Chapter 285 Dating with the Intention of Marriage
Rebecca's face was like a storm cloud. She'd invested years into Seb and wasn't about to let some random kid mess up her plans.
She took a deep breath, trying to keep her cool, and said, "Seb, I can't deal with this right now. Give me a week to wrap my head around it. I'll get back to you then. Until I do, let's just not talk."
Before Seb could say anything about breaking off the engagement again, she hung up.
Rebecca clenched her jaw, her face twisted with anger.
'That sneaky Sharon, acting all innocent while dropping this bomb on Seb. She played me!' Rebecca fumed inside.
She punched in another number and snapped, "What the hell are you doing? Why haven't I heard anything about the job I gave you?"
The voice on the other end stammered, "Ms. Walker, we're on it. It'll be done soon."
Rebecca sneered, "I'm warning you, screw this up and you're done!"
If they hadn't been so slow, Sharon wouldn't have had the chance to pull this stunt with Seb!
The line went quiet, just the sound of heavy breathing on the other end.
Rebecca barked, "You got three more days. If you can't handle this, don't bother showing up again!"
She slammed the phone down, still fuming, her face dark with rage.
As long as Sharon was around, she'd never have peace!
Sharon got home and immediately called Donna.
Donna showed up half an hour later.
Seeing Sharon all torn up, Donna's eyes softened. "Sharon, don't stress. You've been raising Demetrius all these years. He's got a strong bond with you. Even if it goes to court, he'll want to stay with you!"
Sharon shook her head, looking defeated. "But Seb's already got people on it, lawyers, paternity tests, the whole nine yards. He's not gonna let me see Demetrius easily. He's stalling, and he can wait, but I can't."
She added, "I just talked to his secretary and heard Demetrius crying. It broke my heart. Every second without him is torture."
Donna tried to soothe her, "You gotta stay calm. Demetrius needs you to bring him back. I know some good lawyers. I'll hook you up."
Sharon took a deep breath and looked at Donna. "Donna, I need a favor."
"What is it?"
Sharon explained, "Seb's lawyer is Nathan. He's a big deal in Aidamore and even nationwide. Regular lawyers won't cut it. I need your sister to take this case."
Donna's face showed hesitation. Her sister, Julia Howard, was top-notch. If Julia took the case, their chances would skyrocket.
But Julia had dated Nathan. After they split, they both got big in their careers and avoided each other like the plague.
Julia had sworn off cases where Nathan was the opposing lawyer. Nathan hadn't said anything publicly, but he steered clear of cases involving Julia.
In the past few years, Julia and Nathan had become big names in the Aidamore legal scene.
Donna knew Julia probably still had feelings for Nathan, which is why she avoided him like the plague.
She hesitated, "Sharon, I can hook you up with other lawyers. I know plenty who are just as good as my sister. Maybe give them a shot?"
Sharon shook her head. "When it comes to divorce and custody battles, your sister's the best. She's undefeated. I just want to meet her. If she says no, I won't push."
If it wasn't for Demetrius's custody, Sharon wouldn't have asked Donna for this favor.
Donna got it and, after a moment, nodded. "Alright, I'll set up a meeting with my sister, but convincing her is on you."
Sharon almost cried with relief. "Donna, thank you!"
"Don't thank me yet. It's a long shot. I've seen Demetrius grow up, so I'll do whatever I can to help."
Sharon felt a wave of gratitude. "Okay."
Donna added, "But why not ask Zachary for help? He's the CEO of Cook Group. He knows tons of lawyers. With his help, you don't even have to worry about finding a lawyer yourself."
Sharon looked down and shook her head. "I don't want to rely on him for everything."
Donna was surprised but then understood. "Alright."
She got why Sharon didn't want to lean on Zachary now.
After all, she'd leaned heavily on Alex before, even ditching her grad studies to marry him, only to get cheated on.
That relationship lasted eight years. Sharon had moved on, but it still left scars.
Donna comforted Sharon for a bit. Once Sharon seemed calmer, Donna finally relaxed.
"Sharon, I'll go talk to my sister now and set up a meeting ASAP. Wait for my call."
"Okay."
Not long after Donna left, Zachary showed up.
He said gently, "Sharon, I heard about Demetrius. I've got people looking for him. We'll find him soon. Don't worry."
Sharon nodded. "Okay, thanks. You've got a lot on your plate. I can handle this."
Zachary was about to reply when his phone rang.
After answering, his face lit up. He looked at Sharon and said, "Sharon, we found Demetrius!"
When Zachary and Sharon arrived, Zachary's men had the villa surrounded.
There were just as many guys in black facing off with Zachary's men, both sides on edge but not making a move.
Seeing Zachary and Sharon, the crowd parted to let them through.
As they stepped into the living room, the tension skyrocketed when Zachary and Seb locked eyes.
Zachary spoke first, "Mr. Smith, if you don't give Demetrius back to Sharon today, this won't end well."
Seb chuckled, "Mr. Cook, Demetrius is mine and Sharon's kid. What's this got to do with you? What right do you have to butt in? Never seen someone so eager to raise another man's kid."
Before Zachary could respond, Sharon cut in coldly, "Of course, it has to do with him. We're dating and planning to get married. He might be Demetrius's stepfather soon!"
