Chapter 434 Can Give You, Can Take It Back Anytime

After knocking out the servant, Grace quickly swapped clothes with her, fixed her hair, and left the basement. She got lucky; no other servants were around when she made her way out.

Keeping her head down, she hurried back to her bedroom. The first thing she did was grab her phone and call Jesse.

Ever since Sharon fell into the sea five years ago, Jesse hadn't reached out to her. She was relieved Jesse had let her be and figured she'd never have to deal with him again. But now, Jesse was her only hope.

The phone rang for what felt like forever before he finally picked up.

"Grace, you got some nerve calling me. Guess you got a death wish," Jesse sneered. If it weren't for Grace five years ago, his plan wouldn't have been delayed till now.

He'd been too busy, and with Sharon gone, it was a hassle to come back and grab Grace, so he let her go. Now, if Sharon was who he thought she was, he'd definitely come back. Time to settle old scores.

Grace swallowed her fear, her voice resolute as she said, "Jesse, for old times' sake, can you help me out and get me away from Victor?"

Victor had found out about her secret fund transfers from the Edwards Group, and she knew she wouldn't get another chance. Staying with Victor and getting beaten every day was a fate worse than death.

Jesse's voice was cold, "Old times? When you ran back home, we were done. I treated you so well abroad, but you left me. Now you want me to save you? You think I'm an idiot?"

Grace pleaded, "Jesse, if you save me, I'll work hard for you and repay your kindness."

Grace promised, but Jesse wasn't buying it. "I don't need a broken woman working for me, and you think I don't know your husband passed you around to investors? It's disgusting."

With that, he hung up. When Grace tried calling again, the line was busy. Despair hit her hard. She had no other way to reach Jesse. Now that he blocked her, he really wasn't going to help.

Grace crumpled to the ground, full of regret. She truly regretted everything. If she'd known it would come to this, she'd never have come back. But it was too late now. After a moment of breaking down, Grace pulled herself together. She couldn't give up!

Taking a deep breath, she grabbed a suitcase and packed her clothes and jewelry. She had to get out first and figure out the rest later.

After packing, she checked the surveillance on her phone and dodged all the servants to leave the Edwards Villa. It wasn't until she got into a taxi that she finally felt a bit of relief.

The taxi driver asked, "Miss, where to?"

Grace took a deep breath, "Train station."

At the station, she dragged her suitcase, bought the earliest ticket out, and went through the security check before boarding the train.

Settled in her seat, she took out her phone and removed the SIM card, replacing it with a backup she had prepared. After a few stops, she got off the train and purchased a bus ticket to carry her even further away.

It was late at night when Victor got home and opened the basement door, only to find a servant lying there instead of Grace. She had escaped.

Victor gathered all the servants in the living room, threw a fit, and checked the surveillance footage. That's when he realized Grace had run off in the afternoon.

He sneered and called his secretary, "Find out where Grace went."

Did she really think she could get away? The moment she used her card, he'd know exactly where she was. Victor sat on the sofa, eyes filled with malice. This time, when he caught Grace, he'd make sure she couldn't escape again.

Meanwhile, Jesse got wind of Grace's escape pretty quickly. He raised an eyebrow, "What an idiot."

She'd always been in Metropolis, making it tough for his people to get to her. Now that she had run, it was the perfect chance. No way he was letting a woman who messed with him get away.

More importantly, she knew too much about his past. She'd been quiet for the last five years, but he couldn't risk her holding onto his secrets. The only ones who could keep secrets were the dead.

Jesse ordered, "Find her. I don't want her living too long."

Grace took a bus for three days and nights and switched buses several times, finally getting off in a place called Cloud Ocean County that was hundreds of miles from Metropolis.

The only problem was she didn't have much cash, making it impossible to stay in a hotel or use her bank card without Victor finding her.

Luckily, renting a place in Cloud Ocean County wasn't too pricey. She spent some money to rent a place and finally had somewhere to stay.

After settling in, the first thing Grace did was contact Kirk. But instead of calling, she sent him a message on Facebook.

Grace: [Kirk, transfer two million dollars to me immediately, or I'll send your criminal evidence to Seb.]

Kirk replied almost instantly: [Where are you now?]

Grace: [Why? So you can find me and kill me?]

Kirk: [Don't accuse me falsely. If you hadn't threatened me, I wouldn't have acted first.]

Grace: [I don't want to waste words with you. Transfer two million dollars to my Facebook within half an hour, or I'll send you to jail today!]

Grace had a rough idea of what Kirk had been up to these past few years. His current savings were probably around two million dollars.

Grace didn't want to go this far, but Kirk had cut off her escape route, so she had no qualms about taking his money.

Kirk: [I don't have that much money.]

Grace: [That's your problem. If I don't see the money in half an hour, I'll send all the evidence to Seb.]

Kirk: [Where are you now? Let's meet, and I'll bring the money to you.]

Seeing this, Grace sneered. Trusting him again would be the height of folly.

Grace: [You don't need to know where I am. I'm no longer in Metropolis. You have twenty-nine minutes left. Do you want to keep wasting time?]

After sending this message, Grace tossed her phone aside and ignored Kirk.

Kirk sent several more messages, trying to play the emotional card, but Grace didn't respond. She didn't see Kirk's messages, and even if she did, she wouldn't reply.

After all, the money she had transferred from the Edwards Group had been taken back by Victor. Now she planned to extort this sum from Kirk and then went to another country, where no one could find her. As for the evidence of Kirk's crimes, she had set it to be sent automatically to Seb's email in a month.

Once she got the money, she would immediately tell Kirk about the timer, making him spend the next month in fear. She wanted Kirk to taste the feeling of losing everything and freedom!

