Chapter 236 Feeling Like a Jerk
Sharon shot him a look of pure disbelief. When Seb barged in earlier, he was all set to grill her. 'What the heck made him switch gears so fast?' she wondered.
Seb caught the shock in her eyes and felt a bitter sting in his chest.
When Alex called Seb at the office, dropping the bomb that Sharon was pregnant, Seb's first reaction was pure denial, but there was this tiny flicker of hope. He immediately got Paul on the case.
Paul came back quick, confirming Sharon was indeed pregnant. But before Seb could even crack a smile, Paul hit him with the real kicker.
"Ms. Wright went to the hospital for an abortion today," Paul said.
Seb's grin froze, and he just stood there, like someone dumped a bucket of ice water over him. He felt like he was in a freezer.
It took Seb a solid ten seconds to snap out of it. He grilled Paul, hoping there was some mistake.
Paul handed over the hospital's abortion record for Sharon, with the exact time and everything. His face was grim.
Seb was torn between rage and despair. Only one thought blazed in his mind: 'Find Sharon!'
On the way, Seb was fuming.
He thought Sharon had no right to make that call on her own; she should've talked to him first!
It felt like there was a tight string in Seb's mind, ready to snap and send him over the edge.
The moment he saw Sharon, that string snapped.
But instead of losing it and doing something crazy, Seb felt a heartache so bad he could barely breathe.
Just seeing Sharon's pale face and frail figure made his heart feel like it was shattering.
This whole mess wasn't Sharon's fault; she was just caught in the crossfire.
Yet, on the way here, he was still thinking about how to confront her and argue.
Right now, Seb felt like a total jerk.
If he hadn't lost control under the influence of that aphrodisiac, they wouldn't have hooked up, Sharon wouldn't have gotten pregnant, and she wouldn't have had to go through the abortion and all this pain.
Guilt and heartache hit Seb like a tidal wave, almost drowning him.
Seb knew he owed Sharon big time, a debt he could never repay.
After a moment of silence, Sharon lowered her eyes and said, "If you have nothing else, you can leave."
She definitely deserved Seb's apology.
Footsteps approached the bed, and sensing Seb getting closer, Sharon instinctively turned her head.
Her eyes widened in shock.
The always high-and-mighty Seb was squatting by the bed, looking at her with guilt and pleading in his eyes. "Sharon, let me take care of you during this time."
Sharon's hand under the blanket clenched unconsciously, disbelief flashing in her eyes.
'Is this for real? Seb's here, not to grill me, but to offer to take care of me?' she thought.
When Seb walked in, he was clearly pissed, mad that she had aborted the child without talking to him.
But now, Seb not only apologized but also wanted to take care of her?
Sharon's heart stirred, but she still turned her head coldly. "No need, Mr. Smith. Please leave. I don't want any interaction with you."
She didn't want to be around Seb anymore, partly because she was scared she might fall for him again.
To her now, love was the most useless thing.
"Sharon, please don't push me away, okay?"
For the first time, Seb spoke to her in such a lowly manner, but Sharon's face remained unmoved.
"I said I don't need it. Just like I told you to pretend that night never happened, pretend today didn't happen either."
Seeing Sharon's cold profile, Seb felt a sharp pain in his heart.
At that moment, Seb finally got it—he had really lost Sharon for good.
When Sharon said it was over, she meant it. No looking back.
He'd been too cocky, thinking Sharon would always be there.
Seb thought, 'If Sharon could be cold enough to abort the baby, she could definitely cut me off too.'
Seb left.
Not long after, Sophie walked in, looking like she had something to say but was holding back.
Sharon pretended not to notice and forced a smile. "Sophie, thanks for today. You can head home now. I can handle things."
Sophie sat down by the bed and, after a moment, said softly, "When Seb left, he looked wrecked. He must really care about you."
Sharon lowered her eyes, her expression unchanged.
"Before Grace showed up, I really cared about him too. Sophie, you don't need to convince me. It's over. I just want to focus on my studies and nothing else."
Sophie knew Sharon was set on this, so she sighed. "There's soup in the thermos. Remember to drink it later. I'll head out now. Call me if you need anything."
"Okay."
Downstairs, seeing Seb still standing by his car, Sophie knew he was waiting for her and walked straight over.
"She must have been in a lot of pain during the operation, right?"
Seb's voice was hoarse, his features half-hidden in the darkness, looking somewhat desolate.
Sophie looked at him coldly. "What do you think?"
Seeing the anger on Sophie's face, Seb gave a bitter smile. "I owe her an apology."
"Good that you know."
Silence fell between them, and just as Sophie was about to leave in frustration, Seb suddenly said softly, "Ms. Lee, Sharon doesn't want to see me. Can you take care of her for me during this time?"
Sophie sneered. "I would do that without you asking. Besides, you and Sharon have nothing to do with each other anymore. It's not your place to ask me."
With that, Sophie turned and left.
The next morning around ten, Paul came over to bring Sharon some supplements and also hired a housekeeper to cook for her.
Sharon refused outright, but Paul said Seb had instructed him, and if she didn't accept, Seb would come over himself.
Frustrated, Sharon threw the supplements into the trash in front of Paul.
She thought this would make Paul back off, but instead, Paul had someone bring up double the supplements and said with a smile, "Ms. Wright, I prepared a thousand portions downstairs. If you like throwing them away, I'll have more sent up."
Sharon's face turned cold.
"Mr. Harris, please tell Mr. Smith I don't need his things."
Paul smiled and nodded. "Ms. Wright, I will relay the message, but you know Mr. Smith. If you don't accept, he will really come over himself."
After thinking for a moment, Sharon said coldly, "Fine, I'll accept the things. Now you can leave."
As for the housekeeper, Sharon didn't plan to keep her either.
But the next day, the housekeeper came over with prepared meals.
After a few days, Sharon realized that having someone else bring her meals gave her more time to study. So, she decided to just go with it.
The housekeeper continued to bring meals for a month, showing no signs of stopping. Sharon finally couldn't help but call Seb.
"Mr. Smith, it's been a month. You can tell Paul and the housekeeper to stop coming."
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds before Seb's deep voice came through. "I'm working right now. I'll call you back later."
With that, he hung up.
Sharon put down her phone and, after a moment of hesitation, decided to continue studying.
On the other side, Seb put down his phone and looked coldly at Victor and Grace across from him.
"You can leave now."
Victor frowned, disbelief in his eyes. "Seb, won't you reconsider the cooperation?"
