Chapter 427 It Has Nothing to Do with Her

Randy took a deep breath, "Sophie, I never saw it that way. I was just worried about you."

Sophie shot back, "Are you worried that I'll get back with Daniel?"

Her icy stare made Randy clench his fists, his face twisting in anger. "Sophie, do you have to be so sarcastic? You know how much I hate Daniel, but you went to see him without telling me. If I secretly met up with my ex, would you really be okay with that?"

Sophie snapped, "Why not? If I chose to be with you, I'd trust you. But you don't trust me."

Trust was key in any relationship. If Randy kept being so suspicious, it would only tear them apart.

"I said, I don't distrust you. If you had told me beforehand, I wouldn't have come looking for you. Don't you get what I'm saying?" Randy looked at Sophie, disappointed. "You said nothing would happen between you two, so why couldn't you just tell me you were going to see him? Is that so hard?"

Sophie replied, "I was in a rush and forgot to tell you. Besides, I don't need to report to you who I see. I haven't done anything wrong."

Randy gave a bitter smile and looked down, "Then I have nothing more to say."

He turned to leave, heading for his car.

Sophie frowned and grabbed his arm, "Randy, is this how you solve problems?"

Randy pushed her hand away, his eyes cold, "Sophie, let's both calm down."

All he wanted was for Sophie to let him know when she saw Daniel, so he wouldn't hear it from someone else. But Sophie thought it was unnecessary because she wouldn't betray him.

They were at an impasse, so there was no point in continuing the argument.

Sophie lowered her eyes, her heart growing cold. "Fine, if you want to calm down, then let's do it."

Without another glance at Randy, she walked past him to her car. She got in, started the engine, and drove off. Instead of going home, she headed straight to Sharon's place.

"Do you think he's lost it? The Lee Group had problems, and he didn't help. I didn't say anything because we weren't together then. But this time, I was drugged by Dwayne, and he did nothing. It was Daniel who dealt with the Carr family. I just went to clear things up with Daniel, and he's the one getting mad. Shouldn't I be the one who's angry?"

Sophie vented to Sharon, feeling a bit better.

Sharon handed her a glass of water, "Here, drink some water."

Sophie took a sip and looked at Sharon, "Who do you think is at fault here?"

Sharon replied, "Neither of you is at fault. It's just a communication issue. Randy is younger and cares too much, so he gets overly concerned. And you're older, with more relationship experience, so you overlook details, making him feel like you don't care."

Sophie fell silent, thinking for a while before speaking, "You have a point, but I still don't want to deal with him right now."

Sharon couldn't help but laugh, "Why get hung up on who's right or wrong in love? You guys have different habits and ways of doing things. It's normal to argue while figuring each other out. What matters is how you handle it."

Sophie sighed, feeling a headache coming on, "Forget it, I don't want to think about this right now."

After chatting with Sharon for a bit, Sophie decided to leave.

Once Sophie was gone, Sharon headed to the study.

Seb was there, reading a document. He looked up when he heard her, "Did Sophie leave?"

Sharon nodded, "Yeah."

Noticing her frown, Seb put down his document, "What's up?"

Sharon sighed, "She had a fight with Randy. I feel like Daniel's return is going to stir up a lot of trouble."

Even though she believed Sophie was over Daniel, his constant involvement in her life was like a thorn in Randy's side, occasionally pricking him and straining their relationship.

Seb's eyes darkened. He wasn't too interested in Sophie and Randy's drama, but Daniel's connection with Jesse abroad was concerning. Besides wanting Sophie back, Daniel might have other motives.

Seeing Seb deep in thought, Sharon nudged him, "Why aren't you saying anything?"

Suppressing his suspicions, he looked at her and said softly, "We can't even handle our own stuff, and you're worried about others'?"

Sharon looked puzzled, "What stuff do we have?"

Seb smirked, "Plenty. Like when to give Demetrius a sister, when to get married, where to hold the wedding, and where to go for the honeymoon..."

Sharon cut him off, "You haven't even proposed yet, and I don't want to get married right now. We're fine as we are."

Their current situation felt like marriage, so whether they made it official or not didn't matter to her.

Seb said, "I don't think it's fine. I want us to be legally married."

Sharon raised an eyebrow, "Then keep trying. Maybe one day I'll want to get married."

Seb was about to respond when his phone rang. He said, "I need to take this."

Sharon nodded, "I'll find a book to read. Go ahead."

Watching her walk to the bookshelf, Seb smiled slightly and answered the call.

The voice on the other end said, "Mr. Smith, we got news from Falcon. Jesse's secretary took a wine glass to the largest authority center in Stellaria for a paternity test today. The sample name... was Ms. Roach. The wine glass was sent by Mr. Thomas's secretary."

Seb's grip tightened on his phone, his breathing heavy.

He glanced at Sharon, then walked out of the study. Once he reached the end of the hallway, he spoke coldly, "Who is the paternity test for?"

The voice replied, "The other name is Lucy. Falcon is still investigating."

Seb's face turned grim, "Got it. Have Falcon keep digging."

After hanging up, Seb didn't rush back to the study. Instead, he opened a window at the end of the hallway. A cold wind blew in, but he didn't seem to feel it, staring blankly into the dark night.

The person named Lucy was likely a woman. Could she be related to Sharon by blood?

If Jesse suspected Sharon had a blood connection with this Lucy, he'd start by looking into Sharon's parents.

Thinking of this, Seb decided he needed to find a chance to meet with Robert. After staying outside for more than half an hour, Seb finally returned to the study.

Hearing the door open, Sharon looked up, "Why did it take you so long to answer a call?"

Seb replied, "I was a bit tired, so I rested outside for a while."

