Chapter 440 I'm Doing This for You

Seb held her close, a satisfied grin on his face. "Thanks for the compliment," he said.

Sharon couldn't help but laugh at his serious expression.

As soon as they stepped into the living room, Demetrius came running towards them on his little legs. In his excitement, he tripped just before reaching Sharon and tumbled forward.

Sharon quickly caught him and helped him steady himself. "Demetrius, slow down next time, okay? Be careful."

Demetrius handed her a piece of chocolate, his face beaming with pride. "Mom, I got a gold star at kindergarten today. This is the chocolate my teacher gave me as a reward. It's for you."

He knew Sharon loved sweets, so he saved it just for her.

Looking down at Demetrius's eager eyes, Sharon felt a wave of tenderness and took the chocolate from his hand. Since Demetrius had been holding it, the chocolate inside the wrapper had already melted.

"Thank you, Demetrius. Why did your teacher give you a gold star?" Sharon asked.

Demetrius lifted his chin, his little face full of excitement. "During nap time, Mike Soderberg kept pulling Nola Saunders' hair and made her cry, so I told the teacher. Then my teacher scolded Mike, made him apologize to Nola, and gave me a gold star to encourage everyone to report stuff like that."

Sharon smiled at his words. "Demetrius, you did a great job. Mommy will reward you too. Tomorrow, I'll buy you that Lego set you've been wanting."

When it came to raising her child, Sharon was always clear about rewards and punishments, never spoiling him too much.

Back in Aidamore, Demetrius was always well-behaved and rarely caused any trouble. Since moving to Metropolis, his personality had become much more lively, finally showing the traits of a kid his age.

Demetrius shook his head and said sensibly, "No need, Mom. That Lego set is too expensive. Just give me a kiss!"

Seb and Sharon worked so hard to earn money, so he didn't want to spend so much. If he saved a little, maybe Mom and Dad wouldn't have to work so hard.

Sharon's eyes flashed with surprise, and she kissed him on the cheek with a smile. "It's not expensive. This kiss is an extra reward."

Demetrius hesitated for a moment but stuck to his decision. "Mom, I really don't need a new Lego set."

If he wanted to play, he could take apart the old ones and reassemble them. Seeing that he really didn't want it, Sharon felt a bit puzzled.

After all, Demetrius used to love Lego so much that every time they went out, he couldn't resist going into a Lego store. Now that she offered to buy it for him, why would he refuse?

After thinking for a moment, Sharon focused on the word "expensive" that he mentioned earlier.

She squatted down in front of Demetrius and looked him in the eye. "Demetrius, why do you think that Lego set is expensive?"

Demetrius was quiet for a bit, then hesitantly said, "Mom, you and Dad work so hard to earn money. I don't want you to work so hard. If I spend less, will you not have to work so hard?"

Sharon was taken aback, not expecting that to be the reason. Thinking about how Seb had been leaving early and coming home late recently, Sharon roughly understood why Demetrius refused.

She reached out and patted Demetrius's head, speaking softly, "Demetrius, we don't usually spend money recklessly. It's because you did well today that we're rewarding you. You don't have to worry, we can afford a toy."

Demetrius nodded. "Okay."

Sharon said, "Alright, you should be happy to receive a gift, not sullen. Go wash your hands and eat."

Demetrius replied, "OK."

After dinner, Seb went to the study to work. It wasn't until late at night that he returned to the bedroom.

Seeing that Sharon was still awake, he frowned. "Didn't I tell you not to wait up for me? Staying up late is bad for you."

Sharon said, "I'm not waiting for you tonight, I just can't sleep."

Seb asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"

Sharon originally wanted to tell him about Demetrius, but after thinking about it, she shook her head. "Nothing, I just can't sleep."

He already worked so hard every day, so she didn't want to burden him with more.

"Sharon, your worries are written all over your face. If you don't tell me, will you be able to sleep tonight?" Seb looked at her with a smile.

Though exhaustion weighed heavily on him from the relentless demands of his job, Seb knew that he needed to strike a balance between work and family. Neglecting Sharon and Demetrius was something he couldn't justify to himself.

"Alright." After hesitating for a moment, Sharon finally voiced her concerns. "We've both been very busy lately, and we've been neglecting Demetrius a bit."

Seb pursed his lips. "I've noticed that too. I've not only neglected Demetrius but also you. So, I plan to take a day off this week for the three of us to go out and have fun."

When Sharon heard this, her eyes showed a hint of heartache. "If you take a day off, you'll be very tired. I was actually thinking that if you don't have meetings in the evening, you could bring your work home and spend some time playing with Demetrius."

