Chapter 346 Underestimating Seb's Shamelessness
She saw Zachary's name pop up on her screen, a grin spreading across her face as she answered.
"Hey, what's up?" Sharon asked.
"Sharon, I've got two tickets to an auction. Wanna come? I heard there's gonna be a ton of gorgeous jewelry up for grabs. I thought you might be into it," Zachary said.
Sharon raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised by the invite. "When?"
"Tomorrow night," Zachary replied.
Sharon thought for a second. She had no plans for tomorrow night, so she agreed. "Alright, I'll pick you up tomorrow night."
After hanging up with Zachary, Sharon put her phone down and noticed Jake giving her a nosy look with a mischievous grin.
"Sharon, you look pretty happy. Was that your boyfriend?" Jake asked.
Sharon smiled and admitted, "Yeah, are you jealous?"
Jake had been single for over twenty years. Every birthday, he wished for a girlfriend but spent all his time in the lab, leaving no room to meet new women. The women in the lab weren't interested in him, so he stayed single.
"Yeah, I'm jealous. Sharon, if you know any single women, hook me up," Jake said.
The topic dropped, and no one brought it up again.
After dinner, Sharon drove Jake home and then headed back to her place. To her surprise, Zachary was there.
Seeing her, Zachary stood up from a pile of toys with a smile. "Sharon, you're back? I was passing by your neighborhood on my way home, so I thought I'd drop by. Demetrius told me you're working now."
Sharon put down her bag and changed her shoes. "Yeah, I'm in charge of a project between the lab and Silvercrest Group."
"Just don't overwork yourself. It's already past ten," Zachary said, his eyes full of concern.
Sharon nodded. "I know. I was having dinner with my colleagues, so it got a bit late."
"Alright," Zachary replied.
In the living room, Sharon saw a box of Chocolate Chip Cookies with the Sweet Serenity Pastries logo on the table and paused. Sweet Serenity Pastries was over thirty miles away, so even though she loved their cookies, she never drove there to buy them.
"I was in that area today for business. I remember you said you missed Sweet Serenity Pastries' Chocolate Chip Cookies the most. Try them and see if they still taste the same," Zachary said.
Sharon pressed her lips together, feeling a wave of emotion. If he was doing business near Sweet Serenity Pastries, he wouldn't have passed by here. Clearly, he brought them over on purpose.
"Thank you. But next time, don't go to so much trouble. It takes you almost an hour to get back from here," Sharon said.
Zachary gently held her hand. "As long as you like it, it's no trouble. Go ahead, try them."
Sharon opened the box, and a familiar aroma wafted out. She couldn't help but take a deep breath. "Yep, that's the the taste."
She took a few pieces out on a plate, and they all tried some. It was indeed the same taste.
Zachary couldn't help but smile. "This flavor is really something. No wonder you couldn't find any Chocolate Chip Cookies you liked during your five years in Aidamore."
"This shop in Metropolis has been around for over a hundred years. I remember it was just a small storefront when I was a kid. Now, it occupies three floors, but they haven't opened any branches. If you want their cookies, you have to go there," Sharon explained.
Zachary nodded. "These old establishments usually have their own set of rules, which is why they can thrive for so long."
After munching on the cookies, Demetrius started to get sleepy.
Seeing this, Zachary stood up. "It's getting late. I'll head out now. I'll pick you up tomorrow night."
"Okay."
After seeing Zachary off, Sharon bathed Demetrius and put him to bed. She hesitated for a moment before texting Seb, asking if he was free tomorrow night so she could drop Demetrius off.
Seb replied quickly: [I'm free. What's up?]
Sharon: [I have to go to an auction tomorrow night and might be back late. Demetrius should be asleep by then, and I don't want him to be scared alone at home.]
Seb replied: [Sure, I'm going to that auction too, but Dana can put Demetrius to bed.]
Sharon didn't expect Seb to attend the auction as well, but Dana was indeed more suitable than a new nanny. So, she replied: [Okay.]
Seeing no further reply from Seb, Sharon put away her phone and went to take a shower and sleep.
Meanwhile, in Seb's study, after logging out of Facebook, Seb called Paul and said coldly, "Get me a ticket to tomorrow night's auction."
Paul was a bit puzzled. "Mr. Smith, didn't you say you weren't interested in this auction?"
However, Seb didn't answer and hung up the phone directly. Paul sighed, holding his phone.
The next evening came quickly. Sharon dropped Demetrius off at Seb's villa and told Zachary in advance not to pick her up; she would go directly.
Seeing Sharon about to leave, Seb asked calmly, "Did you drive?"
Sharon nodded. "Yeah, what's wrong?"
Seb said, "My car is in for maintenance today. Since you have to come back to pick up Demetrius tonight, could you give me a ride?"
Sharon frowned. "All your cars are in for maintenance?"
"Yes," Seb replied.
Since Seb had said this, she had no choice but to agree. "No problem."
Seb said, "Thanks."
When Seb and Sharon arrived at the auction venue, there was still more than half an hour before the auction started.
Zachary had arrived early and was waiting for Sharon at the entrance. When he saw Seb following Sharon, a flash of displeasure crossed his eyes. It seemed Seb hadn't taken his warning to heart.
"Sharon, why are you with Mr. Smith?" Zachary asked.
Sharon replied calmly, "His cars are in for maintenance. I was dropping Demetrius off at his villa, so he rode with me."
Zachary was silent. He had underestimated Seb's shamelessness; he couldn't believe Seb would actually say something like that.
Zachary glanced at Seb and said sarcastically, "I didn't expect Mr. Smith's car maintenance to be so timely."
Seb remained calm. "My subordinates were careless, making Mr. Cook laugh at me."
"Who would dare laugh at you? But with subordinates like that, Mr. Smith, I think you should consider firing them. After all, tonight is just a trivial auction. If they delay something important in the future, it would be regrettable," Zachary said coldly.
Facing Zachary's cold eyes, Seb's lips curled slightly. "Mr. Cook, you're right."
Noticing the tension between Zachary and Seb, Sharon frowned and walked over to Zachary. "Let's go inside."
"Alright," Zachary replied, taking Sharon's hand and leading her inside.
Seb's eyes darkened, and the temperature around him seemed to drop a few degrees.
Zachary's quick pace indicated he was clearly upset. Sharon pressed her lips together and said, "Zachary, I'm sorry. I didn't think this through today. It won't happen again."
