Chapter 419 I Won't Forget What Needs to Be Done

Seeing Randy's genuine apology, Sophie finally relaxed a bit. "Randy, since we're together, I'm not going to mess around with other guys. I just bumped into Daniel today, and you got all jealous for no reason. Do you think that's fair?"

Randy quickly shook his head, "No, it's not fair. I promise I won't do it again!"

Seeing him like this, Sophie felt the last bit of anger in her heart melt away. "Put yourself in my shoes. If you talked to another woman and I got jealous for no reason, wouldn't you find it weird?"

"No, if you did that, I'd be happy. It would show that you care about me," Randy said.

Sophie fell silent because she really had nothing to say.

Seeing her speechless, Randy quickly changed the subject to avoid making her angry again, "By the way, the Smith Group's cafeteria is pretty good. You didn't get a chance to try it when you came to discuss the collaboration. How about I take you there today?"

"Okay," Sophie said.

Randy held her hand and led her outside.

Meanwhile, in the back seat of a black Cayenne parked by the Smith Group Building, Daniel frowned as he looked at the documents in his hand, gripping them tightly, exuding an intimidating cold aura.

The documents detailed Sophie's experiences over the past five years. When Daniel saw that Dwayne had drugged Sophie, his eyes narrowed, and a slow smile appeared on his lips.

The secretary beside him was so scared by his expression that his legs went weak. Usually, when Daniel showed this expression, it meant he was going to deal with someone.

He closed the file and said calmly, "Within three days, I want the Carr Group to disappear from Metropolis."

The secretary lowered his head, not daring to breathe, "Yes, sir."

The car fell silent. After a moment of hesitation, the secretary spoke up, "Mr. Thomas, our main reason for returning to the country this time is to find Sharon and get her..."

Before he could finish, Daniel interrupted him expressionlessly, "What's the rush? Don't worry, I won't forget what needs to be done. Just do as I say."

An overwhelming pressure filled the car, making it hard for the secretary to breathe. He quickly lowered his head even further and stopped talking.

Daniel's fingers tapped rhythmically on the back of the seat, his eyes half-closed, lost in thought.

The news of Daniel's return to the country quickly reached Sharon.

The servant brought over an invitation while she was playing with Demetrius. "Ms. Roach, this is an invitation from the Thomas family, inviting you and Mr. Roach to Mr. Thomas's welcome banquet tomorrow night."

Sharon paused, raising an eyebrow, "Which Mr. Thomas?"

She didn't recall knowing anyone with the last name Thomas, but the invitation specifically mentioned her and Seb.

"Daniel Thomas, the eldest son of the Thomas family," the servant said.

Sharon took the invitation and opened it; seeing Daniel's name, she was a bit surprised.

Back when Sophie was with Daniel, Sharon had dined with him a few times. She thought Daniel would be Sophie's future, but he gave her up for a so-called childhood friend.

"Alright, I got it," Sharon said.

After the servant left, Sharon took the invitation to the study.

Knowing it was from the Thomas family, Seb wasn't too surprised. He said calmly, "You can decide whether to go or not."

"It's not that. I'm just curious why Daniel went abroad," Sharon said.

Seb put down the documents in his hand and briefly explained what happened between Sophie and Daniel. After hearing it, Sharon was furious, "That jerk! How dare he come back!"

Seb walked over to her and gently patted her back, "Alright, it's not worth getting angry over someone like that. Besides, Sophie is with Randy now, and Randy will protect her."

"That's different," Sharon said.

Just because Sophie was happy now didn't mean Daniel's past harm to her didn't exist.

"If you don't like Daniel, you don't have to attend the banquet," Seb said.

Sharon was about to speak when Seb's phone suddenly rang.

Seeing it was from the hospital, Seb looked serious, and he quickly answered.

The other side said, "Mr. Smith, Mr. Wright's condition has improved significantly. He can be discharged now. When would you be available to handle the discharge procedures?"

