walker didn't like Sharon. I thought since your company recently wanted to collaborate with her father's company, I'd help you out. However, I didn't expect this."

Daniel's eyes flashed coldly. So, Emily was used by Rebecca.

Although he didn't agree with Emily's actions, she did it for him.

He said, "Don't do this again. Seb is arrogant and ruthless; going against him will only bring loss."

Seeing his stern face, Emily bit her lower lip and cautiously said, "Daniel, Ms. Wright wasn't hurt tonight. It would've been over with just an apology. However, Ms. Wright wouldn't let me go. Could it be because of Ms. Lee?"

Daniel narrowed his eyes and said coldly, "You mean, she was avenging Sophie?"

Emily said, "Other than that, I can't think of any reason why she'd be so relentless."

Sharon was Sophie's good friend, and Sophie misunderstood that Daniel was with Emily. It'd make sense if Sharon was avenging Sophie tonight.

Seeing Daniel's gloomy face and silence, Emily didn't say anything more.

After all, saying more might have the opposite effect.

After more than a minute, he said coldly, "I'll take you home first."

Emily knew when to act obedient in front of him, nodding. "Okay."

Until the auction ended, Sharon didn't see the person she wanted to meet.

That person used to be an executive at Robert Pharmaceuticals. After its bankruptcy, he went to another company. He participated in the investigation of the accident back then and must know more than others.

However, he didn't come today, so she had no chance to ask him.

Following the crowd out of the banquet hall, she was about to hail a cab when Alex's voice echoed beside her. "Sharon, are you still mad about earlier?"

She turned to him, her eyes cold. "No, there's no reason to be."

Alex grabbed her wrist and leaned closer, saying lowly, "I had no choice earlier. You know, I don't have any shares even though I'm the general manager. If I offend our partners, Grandpa might demote me tomorrow."

Hearing him constantly talking about his difficulties, hoping she would understand, Sharon found it amusing.

She pulled her hand away. "I got it; I'm not mad and don't blame you."

After all, she no longer loved him and held no expectations.

However, to Alex, her words were just an excuse because she was utterly disappointed in him.

He said, "Sharon, just bear with it a little longer. Once I get the shares and become Smith Group's actual controller, I won't let anyone bully you again."

Sharon pursed her lips and said slowly, "I really don't care about these things; you don't need to make any promises to me."

Once she found out the truth about the Robert Pharmaceuticals accident, she'd divorce Alex.

In the end, she was just using him now, so she had no reason to complain when he chose to sacrifice her.

Alex's eyes flashed coldly Sharon's words made his heart sink.

If she still cared about him, she wouldn't say such calm words.

Her indifference only meant she had no feelings for him anymore.

His heart felt like it was being squeezed tightly. Alex looked at Sharon with a bitter expression. "Sharon, why did you come back if you don't love me anymore?"
