Chapter 353 Did Something Happen?

Sophie raised an eyebrow, about to say something, when her eyes caught sight of someone familiar not too far away. A look of surprise flashed across her face.

She never thought she'd bump into Randy at a blind date.

Their eyes met for a split second before Randy casually looked away, pretending he hadn't seen her, and started to walk off.

Sophie, keeping her face neutral, turned her attention back to Francis, who was still nitpicking.

"Mr. Reyes, I don't think we're a good match. Let's call it a day. Goodbye," Sophie said firmly.

She stood up to leave, but Francis stopped her.

"Ms. Lee, apart from being a bit extravagant with money, everything else about you is within my limits," Francis insisted.

Sophie was beautiful and had that innocent vibe Francis liked, so he was generally satisfied with her. If they started dating and she listened to him, spending some money on her wouldn't be a big deal.

Sophie smiled, "Mr. Reyes, sorry, I can't change my habits. If you can't tolerate them, then we're really not suitable. I hope you find a girl who suits you soon."

With that, Sophie bypassed Francis and walked out.

Back in her car, Sophie was about to start the engine when her phone rang. It was Maria.

"Sophie, did something happen on your blind date today? The friend who introduced you called to say the guy thought you had a bad personality and wasn't interested in you," Maria asked, concerned.

Sophie hadn't expected Francis to start badmouthing her so soon after she left. But that was fine; it saved her the trouble of explaining.

"Yeah, I'm not good enough for him," Sophie replied nonchalantly.

There was a moment of silence on the other end before Maria's worried voice came through, "The person introduced today has the best family background. If this doesn't work out, the next ones might be worse."

Sophie frowned, her tone displeased. "Mom, I'm not a commodity. Besides, you can't judge a match solely by their family background. Doesn't my happiness matter?"

Sophie had already compromised by going on the blind date, but Maria's words made her feel like she was a commodity up for sale, not a daughter they had raised for over twenty years.

Realizing her mistake, Maria quickly apologized, "Sophie, I'm sorry. I was confused and said the wrong thing. Don't be mad."

Sophie rubbed her temples in frustration. "Got it. I need to drive now. Talk later."

She hung up, tossed her phone onto the passenger seat, and took a cigarette from her bag. She hadn't smoked much before, but after Sharon's accident five years ago, she had to rely on smoking to calm her nerves.

Sophie took a couple of puffs when suddenly the car window was knocked on. She turned her head and met Randy's clear eyes.

She stubbed out the cigarette and rolled down the window halfway.

"Mr. Smith, is there something you need?" Sophie asked curtly.

Randy looked down at her lightly made-up face, his gaze deepening. "You rejected me just to go on a blind date with that greasy guy?"

Sophie frowned. Before she could speak, Randy continued, "Forget it, it's none of my business anymore. Here's the contract for our recent project, already signed. Please deliver it to the Lee Group."

After handing her the contract, Randy turned and walked away.

Sophie looked down at the contract in her hand, a mix of emotions flashing in her eyes. She thought, 'Maybe this is for the best. Randy and I should have cut ties long ago. Keeping this up will only lead to more mess and hurt for both of us.'

That evening, at a high-end bar in Metropolis, Randy and Seb sat in a private room, each silently downing their drinks.

Both had dark expressions, giving off a vibe that warned others to stay away.

Eventually, Randy couldn't help but look at Seb. "Uncle Seb, was it this hard for you to pursue Aunt Sharon?" The thought of Sophie rejecting him but going on a date with that greasy guy made Randy feel frustrated.

Did she really think he was worse than that greasy guy?

Seb glanced at him indifferently without speaking.

He was currently annoyed about having to take Zachary to the zoo on Saturday and had no time to be Randy's emotional counselor.

However, Randy didn't seem to expect an answer. He took another swig and said angrily, "Forget it, it's none of my business anymore. There are plenty of women in the world; It's not as if I absolutely must have Sophie.“

Randy muttered, "I'm such a great guy, pursued her for five years, and she missed out. She should be the one regretting, not me! I'm so pissed off. I'll never chase another woman again! What a jerk!"

In his anger, he pulled out his phone and posted a status update: [I'll never shed a tear for the jerk again!]

Not long after he posted it, his friends started leaving mocking comments.

Seeing those mocking comments, Randy rolled his eyes and wanted to punch them all through the screen.

Just as he was about to delete the post, he saw that Sophie had liked it.

Randy was furious. How dare she like it? Was her heart made of stone?

The more he thought about it, the angrier he got, and he started drinking even faster. It wasn't long before he was drunk.

Drunk Randy was like a different person compared to when he was sober. He wasn't afraid of Seb anymore and even went over to hug his leg, crying and sniffling.

Randy wailed, "Uncle Seb, why doesn't Sophie want me? What's wrong with me? I'm a pretty handsome guy! She's just pretty. Why won't she give me a chance? Uncle Seb, you're the best. You're willing to drink with me when I'm sad."

Seb's eyes flashed with disdain as he looked at the red-faced, drunken Randy, and he kicked him away.

"Don't bother me," Seb said coldly.

Randy fell to the ground, his eyes a bit dazed. Wasn't he just hugging Seb's leg to sleep? Why was he on the floor?

Randy was already drunk, his mind slow. Unable to figure it out, he decided not to think about it and got up to hug Seb's leg again.

"Uncle Seb, I'm so miserable! I've only ever liked one woman in my life. I can't just give up; it hurts so much. But, Uncle Seb, why is your leg so cold and hard?" Randy slurred.

Seb looked down coldly at Randy, who was hugging the table leg and crying, his expression extremely displeased.

If he had known Randy would be this embarrassing when drunk, he would never have agreed to go out drinking with him.

"Uncle Seb, why aren't you saying anything? Do you not want to talk to me either?" Randy continued to whine.