Hearing this, Seb felt a bit relieved, "I'll be there right away."

Sharon also heard the nurse's words. As soon as Seb hung up, she said, "I'll go with you."

"Alright," Seb said.

On the way to the hospital, Sharon was thinking about where to place Robert. The best scenario would be to have Robert live with them so she could take care of him. But now she and Demetrius were living in Seb's villa, and Seb might not want Robert to move in.

As she was pondering, the car arrived at the hospital entrance.

"Sharon?" Seb said.

Sharon snapped back to reality and looked at Seb, "I got lost in thought for a moment."

"What were you thinking about? You seemed so absorbed," Seb asked.

"Nothing much. Let's go handle the discharge procedures," Sharon said.

She avoided Seb's gaze, unbuckled her seatbelt, and got out of the car. Seb's eyes flickered, but he didn't press further.

In less than ten minutes, they arrived at Robert's hospital room.

Sharon was about to push the door open when she heard sobbing from inside. "Robert, I had no choice back then. I still love you. I hope you can forgive me."

Recognizing Karen's voice, Sharon frowned and pushed the door open.

Inside the room, Robert and Karen both looked towards the door. Seeing Sharon, Robert was initially surprised, then became excited and happy, while Karen was shocked and in disbelief.

Leo had told Karen that Sharon wasn't dead and had returned to Metropolis, but Karen didn't believe it. But now, seeing her standing right in front of her, she finally believed it.

She wiped her tears and looked at Sharon with red eyes, "Sharon, I can't believe you're really alive. How have you been these past five years?"

Sharon's expression was cold, "Ms. Wendy, you and my dad are divorced. We have no relationship anymore. I don't need to report my whereabouts to you. I'm here to discharge my dad. If you have nothing else, please leave."

Back then, Karen had played a significant role in the strained relationship between Sharon and Robert, so Sharon had no goodwill towards her.

Karen's expression stiffened briefly before she managed to force a smile. "Sharon, I was just concerned about you, nothing more."

Although Karen was over fifty, she was well-maintained and had been living a life of luxury for the past few years, so she looked like she was in her early thirties. At this moment, Karen's cautious demeanor made her seem somewhat pitiable.

In the past, Robert would have spoken up for Karen, but now he just watched coldly.

After Robert married Karen, he did everything he could for her and Leo. Even when he was bedridden with illness, he left them a sum of money for security.

But shortly after Robert had a kidney transplant, Karen suddenly asked for a divorce.

When she left, she told him she didn't want to be confined to the hospital and home for the rest of her life; she wanted to live her own life and be free.

Not long after, Karen quickly married a wealthy businessman.

Now, Karen was back in front of Robert, crying about how the businessman treated her poorly and saying she wanted to return to Robert, claiming she still loved him, but Robert didn't believe a word of it.

"We were married for nearly ten years. Even though we're divorced now, I don't want to speak ill of you. Just leave and don't come looking for me again. I don't want to see you," Robert said calmly.

As soon as he finished speaking, Karen's tears fell. "Robert, are you really this heartless?"

"I don't know what you think you can get from me, but you're destined to get nothing. You can leave now," Robert said.

Karen's expression stiffened, her gaze briefly lingering on the key hanging around Robert's neck before she looked away. "Robert, take care of yourself. I'll come to see you next time."

Robert didn't respond, his expression indifferent.

Karen grabbed her bag, greeted Sharon and Seb, and then left.

After she left, Seb said to Sharon, "I'll go handle the discharge procedures. You stay here with Mr. Wright."

"Okay," Sharon said.

In less than half an hour, Seb had completed the discharge procedures. When he returned to the room, Sharon was packing Robert's things.

"Sharon, after Mr. Wright is discharged, he should move to the villa with us," Seb said.

Sharon paused in her packing, looked up at Seb, and shook her head, "No, my dad just said he feels well enough to live on his own."