Seb nodded, "I'll consider that too, but I also need to make time for you both. After all, work is never-ending."

Looking into Seb's serious eyes, Sharon felt a warm current in her heart. "Don't be too tired. Work is important, and we have plenty of time to spend together in the future."

Seb nodded. "Don't worry, I know my limits. Go take a shower, it's getting late."

Sharon replied, "Okay."

Seb took his clothes and went into the bathroom, and soon the sound of running water could be heard.

Sharon was about to go to sleep when her phone suddenly rang. The call was from Ariana. "Sharon, do you know any good law firms in Metropolis?"

Hearing this, Sharon knew what Ariana was planning. She pursed her lips and spoke softly, "Ariana, Kirk's family will hire a lawyer, you don't need to..."

Before she could finish, Ariana interrupted her. "Sharon, Kirk is just like me, he can't rely on his family. I know you might think I'm meddling, but if I don't help him, no one will."

Sharon's voice turned cold, "Do you know what you're doing?"

Ariana wanted to help Kirk because he had saved her twice, which Sharon could understand, but she didn't understand why Ariana would go to such lengths.

After hiring a lawyer for Kirk, there would be a series of follow-up issues. Was she planning to take full responsibility?

Moreover, Sharon didn't believe that Kirk had saved Ariana without any ulterior motives.

There was a long silence on the other end of the line before Ariana's hoarse voice came through, "Sharon, I know what I'm doing."

Sharon replied, "Fine, I won't interfere in your matters, nor will I recommend a lawyer. After all, Kirk embezzled money from Silvercrest Group, and the owner of it, Seb, is now my boyfriend."

On the other end, Ariana's face turned pale, and she subconsciously clenched the hem of her clothes. "Sharon, I'm not trying to go against Silvercrest Group. I just want to hire a lawyer to ask if there's anything I can do for him."

Sharon said, "That's your business, you don't need to tell me. It's late, that's all."

Putting down her phone, Sharon took a deep breath to suppress her anger. However, after thinking for a moment, she realized that Ariana hadn't actually done anything wrong. After all, Kirk had saved her twice, so it was understandable that she wanted to help him.

But she should have privately hired a lawyer for Kirk, not calling Sharon for help.

Seb came out of the bathroom, drying his hair, and saw Sharon's angry face. He raised an eyebrow, "Who made you angry?"

"No one." Sharon pursed her lips but couldn't help asking, "By the way, will Kirk really be imprisoned for life?"

Seb paused in drying his hair, his voice tinged with jealousy, "Sharon, why are you so concerned about him?"

Last night when he came back, Sharon had asked about it, and now she was asking again. Hearing her concern for another man made him very jealous. Indeed, he should arrange for all female colleagues around her.

Sharon replied, "I'm asking for Ariana. Kirk saved her twice, so she's quite concerned about this."

Hearing this, Seb softened his expression a bit, and he said coldly, "If he returns all the embezzled money, he might only be sentenced to one or two years. But he can forget about continuing in this industry."

No big company would hire an employee who embezzled company funds. His career was essentially over.

Sharon nodded. "Alright, but have you found out who sent that anonymous email?"

Seb's eyes flickered. "No, it was an anonymous email, very hard to trace."

Sharon didn't pursue the matter further, as she wasn't particularly interested in it.

Seb finished drying his hair and got into bed from the other side. After talking for a while, Sharon soon fell asleep. Seb dimmed the bedside lamp, his eyes clear, without a trace of sleepiness.

In fact, Paul had already found out yesterday that the email was sent by Grace, and that she had been taken by Jesse's people, her fate unknown. But Seb didn't plan to tell Sharon in order to avoid worrying her.

After several days of running around, Ariana finally hired a lawyer for Kirk and met with him.

Seeing her, Kirk looked very calm. "What are you doing here?"

During his time at the police station, he had come to terms with the fact that he would be sentenced. He had accepted his fate.

From the moment he embezzled company funds, he knew this day would come. But he had just been holding on to a sliver of hope that he wouldn't be caught.

Ariana looked at him, and in just a few days, Kirk seemed to have aged several years. His hair was disheveled, his expression haggard, and his clothes wrinkled, like a homeless person.

A complex emotion flashed in her eyes as she slowly spoke, "I asked Sharon. If you return all the embezzled money, you might only be sentenced to one or two years. You can start over after that."

Kirk laughed, his eyes full of mockery. "So you came here to ask me to return the money to Silvercrest Group?"

Ariana frowned. "Kirk, I'm doing this for you."