Seeing that he indeed looked a bit worn out, Sharon offered, "Do you want me to give you a massage?"

Seb shook his head, "No need, I've rested enough."

Sharon nodded, "Alright."

Seb continued reading documents for over an hour before they both headed to their bedroom.

After they showered, Seb offered to blow-dry Sharon's hair. Sharon said, "Aren't you really tired today? I can do it myself."

Seb insisted, "I'll do it for you."

He took the hairdryer from Sharon's hand, his expression serious, as if he would get upset if she didn't let him.

Sharon had no choice but to agree, "Alright then."

She turned her back to Seb, and soon the sound of the hairdryer filled the room. It took more than ten minutes, and Sharon was almost falling asleep when Seb finally finished.

After putting away the hairdryer, he looked at Sharon, "You go ahead and sleep. I just remembered there's a document I haven't signed yet. I'll sign it and come back up."

Sharon didn't find anything strange about this and nodded, "Okay."

Walking out of the bedroom, Seb glanced at the few strands of long hair in his hand, his eyes filled with complex emotions.

In less than ten minutes, Seb returned.

After getting into bed from the other side, he turned off the light, ready to sleep.

The bedroom quickly fell into darkness. As Seb was pondering how to get Robert's hair, Sharon's voice suddenly came through. "Seb, did something happen at the company? You seem strange today, like you have something on your mind."

"Nothing, just a bit tired," Seb replied.

As soon as he finished speaking, a soft hand held his. Sharon said, "That's good. If something is really bothering you, don't keep it to yourself. Even if I can't help you solve it, talking about it might make you feel better."

Seb gently squeezed her hand and said in a low voice, "Okay."

The room fell silent again. After a while, Seb suddenly spoke, "Should we go see your dad tomorrow? It's been a while since we last visited him."

Sharon was about to say it had only been a few days, but she was also a bit worried about Robert, "Alright, I just received the surveillance cameras I ordered. We can install them in the living room tomorrow so we can check on him anytime."

Seb placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, "Okay, sleep now."

Sharon said, "Alright."

The next evening, Sharon and Seb went to see Robert.

As soon as they arrived at the building where Robert lived, they saw a red BMW parked at the entrance.

Seb parked the car, and they went upstairs together. At the stairway, they saw Karen standing at her door.

Although she was dressed in designer clothes and her demeanor was completely different from five years ago, Sharon recognized her immediately.

Karen didn't notice the footsteps behind her and was speaking to the door, "Robert, open the door. Let's talk."

From inside, Robert's impatient voice came, "I know why you're here. I will never agree to your request. Leave now, or I'll call the police."

Karen's face turned awkward, and just as she was about to knock again, a cold voice came from behind her. "Ms. Wendy, if you continue to harass my father, I will call the police right now."

Karen turned her head as soon as the words were spoken. Seeing Sharon and Seb, she wasn't surprised and quickly put on a smile. "Sharon, are you here to see your dad?"

Her demeanor was familiar, as if she and Sharon had never had any unpleasant encounters before.

Sharon didn't intend to play along and said coldly, "This has nothing to do with you. Please leave immediately."

Karen didn't get angry and continued to smile, "You and your dad have just reconciled. I won't disturb you. I'm staying at Shallow Bay Community in the north of the city. Come visit me sometime."

Sharon didn't respond, her attitude icy.

It wasn't until Karen passed by her that she gave a low warning, "I will install a surveillance camera at the door. If I see you coming to my dad again, I will call the police."

Karen paused for a moment but said nothing and quickly left.

Sharon walked to the door and knocked, "Dad, open the door. She's gone."

As soon as she finished speaking, the door opened from the inside.

When Robert saw Sharon and Seb, his previously tense face finally relaxed into a smile, "Sharon, Mr. Smith, you're here. Come in."

Sharon and Seb walked into the living room, and the smell of food wafted from the kitchen, indicating the servant was cooking.

Robert smiled, "I didn't expect you to come. I'll ask the servant to cook a few more dishes."

Sharon said, "I'll do it."

Sharon handed the surveillance camera to Seb, "If you have time later, install the camera."

"Okay," Seb replied.

After Sharon went into the kitchen, Seb looked at Robert, "Mr. Wright, do you know why Karen came to see you?"

From the fact that Karen had left Robert in a nursing home for years without caring, it was clear she had no feelings for him. Since she had no feelings, there must be another reason for her visit.

Robert nodded, "She came for the house I'm living in now."

Seb asked, "What do you mean?"

Robert said, "When I married her, I promised to give her a house. She had her eyes on this one, but I didn't agree. Later, I bought her a villa, and she gave up on this house."

Robert sighed, "Later, when Sharon was in college, the company had an accident and went bankrupt. To pay the employees, she sold the villa under her name. Not long after, I got sick, and she took care of me for a few years. After Sharon's accident, she asked for a divorce and married a distant uncle of Ayla's."

Robert added, "When we divorced, she didn't ask for anything and just wanted a quick divorce. Recently, she heard about the demolition of this area and came to ask for half of the compensation for this house."

Seb said, "Since you are divorced, whether this house is demolished or not has nothing to do with her."

Robert was silent for a moment and then said in a low voice, "She took the receipts for my previous medical expenses and said if I didn't give her half the money, she would take me to court."

Seb frowned, "Even if this house is demolished, she would only get seventy to eighty thousand dollars at most. She shouldn't be short of that money now."

Just the BMW Karen parked downstairs and the clothes and jewelry she wore were worth a couple of hundred thousand dollars. There was no need for her to waste time coming to Robert for this money.

Robert shook his head, "I don't know either."

Seb said, "I'll look into it and let you know if I find anything. If she comes to bother you again, just call the police."