"Then I'll find him a place," Seb said.

"The old house where he and my mom used to live is still there. He plans to stay there. I've already arranged for someone to clean it, and he can move in today," Sharon said.

Seeing that they had already decided, Seb nodded, "Alright."

Sharon quickly finished packing, and Seb drove Robert back.

An hour later, the car stopped in front of an old residential building.

This neighborhood was quite old and the environment wasn't great, so most of the residents were elderly.

Seeing the car parked downstairs, many people peeked out of their windows, curious about who had arrived.

Sharon and Seb got out of the car and helped Robert out of the back seat.

Robert looked up at the residential building, his eyes filled with nostalgia.

This place held over a decade of memories for Robert and Sharon's mother, Carolyn Roach. After Carolyn passed away, Robert received his first investment and gradually built Robert Pharmaceuticals, moving to a bigger house with Sharon.

But he never sold this place. Whenever he missed Carolyn, he would come here, feeling as if she were still by his side. Sharon helped Robert upstairs. These old-style buildings had a central staircase with one apartment on the left and one on the right.

Robert lived in 301. The house had been cleaned, and the door was open to air it out.

Since it hadn't been lived in for years, a musty smell of dust hit them as soon as they walked in.

The cleaner Sharon had hired was tidying up the kitchen. Hearing the noise, she came out and smiled at Sharon, "Ms. Roach, I've cleaned the rest of the place. You can check it out. I'll finish up the kitchen soon."

"Thank you," Sharon said.

"It's no trouble. I'll get back to work," the cleaner said.

Sharon nodded, "Alright."

The cleaner quickly went back to the kitchen, and soon the sound of cleaning resumed.

Sharon helped Robert sit on the sofa. His eyes roamed the living room, filled with memories.

Seeing the height marks on the wall near the entrance, Robert smiled, "Sharon, go stand by those height marks. Let me see how tall you are now."

Following his gaze, Sharon couldn't help but smile. She walked over to the entrance and leaned against the wall.

The highest mark barely reached Sharon's waist. Robert sighed, "I remember the last height mark was made by Carolyn."

Sharon nodded, a hint of sadness in her eyes.

Shortly after marking that height, Carolyn died in a car accident, and Sharon didn't get to see her one last time.

Later, as Robert got busier with work, her height was never recorded again.

When Robert's company started to thrive, he moved Sharon to a bigger house.

Looking back, Sharon realized Robert had probably been trying to distract himself from the thoughts of Carolyn with work.

They moved away to avoid the painful memories. Seeing both Robert and Sharon fall silent, the atmosphere growing somber, Seb spoke up, "Sharon, which one is your room? Show me."

He was curious about what Sharon's childhood room looked like.

Sharon pushed aside her sadness and pointed to the room on the left, "That's my room."

The door had a sticker of Tom from "Tom and Jerry Tales," with the cat's ears and paws missing, and the remaining part yellowed with age.

Sharon walked to the door, took a deep breath, and slowly pushed it open. As soon as the door opened, memories flooded back.

When Sharon couldn't sleep at night, Carolyn would sit on the bed and tell her stories. When she was learning to write, Carolyn would gently hold her hand, teaching her how to use the pen and write beautifully. When she was sick, Carolyn would stay up all night to take care of her.

Sharon blinked, pushing back the tears, and stepped into the room.

Seb followed her, looking around the small bedroom that was simple, with a wooden desk, a chair, a bed, and a small wardrobe.

The bed was covered with an old-fashioned floral bedspread and blanket, neatly folded with a small pillow on top.

Seb could tell the room was regularly cleaned, as it was spotless.

He could almost picture a young Sharon sitting at the desk by the window, doing her homework. A smile tugged at his lips.

He sat on Sharon's bed, looking at her with a smile, "Do you have any childhood photos? I'd love to see what you looked like as a kid."

His tall frame made the small bed seem even smaller.

"Yes, let me find them," Sharon replied.