On the other side, Kirk began to panic as Grace's silence stretched on. Despite the tension gnawing at him, he didn't plan to just hand over the money to Grace.

After all, he was wary of her and didn't believe that giving her the money would make her let him go. He prepared the money and called Grace via voice call.

This time, she answered quickly, picking up after just two rings. Grace's voice was cold, "Is the money ready?"

Kirk responded, "It's ready, but I don't trust you."

Now, the two had completely fallen out, and neither pretended to be friendly anymore.

Grace sneered, "Besides trusting me, it seems you have no other choice."

Kirk chuckled, "Grace, I know you escaped from Metropolis. You must be very short on money now, right? Without money, you're still doomed. If I'm not mistaken, your purpose for getting this money is to escape abroad, right?"

There was a few seconds of silence on the other end, and Grace's voice sounded a bit exasperated. "So what if you know? If you don't give me the money, I can still find a way to work, but you can only go to jail."

Kirk said, "I can give you the money, but I need to see the original evidence, and I'll only give you five hundred thousand dollars now. A year later, I'll give you another five hundred thousand dollars."

Grace's face turned dark, and she gritted her teeth, "No, two million dollars, all at once!"

Kirk replied, "Don't be in such a hurry. If you take two million dollars all at once, you'll spend it quickly. But as long as you hold onto that evidence, I'll give you five hundred thousand dollars every year. This way, we can both keep each other in check and not worry about being deceived. What do you think?"

Grace thought for a while and felt that Kirk's proposal was good. After all, if Kirk could give her five hundred thousand dollars every year, her future life would be much better. Two million dollars might sound like a lot, but it wouldn't last long.

Grace replied, "Okay, I agree. Transfer the money now."

With that, she hung up the call.

Kirk kept his word and immediately transferred five hundred thousand dollars. Grace received the money and was about to cancel the scheduled email when there was a knock on the door. She was startled, almost dropping her phone.

The knocking continued, but Grace didn't dare to speak because she didn't know who was outside.

After a while, a middle-aged man's voice came from outside, "Is anyone there? I'll leave the delivery at the door."

With that, there was no more sound outside.

Grace had indeed ordered takeout earlier. She opened the delivery app, and it showed that the delivery person was just a few feet away.

She breathed a sigh of relief but still didn't dare to open the door immediately. She walked to the window and peeked outside, seeing a man in a delivery uniform leaving the building and riding away on a motorcycle.

It seemed to be a delivery person, and she was probably overthinking it. Victor couldn't have found her so quickly.

She slowly walked to the door and looked through the peephole. The hallway was empty, and it seemed safe.

Gathering her courage, she opened the door, and there was indeed a delivery on the ground. Grace bent down to pick up the delivery, but suddenly, the door next to her opened. Before she could react, she was yanked into the neighboring apartment, and her phone clattered to the ground.

Soon, something cold was pressed against her forehead.

Grace turned pale with fear, trembling all over. "Who... who are you? Don't kill me. I have money... I can give you five hundred thousand dollars."

The man in front of her had a very ordinary face. Hearing her words, the man smiled cruelly. "You don't need to know who I am. Just know that I'm here to kill you."

Grace screamed, "No."

Before she could say anything else, she was knocked out.

An hour later, the man, now wearing a mask, dragged a heavy suitcase out of the apartment. As he left, he picked up the phone that had fallen at the door.

Three days later, Victor's men found the place Grace had rented. However, apart from a suitcase of clothes and Grace's ID, they found no trace of her.

Victor's secretary said, "Mr. Edwards, we didn't find Mrs. Edwards, and she didn't take her ID, so it doesn't look like she ran away."

Victor's expression was cold, "Keep looking. I want to see her alive or dead!"

Victor's secretary replied, "Yes, Mr. Edwards."

After the secretary left, Victor's face turned grim. 'Grace, you'd better hope I don't find you!'

Abroad, in a suburban villa.

Jesse, dressed in a white suit, sat in the garden leisurely drinking coffee. Behind him stood a man with black-rimmed glasses, reporting with his head down. "Mr. Scott, Grace has been dealt with, and the previous identification report is also out."

He handed the identification report to Jesse who put down his coffee cup, took the report, and opened it.

Seeing the answer he wanted, Jesse smiled. "Very good, we can start our plan."

The man asked, "Should I book the tickets now?"

Jesse raised an eyebrow slightly, "No rush. To bring Sharon over, we need to deal with the man by her side first."

Seb's Silvercrest Group was doing very well in the United States of Atlantis. If he acted rashly now, it would cause a lot of trouble.

He needed to bankrupt Silvercrest Group first, so Seb wouldn't have the power to stop him from taking Sharon.

Jesse continued, "Contact Daniel. We've given him a lot of resources over the years. It's time for him to repay us."

The man replied, "Yes, Mr. Scott."

After the secretary left, Jesse picked up his coffee cup and took another sip, his smile deepening.

At the Thomas Villa.

Daniel's face turned grim when he received the message from Stellaria. He had only agreed to help Jesse get something like Sharon's hair for DNA testing, but he hadn't agreed to help Jesse deal with Silvercrest Group.

Now, he just wanted to win Sophie back and had no interest in Jesse's plans. He called Jesse's secretary, "The Thomas Group doesn't have the ability to deal with Silvercrest Group. I won't throw myself into the fire."

The person on the other end chuckled, "Mr. Thomas, the Thomas Group doesn't seem to have the ability to go against MK Group either, right? Don't forget, everything you have now was given to you by Mr. Scott. What Mr. Scott can give, he can also take away at any time. What you can do is be the knife in Mr. Scott's hand. When he no longer needs you, then you can leave. I've said all I need to say. I hope you know what's best for you."
