Chapter 7 Job Hunting
Alex said, "Seb, I understand."
His gaze at Seb carried a hint of displeasure and wariness.
Seb chuckled lightly and nonchalantly looked away. "Let's go eat."
After Seb left, Alex reached out to grab Sharon's hand, but she avoided him and walked straight ahead without looking back.
Alex held back his emotions, quickly caught up and grabbed her hand, whispering, "If you don't want me to talk to your dad, then behave!"
Sharon stopped angrily, a wave of bitterness and helplessness surging within her.
She regretted listening to Alex and returning to be a housewife. If she hadn't, she wouldn't be under his control and threats now.
She just wanted to completely break free from Alex, find a job first, and then think about how to earn money for her dad's medical bills. Otherwise, there was no point in fighting for a divorce.
After figuring this out, Sharon let him lead her to the restaurant.
Alex smirked, thinking Sharon had listened to his persuasion.
After dinner, everyone went their separate ways and headed home.
The car pulled up to the entrance of the mansion, and Alex didn't rush to get out but instead locked the car doors.
Sharon frowned at him. "What are you doing?"
Alex said, "Let's talk."
"If you want to talk about the divorce, there's no need. I'm not planning to bring it up for now."
A dangerous glint flashed in Alex's eyes. "For now?"
"Yes." Sharon's expression was cold.
Alex pressed his lips tightly, showing dissatisfaction.
He knew Sharon well after all these years. It would take some time for her to accept his infidelity. But as long as she didn't bring up divorce, he still had a chance to win her back.
He nodded and said, "Sharon, thank you for giving me this chance. I appreciate it."
Sharon didn't respond, looking at him expressionlessly. "Can you unlock the door now? I'm tired and want to rest."
As soon as the car lock clicked open, Sharon quickly pushed the door open and walked into the mansion without looking back. Only then did she feel the suffocating feeling slowly dissipate.
When Alex reached the bedroom door, he found it locked.
He shook his head helplessly and then couldn't help but laugh.
When they first got married, sometimes when he was too harsh on her, she would lock the bedroom door the next day to show her displeasure. Only after she calmed down would she allow him into the room.
Thinking of this, Alex's smile deepened. He thought, 'It's okay. Take it slow. As long as she stays by my side and still has feelings for me, there will be a day when she forgives me.'
In the bedroom, Sharon wasn't thinking about all that; she was busy picking out clothes for tomorrow's interview.
She took a photo of her chosen outfit and sent it to Sophie for her opinion. Sophie immediately called back.
Sophie asked, "Your issues with Alex aren't resolved yet. Why are you suddenly thinking about work?"
Sharon's tone was calm. "I need to make money. Once I have enough money to cover my dad's medical and living expenses, then I'll talk about divorce."
Sophie continued, "And until then? Live with him?"
Sharon replied, "Living under the same roof ain't gonna work. I plan to look at apartments after the interview tomorrow and move out as soon as possible."
She knew she couldn't rush into a divorce.
Without a job or money, even if she needed to hire a lawyer, she would have to pay the fees. Moreover, she couldn't hire just any ordinary lawyer to go up against the Smith Group's professional legal team.
Alex betrayed her in their marriage; why should she end up with nothing? If not for her capabilities and the reality of her family situation, she would even want Alex to get nothing in the divorce. That way, she wouldn't feel any burden about her dad's medical bills.
Back then, she gave him her research results, helping him earn at least a billion dollars, while her dad's medical expenses were just a small amount.
Sophie asked, "Which company are you interviewing with tomorrow?"
Sharon replied, "Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals."
"Are you planning to continue with drug research and development?"
Sharon said, "Yes, although I haven't worked in the past few years, I've always kept up with the field, and I haven't forgotten my previous knowledge. Besides, I don't know how to do anything else but research and development."
Sophie suggested, "Come to our company. I'll recommend you."
Sharon couldn't help but smile slightly. "You complain about your boss every day. So to me, your boss is just someone who exploits employees. Are you sure you want to recommend me to your company?"
There was a sudden silence on the other end of the line, followed by an abrupt male voice, "Sophie, when did I ever exploit employees?"
His voice seemed a bit distant from Sophie's phone, sounding somewhat ethereal, but Sharon could still clearly sense the danger.
Sophie let out a couple of awkward laughs and quickly said, "Sharon, something came up here. I can't talk right now. Remember to message me after your interview tomorrow, and we'll have lunch together."
Sophie then hurriedly hung up the phone.
Sharon raised an eyebrow slightly, noticing it was already past ten at night.
She thought, 'At this hour, Sophie is still with her boss. It seems there are things I don't know about, and I'll have to question her thoroughly tomorrow.'
After putting down her phone, Sharon hesitated for a moment and then chose a light green dress, which wouldn't be too attention-grabbing but would show that she took the interview seriously.
After showering and drying her hair, Sharon finished her skincare routine and went to bed.
Meanwhile, in the study.
Alex hesitated for a long time before anonymously posting online, asking how to make up with his wife after cheating.
Unexpectedly, all the replies advised him to divorce and let his wife go, which infuriated Alex. He ended up deleting the post.
However, when Alex saw the screensaver photo of Sharon, his expression softened a bit.
After breakfast, Sharon changed her clothes and drove to Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals for the interview.
After the interview, HR told her to wait at home for the results, promising to inform her within three days.
As left Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals, Sharon sent Sophie a message asking which restaurant they would have lunch at. Sophie quickly replied with an address.
Sharon put away her phone and started the navigation to the restaurant.
She didn't notice that not far away, a woman in a white lab coat with exquisite makeup, Irene Robinson, was staring at her intently, her brows slightly furrowed.
Another woman in a white lab coat standing next to Irene followed her gaze, only to see the tail end of Sharon's car disappearing around the corner.
The woman asked, "Irene, what are you looking at?"
Irene shook her head and said softly, "Nothing. I thought I saw someone I knew, but I might have been mistaken."
"Is it a friend of yours?"
A hint of disgust flashed in Irene's eyes as she calmly said, "No, just someone I really dislike."
"Anyone you dislike must not be a good person." The woman beside her spoke in a sycophantic tone, which Irene found quite pleasing.
Irene said, "Forget it. Let's not talk about her. No need to ruin the mood."
