Chapter 75 Why Should I Be Searched Like a Criminal?
Rebecca looked at Emily. "Do you know her?"
If she remembered correctly, Emily had just returned to the country not long ago.
Emily sneered, "Of course I know her. She's good friends with that bitch who's been clinging to Daniel."
Thinking of Sophie, Emily's face was full of disgust.
If she hadn't gone abroad, Sophie would never have had a chance to be with him.
She had planned to deal with Sophie today, but since Sophie didn't come, dealing with Sharon would be just as good.
Rebecca's eyes flashed with surprise before she frowned. "What are you planning to do?"
Emily thought for a moment and then took off her diamond necklace. "I heard her family isn't well-off, so it's understandable if she steals something."
Rebecca's eyes flickered, but she didn't say anything to stop her.
With the Smith family's power, Sharon wouldn't be in any real trouble. However, once she was charged of theft, she'd disgrace their entire family.
No one liked a thief.
Emily walked to a corner and called over a waiter. After she whispered a few words, the waiter left with the diamond necklace.
Sharon was asking why Sophie didn't come to the charity gala when a waiter carrying some juice and desserts suddenly came and stood beside her. "Ms. Wright, Mr. Smith asked me to bring you some refreshments."
Sharon was surprised and looked over at Alex, who was not far away.
Just then, he turned to look at her and smiled.
"Just put them on the table, thank you."
"Okay."
The waiter placed the drinks and desserts on the table and then turned to leave.
No one noticed that as he left, his right hand casually brushed against Sharon's bag, slipping a diamond necklace from his sleeve into her bag.
Sophie quickly replied.
Sophie: [Daniel and Emily's there. I don't want to see those two.]
Since the argument with Emily in the mall, Sophie had broken up with Daniel. However, he didn't agree and even visited the Lee family to talk to her.
Of course, Sophie didn't see him. After resigning, she didn't even go to the company.
Now, as long as Daniel and Emily were around, she stayed far away.
It wasn't that she was afraid of them; she just didn't want any involvement.
After replying to Sophie, Sharon put away her phone, grabbed her bag, and headed to the restroom.
As she entered and opened her bag to get some tissues, she saw the extra diamond necklace, a cold light flashing in her eyes.
It seemed someone at this gala was trying to set her up.
After a few seconds of thought, Sharon guessed it must've been the waiter who delivered the drinks and desserts. No one else had the opportunity to do this.
The method was crude but certainly disgusting.
If the necklace was found in her bag later, the Smith family would be utterly humiliated tonight.
Sharon raised an eyebrow, picked up the diamond necklace, and was about to flush it down the toilet.
Just as she was about to drop it, she had an idea and put the it back in her bag.
When she returned to the hall, the lights had dimmed; the charity gala was about to begin.
Finding Alex, she sat down beside him.
"Where did you go just now? Why didn't you reply to my message?" he asked.
She replied, "To the restroom."
Hearing this, Alex didn't say anything more and tried to take her bag. However, Sharon refused. "No need, I'll hold it myself."
Alex's hand paused, then he withdrew it and said calmly, "Next time, remember to reply. I'll worry if I can't find you."
Sharon lowered her eyes. "Got it."
Her tone was casual, as if she hadn't really listened.
Alex frowned and was about to speak when a loud female voice suddenly rang out in the hall. "My necklace is missing!"
Emily's voice was loud, immediately drawing everyone's attention.
Soon, staff came forward to inquire. Learning that Emily's necklace was missing, they immediately had the lights turned on.
In an instant, the hall was as bright as day.
The staff said, "Ms. Young, don't worry. We'll arrange a search right away. If it fell in the hall, we should find it soon."
Emily looked anxious. "Why not check the surveillance? We should find it quickly; it must've fallen here."
The staff member apologized, "Sorry, Ms. Young. To ensure the gala's privacy and security, there are no cameras in the hall."
Of course, Emily knew this. She only suggested it to show her urgency.
She added, "Then please help me look for it. That necklace was a birthday gift from Daniel; it's very important to me."
"Okay, Ms. Young." The staff immediately started searching.
Within ten minutes, they had searched the entire hall but found nothing.
She looked even more anxious and said, "Why don't you search again? That necklace is worth a hundred million dollars, but more importantly, it's special to me. I had it when I got out of the car, so I'm sure it fell here."
Rebecca also spoke up, "I remember your necklace. The pendant is a swan made of hundreds of diamonds. I saw you wearing it when we met earlier, and I even complimented it."
"Yes." Emily nodded.
With no other option, the staff searched again but still found nothing.
Emily's eyes turned red with anxiety, and she was close to tears.
Daniel frowned slightly and said, "It's just a necklace. If you like, I'll buy you another one later. Don't delay the charity gala."
Emily bit her lip and said slowly, "Daniel, I don't want to either, but the staff searched twice and still didn't find it. I suspect my necklace was either stolen or the person who found it won't return it."
Immediately, the room fell silent, and everyone's faces darkened.
No one wanted to be accused of being a thief.
Emily looked at the crowd, her tear-filled eyes making her look vulnerable.
"I know I've wasted everyone's time tonight, but that necklace means a lot to me. If anyone took it, could you please return it? I promise I won't hold it against you," when she said that, people started whispering among themselves.
"If someone really took the necklace, there's no way they'll return it now."
"Yeah, and it's worth a hundred million dollars. Everyone here is worth billions of dollars. Who would steal her necklace?"
"But if there's a thief among us, we should find them. Otherwise, we'll always be worried at future events. It would be better to find the person now."
"How? There's no surveillance in the hall."
Rebecca pursed her lips and suddenly spoke up, "I have an idea. If we search everyone's bags, we can prove our innocence."
After she said that, Sharon said coldly, "Ms. Walker, I don't agree with your idea. We haven't done anything wrong, so why should we be treated like criminals and have our bags searched?"
"Besides, Ms. Young losing her necklace is her personal issue. It's inappropriate to disrupt everyone for her necklace, don't you think?"
