Chapter 141 Don't Be Afraid, I'm Here
As soon as the call connected, Karen's frantic voice came through, "Where are you? Your dad went to the Smith family for you, and they gave him a hard time. He drank to apologize and ended up in the ER!"
Sharon felt a loud buzz in her head, her whole body frozen. It took her a few seconds to react.
"I'm coming right away!"
She was trembling all over as she spoke.
Sophie woke up then, noticing Sharon's distress. She quickly got up. "Sharon, what's wrong?"
Sharon looked up, eyes red and tears streaming. "My dad had an accident and is in the ER. I can't drive."
Sophie's face darkened. She grabbed Sharon's hand. "We drank a lot last night; we can't drive either. Let's take a cab."
She pulled Sharon out of the bar and hailed a cab to the hospital.
When they arrived at the ER, the surgery had just ended.
Dr. Steven Jackson looked exhausted but angry. "I've told you every time that the patient can't smoke or drink. Yet you let him drink so much. If he had been sent later, not even a miracle could have saved him!"
"Dr. Jackson, I'm sorry. I'll be more careful in the future. Thank you."
Sharon bowed her head, tears still falling.
On the way there, Sharon had been in a panic. If Robert hadn't been saved, she would never forgive herself.
"You don't need to apologize to me. If you really care, keep a close eye on him and don't let him harm himself!"
With that, Dr. Jackson walked past them and left.
Back in the ward, Robert was still unconscious, and Karen was sitting by the bed, wiping her tears.
"Aunt Karen, what exactly happened?"
She had thought Robert would wait a few days before going to the Smith family, but he had gone yesterday.
Karen looked at Sharon, her face grim. "After you left yesterday, your dad secretly contacted the Smith family to apologize. He wanted them to let you go. Tyler made him wait at the door for over two hours. Later, Tyler finally agreed to see him. I don't know what happened after that, only that your dad suddenly vomited blood and fainted. The hospital called me to come over."
Sharon took a deep breath, barely able to suppress her anger. She cursed inwardly, 'The Smith family was way out of line!'
"I understand."
Karen hesitated before speaking, "Sharon, you can't fight the Smith family. Your dad's health can't take another hit. I'm begging you, please stop, okay?"
Sharon's hand tightened unconsciously at her side. She lowered her eyes and said, "Aunt Karen, I'll handle this. Please take care of my dad."
As they walked out of the ward, Sophie looked at Sharon with concern. "Sharon, what are you going to do?"
"Sophie, thank you for today. You should go home."
Seeing Sharon's unusual expression, Sophie frowned. "Sharon, don't be impulsive. You need to stay calm right now."
Sophie was worried Sharon might do something extreme because of Robert.
Sharon smiled, "Don't worry, I'm very calm."
She had never been so clear-headed, knowing exactly what she needed to do.
"Maybe I should stay with you."
"Don't worry. I promise I won't rush to the Smith family and make a scene. Does that make you feel better?"
Seeing that Sharon seemed genuinely calm, Sophie finally nodded. "If you need any help, just let me know."
"Okay."
It wasn't until Sophie walked away at the end of the hallway that Sharon's smile slowly faded. Her expression turned cold as she headed to Dr. Jackson's office.
Seeing Sharon, Dr. Jackson's face still looked a bit grim.
"Ms. Wright, is there something you need?"
Sharon nodded and sat down across from Dr. Jackson, getting straight to the point. "Dr. Jackson, I'm planning to send my dad abroad for treatment."
After leaving Dr. Jackson's office, Sharon didn't return to the ward but went home instead.
As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw that the door to her home was open, and the living room was a mess.
Sharon's expression was indifferent. After walking in, she found that the house had been thoroughly ransacked, even the kitchen and bathroom weren't spared.
Sharon walked to the living room and sat down. She was about to call the police but paused and dialed another number instead.
When Seb arrived, Sharon was sitting on the couch in a daze.
Hearing footsteps, she looked up, her eyes red and filled with helplessness and fear.
"Uncle Seb, you're here."
Seb walked over, his voice serious, "Are you okay?"
Sharon shook her head. "I'm fine. Sophie and I were at the bar yesterday. I came back to find it like this."
Seb frowned. "Did you call the police?"
"I did. They should be here soon."
"Alright, you can't stay here. I'll have Paul find you a new place."
"Can I stay at your place for the next few days?"
The room fell silent, so quiet they could hear each other's breathing.
Seb's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Do you know what you're saying?"
His straightforward gaze seemed to see through everything, making Sharon feel exposed.
Sharon forced herself to meet Seb's eyes and nodded. "I know."
Seb looked at her and chuckled lightly. "I thought it would take you a bit longer to figure things out."
He knew Sharon wanted to be with him just to take advantage of him, but that was okay. One day, Sharon would fall in love with him.
Sharon pressed her lips together, about to speak, when footsteps came from the door. The police had arrived.
Apart from giving a statement, Seb handled the rest with the police, while Sharon occasionally answered a question or two.
After the police left, Seb looked at Sharon. "I still need to go to the office. Do you want to come with me, or should I pick you up after work?"
"I need to tidy up the house and pack some clothes."
Seb nodded. "Alright, I've arranged for someone to protect you. Call me if you need anything."
Seb's expression remained cool, but there was a hint of warmth in his eyes. Sharon couldn't help but feel a ripple in her heart.
Sharon looked away and nodded. "Okay."
The next second, she found herself in a warm embrace.
Seb's dry, warm hand patted her head, his voice low and gentle, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Sharon stiffened for a moment, then wrapped her arms around Seb's waist, closing her eyes and silently saying sorry in her heart.
She didn't want to drag Seb into it, but now, being with Seb was the only way she could fight the Smith family.
She was too selfish, unworthy of Seb's feelings.
Sensing Sharon's response, Seb tightened his hold on her for a few more seconds before finally letting go.
"I'll come to pick you up."
Seb's gaze was much more intense than before, making Sharon's face heat up. She lowered her head and said, "Okay."
Sharon's shy and timid look made Seb's eyes darken for a few seconds before he regained his composure.
After Seb left, Sharon patted her blushed cheeks. Once she calmed down, she began to tidy up the messy house.
It was already past three in the afternoon by the time she finished. Sharon made herself a cup of tea and sat on the couch, her fingers tapping unconsciously on the cup.
Alex had sent people to trash her home; she had to return the favor.
After thinking for a moment, Sharon dialed a number for an entertainment news outlet.
By evening, a piece of gossip had taken over the headlines of major entertainment tabloids.
[Shocking! Smith Group Ex-CEO Marries Mistress on Divorce Day!]
The news instantly caught everyone's attention during the boring evening commute, and people started gossiping.
It wasn't long before the news reached Tyler and Sandra.
Tyler immediately called Alex, berating him and ordering him to suppress the news within an hour.
When Alex called, Sharon was making dinner.
Knowing Alex would contact her, Sharon had taken him off the blacklist.
As soon as she answered, Alex's almost roaring voice came through the phone.
"Sharon, how could you be so vicious? The thing I regret most is falling in love with you and marrying you against the Smith family's wishes!"
Sharon sprinkled some seasoning into the soup, thinking Alex's voice had never sounded so pleasant.
She chuckled softly and said slowly, "Don't worry, you'll have plenty more moments to regret. Today won't be the last time."
