Chapter 36 Opportunities Still Existed

After breakfast, Sharon headed straight to Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals.

Susan had already sent a message informing Sharon that she could return to work as usual and that the company would handle the situation with Elizabeth.

Sharon did not expect to be stopped by a middle-aged man as soon as she reached the entrance.

Eugene Jones, with a face full of anxiety and bloodshot eyes, pleaded, "Ms. Wright, please spare my daughter. My wife was in a car accident and is still in the hospital. If anything happens to our family, we are doomed."

Seeing the resemblance between Eugene and Elizabeth, Sharon couldn't help but take a step back. "I don't have a problem with Elizabeth, but if she's trying to come after me, I'm not looking to forgive her."

Sharon prepared to leave, but Eugene blocked her again and said, "I'm begging you! I'm at my wit's end. Can you please spare Elizabeth? I'm willing to do anything to earn your forgiveness."

Eugene knelt in front of her, and although Sharon felt disgusted, his plea made her even more uneasy. Just because his family was in trouble, did that mean Elizabeth could shirk her responsibilities?

"No matter what, I will not issue a letter of forgiveness. The court will decide, and it has nothing to do with me." Sharon pushed him aside and walked away quickly.

Irene stood across the street, watching everything unfold, a cold smile curling at the corners of her mouth. Once this video was posted online, Sharon would undoubtedly become the target of public criticism, and her reputation would be utterly destroyed.

Eugene walked up to Irene and whispered flatteringly, "Ms. Robinson, I did as you instructed. About my wife's medical expenses..."

"Don't worry. I just arranged for someone to pay twenty thousand dollars, which should be enough until Elizabeth gets out of the detention center." Irene's face remained expressionless, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes.

Eugene said, "Thank you, Ms. Robinson. You are truly a good person. My whole family will really appreciate what you've done."

Irene waved him off with a few words and handed the video to an advertising company to spread it widely.

Due to her hand injury, Sharon couldn't enter the lab for operations and could only read literature and research experimental directions at her workstation.

Shortly after she sat down, Betty came over and asked, "Sharon, how's your hand?"

Sharon replied, "It's much better. The doctor said I shouldn't get it wet, but it should heal in about half a month."

"Good to hear that." Betty hesitated for a moment, then stared at Sharon and said, "By the way, when the flask exploded yesterday, everyone ran out, but Mr. Smith rushed towards you. Does he have feelings for you?"

In times of danger, most people would avoid it, but Seb chose to protect.

Sharon was stunned for a moment, then frowned. "You're overthinking it. He's my uncle."

"What?" Betty's voice instantly rose, attracting the attention of everyone in the research department. Her cheeks flushed, and she quickly lowered her head. "Are you joking? You don't have the same last name. Is this true?"

"I wouldn't lie to you. The specifics are inconvenient to explain, but Mr. Smith and I can't have any romantic relationship."

Although still a bit hesitant, seeing Sharon's seriousness, Betty could only nod in agreement. "Alright."

"Let's save the curiosity for later and focus on work." Sharon opened her computer and logged onto the internet to check the literature.

The morning passed quickly, and near noon, Sharon received a call from Karen.

Sharon asked, "Karen, what's up? Did something happen to my dad?"

Karen's tone was gentle. "No, he's stable now. Are you free for lunch today? I'd like to treat you to a meal."

"I'm far from the hospital. How about we meet in the evening?" Sharon suggested and Karen agreed.

After hanging up, Sharon felt puzzled. Why did Karen suddenly invite her to dinner?

In the evening, Sharon walked into Golden Harvest Diner and happened to see a familiar car parked in front of the restaurant through the window. The back door opened, and Ava got out first.

Ava looked stunning, in a red strapless gown, with her long hair draped over her shoulders and her makeup meticulously done.

Next, Alex got out of the car, and Ava skillfully linked her arm with his as they walked inside.

If Sharon weren't Alex's wife, seeing such a scene would inevitably make her sigh at how well-matched Alex and Ava seemed.

Sharon recalled Alex's whispered promises during their wedding, vowing to hold her hand for a lifetime. Now, those promises seemed entirely forgotten.

Alex and Ava didn't notice Sharon and went into a private room. Sharon's heart sank, and as she came back to her senses, she saw that Karen had also arrived.

After ordering, Sharon looked at Karen seriously and said, "Karen, there must be a reason behind inviting me to lunch, right?"

Karen nodded, looking at her gently. "I heard about the issue you had with Alex. With all the focus on your dad, I didn't get a chance to talk to you about it. How are things now?"

Sharon bit her lower lip, her hand trembling slightly as she gripped the porcelain cup. "Karen, why are you asking so suddenly?"

Karen sighed and said slowly, "I recently saw Alex at the hospital with a woman. Is it..."

Sharon's heart tightened, and she hurriedly nodded. "Yes."

"As I thought." Karen's face showed barely concealed anger as she coldly asked, "What are you planning to do about it?"

Karen had originally thought Alex would be a good partner for Sharon, but now she realized she had misjudged him.

"I'm planning to get a divorce, but he doesn't want to split the assets evenly. Now I have to find evidence of his infidelity." Sharon looked at Karen with a determined tone, but she felt a faint unease inside.

Karen frowned. "Given his family's background, they probably won't want to give you any assets. Besides, your dad is still in the hospital waiting for a kidney donor. We can't help you."

If Robert Pharmaceuticals hadn't gone bankrupt, Alex wouldn't be acting so recklessly.

"Karen, please don't tell my dad yet. I'm afraid he won't be able to handle the news." Sharon pleaded.

Karen nodded. "I understand. Don't worry."

After finishing their meal, as they were settling the bill, Alex happened to come out of the private room.

Sharon quickly turned to block Karen's view and said, "Karen, I have something to do. Let me take you back to the hospital."

"If you're busy, I can go back by myself," Karen replied politely.

"It's fine. I have something to tell you." Sharon urged her to leave the restaurant quickly. They hurried out, managing to avoid running into Alex. If Karen had seen Alex, she might have confronted him, and Sharon feared things would get out of control.

As Alex walked out of the private room, he caught a glimpse of Sharon's back and raised an eyebrow in surprise. Was that really Sharon?

He turned his attention back to Ava, who was still speaking softly to him, and hesitated for a moment but didn't say anything.

When they reached the car, Karen saw Sharon's cute pink car and smiled. "This car is so cute. It suits you well."

"I think so too. I fell in love with it at first sight." Sharon smiled slightly.

After getting in the car, Sharon took out a sealed bag from the back seat and handed it to Karen. "Karen, there's forty thousand dollars in cash here. Use twenty thousand for my dad's medical bills, and keep the rest for yourself."

Karen was stunned. "Where did you get the money?"

Sharon explained, "Alex gave me a bag before. I sold it to a friend, and it fetched exactly forty thousand dollars in cash. So, I plan to give it to you in installments to prevent any unwanted attention."

Seeing her calm expression, Karen felt deeply moved and even a bit guilty. "We're the ones who've been a drag on you."

Sharon said, "Karen, this has nothing to do with you. I used to think that Alex and I could share our assets, but I was too naive."

Sharon, who had given up her research achievements for Alex, now understood that without personal career and financial independence, she was like a bird in a cage. But fortunately, her opportunities still existed.
